Can someone explain to me the benefits of a variable aperture? It sounds like it would benefit pro type users who dial in settings and know what they’re doing
when shooting. But for the everyday point and shoot how’s this going to improve photos?
Variable aperture allows you to let in more light and a picture with more detail and less blurry background. For example at an aperture of 1.4 you’re getting a lot of light to the sensor and can shoot in low light conditions however the focus will be sharp in one area and blurry throughout. With a 4.5 aperture there will be less light hitting the sensor but the focus will be wider and sharper. The eyes of 5 people will be in focus as opposed to maybe one or two with a 1.2 aperture. The down side is you will really have to hold the camera/phone very steady for a longer period to get a sharp shot as there is less light hitting sensor. In bright daylight not a problem but indoors and dimly lit areas the phone will need to be hand held longer and that may contribute to blurry shaky shots, unless using a tripod etc. a 1.2 aperture is wonderful for portraits and a blurry (bokeh background), blurry doesn’t mean shaky or bad, just isolating the subject.

It doesn't sound as if you have reviewed the latest articles and tests about the entire 17 series' resistance to bending. The bending issue is nil. Even the clown show about destroying mobile devices couldn't figure out how to bend any of the 17 series, even the Air.
Unfortunately, it appears the iPhone 17 Pro models are very susceptible to scuffing. I'd put a case on the phone almost immediately after buying one.

Making the telephoto sensor 200 mpx will be a practical & sensible move forward. Almost all Chinese flagships have improved results with that way.

they can make 200mp - pixels will be tiny - won't help. they would have to increase the lens and sensor size - which requires space - that is a premium for the phone.

They can reduce battery size a little for extra space. It won't make a noticeable difference for most users, personally I'd trade 10% less battery capacity and wireless charging as well for having 200 mpx telephoto.
