Personal directed EMP weapons. Problem solved :)

That tech is nothing new and outdated, attracts no interest and nothing much of any use. So it tries to drum it up by pretending it can tie itself with something big like apple.

All kidding aside, any person valueing their privacy should be very concerned about 'Big Brother Google'.

If information = power, this company's power will grow exponentially in the coming years, and the implications of that should set off alarm bells for people valueing even only the slightest modicum of privacy in their future.

And the other special thing about skybox is, it's going be used by Google. Stop right there. Okay, now, read it carefully. G-O-O-G-L-E. It's main and only interest is harvesting human information to be feed into their Giant Advertisement Machine. Do you think they will care if someone used it for criminal purposes? No. It's not their own interest to protect your information.

Apple does the same. And you're sending them your text messages, calls, photos and documents... Your fanboyism is very strong!

I thought, NSA can do this for years.

You mean the NRO (National Reconnaissance Office.) This is the department that does all of the spy satellite operations sending the imaging to the whomever requests it. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a public manifest copy of an existing classified system.

Mac Mini is being redesigned just like Mac Pro. Stay tuned, it would be worth the wait ;)

I'm sure of that. Looking forward to it.

That would be good especially if it came in a range of colours. Priced right that could finally lift off sales of the Mac Mini as people switch from those big ugly black PC boxes. My only concern is that they'll under power it again thereby turning off gamers who make up the majority of non-business desktop sales these days.

Considering the numerous fines Google has seen with its mapping services, I feel like this is just asking for another court case.

Google didn't had any fine relating to mapping services, it was fined for collecting data from wifi, but this is unrelated to the mapping service

Yes our only worry is now how google will know of the next iphone launch and not predicting your every move and daily routines, eg. pass advertisements on your phone while you walk beside a mall. Google can sell this kindda data at insane prices and corporates would love it - I am not sure how you will feel about it though (Privacy?).

Anyone who read past "real time video" "three times a day", needs to get a life. PR BS rip and read comes to MacRumors. Don't encourage it by taking it seriously.

If it had been critiqued for the BS that it is… That's a different matter. But sadly, no.

Wow. Holy crap. Although, the burglars will also be on live feed. so they'd have to be masked, take the plates off their transportation...

At this rate of privacy rape, we're all gonna have to wear masks and remove our plates pretty soon.

Well, you're not terribly far off if you microwave them.

Hello! Nuclear radiation is totally different than microwave radiation. Radiation is the process in which energy is emitted as particles or waves, so it covers a very wide spectrum. Like the radiation I get sun bathing on the beach is very different than the radiation I get from the X-Ray machine in my dentist's office, or my old luminous watch dial, or a Beat headset.

Perhaps it is being combined with the Apple TV.

I trust my government more than I trust an entrepreneur who's looking to capitalize on it.

Really? WOW!

Apple suppliers need to paint trucks on their driveways and loading docks, or make blow-up truck models to move around daily.

wouldn't it be cheaper to just give one of the huge number of workers at Foxconn a $20 bill and have them tell you when it is going to be shipped and even give you some parts?

Eh they live most days inside the compound and are constantly being checked before leaving.

Even with the full constellation of planned satellites, it's still only going to pass over our position just three times a day. And it can't pick out people.

So no, it can't do real time watching of our movements to serve ads. That's more like what Apple wants to do with its iBeacons.

Its main purpose is business intelligence. This all got started when a Skybox developer noticed that he could predict Walmart sales by counting cars in Walmart parking lots.

As the WSJ noted:

"Skybox can determine how much oil is being pumped out of the ground in Saudi Arabia by imaging oil-storage tanks from above. The company can peg the likely price of grain months in advance by measuring the health of every square yard of cropland on Earth. "

--
However, yes, there are Big Brother aspects when the government gets involved:

"One city has used Skybox's data to determine who built illegal backyard pools and might also use it to identify water-restriction violators during a drought."

Of course, that could be done using airplanes or drones as well.

Mine or yours? I am not aware Apple main business is selling advertisements by using my data.

True, Apple's main business is not ads. Which is why it seems a bit worse when they sell us to advertisers.

Google provides free online services in exchange for using their information about us to profit by selling anonymous advertising slots. That's their main business. Pretty straight forward. Something for something.

Apple sells us hardware at high profit margins and makes billions. But that's not enough for them. They also use their information about us to profit by selling anonymous advertising slots, without providing anything directly to us in return.

Neither one, of course, really knows that much about us. If they did, they'd stop trying to sell me something that I already bought.

Hopefully, if Google can see a new car in my driveway, they can stop showing me car ads

This reminds me of special forces satellite and tracking the enemy position.

Google is useful after all.
