I think skins are becoming more popular with the magic keyboard because it's such a premium product with such a dull and dreary cover on the top and the bottom. The material doesn't really age well and shows grease and such very easily. I'm not really used to that with Apple products, so that's why I'm personally getting a skin to cover mine. I did that with the Smart Keyboard folio and it looked way better.

Im new to the skins thing so it hadn't even occurred to me to get one for the MK itself. I just wanted one for my iPad pro. The back in particular and a clear one at that.

After not liking the SopiGuard skins at first I found one I like, so decided to give it a try since it's actually designed for the iPad Magic Keyboard. Was $23 total after shipping, so not the end of the world if it does not work out.

Ordered the Special Textured Dark Wood Skin.

tbh ive never heard of this company

I might have a red 12.9” keyboard folio skin for sale in the UK soon if anybody is looking for one - bought for Decalgirl but might not be needed now.

Searching the forums, I found this post from 2016 where someone bought a skin of theirs from Amazon. So they’ve definitely been around for awhile. I also had never heard of them, but for $25 I’m willing to take a chance. Especially since their skin covers the front, back, and above/below the keyboard.
I commend you on searching the forums. With all the repeated posts we see asking a tiny variation of the same question asked 10X already, I had begun to worry it was a lost art. 🙏

No palm rest on the ASK - I used the area above the keyboard that would normally be skinned and I cut to length to surround the trackpad on the MK.

Your installation looks great! Especially like what you did with the palm rest area. May I ask where you purchased the skin and what the color/design is? Also, are you saying that a single ASK skin has enough “extra material” left over to create the palm rest area shown on your skinned MK? If so, I’m going to order and “attempt” to do the same thing you did. And one last Q, have you had any issue with the skinned area of the palm rests along the trackpad showing extra wear or lifting up from use? Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a good brand that offers a CLEAR rear skin for the 2020 iPad Pro? I have never used a skin before and would probably try dbrand since I have heard that name so many times, but they don't seem to offer a clear back skin. A few of the other brands I have heard of, like Bestskinsever, don't have skins for the 2020 iPP's yet. What else is out there from preferably established brands?

check out skinomi, they sell full skin including sides. however they only have the gloss ones on their web site, matte versions can be found on eBay. I prefer gloss as it gives a very grippy texture. I previously used skinomi on my old iPads, and were my favourite along with bestskinsever. Mine should be here in a week and will provide an update

Thank you. I have never used a skin before and never needed one, but since the iPad pulls off the MK so easily, I thought a skin might be a good idea so the iPad isn't completely unprotected. If Gloss is more grippy, I think I'd like that.

I purchased my skin for the ASK FOLIO from slickwraps. The skin is called charred robot. The skin does not have enough coverage to cover the palm rests. I chose to use the coverage that would normally be used for above the keys on the AMK and instead, cut it to size for the palm rests. I have had no issues with the palm rest. Once I apply the skin, I use a hair dryer to heat the edges and then run a micro fiber cloth back and forth to really seal the edges. This way they don’t snag on clothes or have a harsh edge.
Slickwraps takes forever to ship. And to be honest, I am ordering the proper skin from Sopiguard - https://sopiguard.com/collections/tablets. They have the same skin called charred dragon.
Good luck with your install and post some pics when you can :)

You just convinced me to order one from sopiguard, Raist3001. I had ordered an ASK wrap from slickwraps, and I have heard nothing in the 2 weeks since I’ve ordered. If Sopiguard can come through quicker and be more responsive than slickwraps, they get my business, and slickwraps gets a return.

I highly recommend the gloss finish, it’s very grippy. I don’t like putting on bulky cases so I’ve always just used skins with a smart folio. I’ll post some pics when I get it

When someone gets their SopiGuard cover for the iPad Pro magic keyboard, please post pictures. I am considering it. I want something that matches the color of the case. Just not sure if I should get grey or black.

Edit: I bit the bullet and ordered the brush black. I will post pictures when I get it.

I received the SopiGuard skin for my iPad Pro Magic Keyboard today (Special Textured / Black Wood). Fit it good....but they do seem thinner than the ones I had from iStyles for my ASK.

Looks great! Do you have any photos showing the interior skin? After you placed your order, how long did it take for them to ship it out to you? And what method did they use for shipping? Thanks!!!

Thanks! I did not install the interior skin yet....not sure I like it there especially on the trackpad....will evaluate later. Placed the order on Monday AM, shipped on Monday PM, and arrived today to FL with standard shipping.

Looks pretty good. I don't really care about the thickness. I did brushed black finish hoping it will compliment the device well. I am definitely not installing it on the inside, it looks tacky. I just need these to protect the outside and get rid of finger prints.

Did you clean the exterior of the case before installing? Should I wipe it with water first?

I also emailed customer service and they said they ship next business day!

Thanks for the helpful info! When you mentioned the skin seemed thinner than others, I searched the web and came across the discussion linked below. Based off the comments, it seems like the Sopiguard skins are thinner and perhaps a little less durable than some from other vendors. Debating on if I should order the Sopiguard or wait for decalgirl to release their version. I also have an unused ASK skin that I could install but not sure if it would drive me nuts being that it won’t be an exact fit on the MK. Decisions decisions...

Are the Matte skins from dbrand grippy? I was going to get one for my iPad pro. I just want a basic color, nothing fancy. Someone above mentioned that Gloss was better for grip, but I don't see any gloss ones for the 2020 ipad pro. At least not in basic colors.

SopiGuard sent everything needed to clean exterior prior to applying...I was impressed!

It does seem since these skins from SopiGuard are so thin that small bubbles are tough to completely remove. I’ve had a couple of bubbles come up after the install....thinking I had them all “ironed” out.

Pulled the trigger with Sopiguard and am pretty satisfied with the result! Got the Forged Carbon and it looks and feels pretty slick!

Nice! I have the same one coming tomorrow! How’d the install go? Any tips or things to avoid?
Was surprisingly easy even with it being a little thinner than dbrand. Found it easy to hold both edges of the skin and line the top of the skin with wherever it’s supposed to go and sticking it down from there. If you do mess up, it is pretty easy to remove as long as you haven’t pressed down on it yet. A hair dryer was also useful for making sure it sticks down and removing bubbles (like around the Apple logo).

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one checking into Sopiguard. Before I got my dBrand skin for the back of the iPad, I had ordered a set of Slickwraps that I was thinking about returning, but then decided I would use the side pieces in conjunction with the dBrand that's already on there.

Problem is that my Slickwraps order has been sitting there for weeks with no movement and no response from Slickwraps customer service after 4 tries. So last night I ordered a set of Sopiguard stuff JUST to use the side pieces. I'll keep the back piece for if/when I get sick of the look of the dBrand.

I really wish Apple cared about side protection on these things. I never actually managed to do any damage to the sides of my 2018 model, but for some reason I'm not feeling like risking it with this 2020 model.
