Wasn't the 16 Pro also rumored to not have a dynamic island but instead a punch hole?
He revised that roadmap in April of this year

Is this where I insert my edgy comment how that sounds like a boring update and I wont bother upgrading from my iPhone 4 until the iPhone 17 now?

I hope that both UW and telephoto cameras get 48MP quad bayer sensors at the same time, and ideally a sensor size increase to 1/1.56" or so, or at least 1/2". There's a current phone which has all of that - Oppo Find X6 Pro, and the cameras and lenses used in it are excellent.

But knowing Apple, each MP bump and sensor size bump will be reserved for 1 update respectively, so camera improvement would take 4 iPhone generations. And in reality there's no guarantee that all such improvements will even happen back-to-back. There's a solid chance for cameras quality to stagnate even longer.

I'm also looking forward for under-display face ID, but not selfie camera. I'm still very sceptical about the latter being able to achieve decent quality within 1-2 years from now. So the rumoured roadmaps make a lot of sense.

Ross Young revised his chart later on:

iPhone 15 lineup is third from the left. iPhone 16 lineup is fourth from the left. No changes next year.

Yeah, and until they get the technical challenges under control, it will remain in limbo and be delayed further year by year. How many years do we already have rumors for under-screen everything?

The fact that Apple is making the iPhones taller next year can also be taken as an indication that a pill-less iPhone is still far off.

I can 100% guarantee you that the next iPhone will not have WiFi 7. It has to be a joke for that to even be included in the list. This is Tim Cook's Apple. Delaying any cutting edge technology is an easy opportunity for them to include it in a future version of the phone. Gotta keep that hype train rolling. Apple will 'invent' WiFi 7 for the iPhone 17 or maybe even the 18.

I hate the years they cripple the smaller pro. Like the 12P.
Wonderfully, next year they will be able to fit the 5x lens in the 16Pro body. Like they did with the larger sensor + sensor stab. in the 13 Pro/14 Pro series.

So I will skip this year. I just refuse the Max.

Just upgraded from 14 Pro to 15 Pro and this is the first time after about 6 years of annual upgrades it doesn’t feel like I’ve got a new phone beyond the action button which I’m keeping as silent/ring
Did you see the keynote? What else did you expect?

Next year it will probably be the same situation. The 16 Pro gets the 5x tetraprism lens while the 16 Pro Max gets 7-10x.

iPhone X to iphone15 pro max and it’s underwhelming.

I just down £1599 for a better camera & iOS 17.

If apple vision turns out to be good then spatial video may prove to be the defining factor otherwise meh

It does everything the last one did, just a little better.

While likely, there are diminishing returns/benefits to telephoto lenses on phones with higher fixed zoom. I've found 3x to be a good compromise between optical zoom length and the practical use of said lens. I have a 13 Pro that I take with me whenever I go somewhere like the zoo and plan to take a lot of pictures or video. That 3x is just about perfect for anything at a reasonable distance that I can't get closer to: animals in exhibits, trainers on a small stage, etc.

5x will be nice for some limited use cases, like a larger concert venue or nosebleed stadium seats, but because the standard "wide" lens will be 48mpx, but fixed zoom, everything from 1-4.9x will be a digital zoom/crop of that lens' image. Whereas, with a 3x telephoto option, only 1-2.9x will be a cropped digital zoom. I don't think I'd want or use 5x optical zoom in many cases. Steadying the phone with 5x or greater zoom to capture good photos and videos will also prove to be more challenging. One small move of the hand and you'll lose your target object by a mile on the screen. 10x or more will be even worse.

I was having a thought experiment where in I kept to my 2017 iPhone 8 Plus until 2023 iPhone 15 Pro Max because of COVID-19.

You noticed nothing compeling other than the camera & moving to iOS 17.
