Why are Americans so cheap?

Here, I'll quote myself to answer this question again:
Speaking for myself, 3 bucks isn't a big deal. However, is this product worth my $3? Comparing it to other apps that are priced the same or lower, it isn't.

I bought Atomic Browser for 99¢, and it has way more features than this browser. Sure Atomic lacks Flash, but as I stated before, I don't miss flash on my iDevices. If Atomic Browser was $3, I still would have bought it.

To me, an app like this is more worthy of a 99¢ price than a $2.99 price. I definitely don't think it should be free (but I wouldn't complain if it was....).

Again, I don't have a problem spending $3, but from the perspective of the App Store, this isn't worth $3 to me.

Although I'm not American.

Plus, I've bought so many crappy 99¢ apps, that I've decided to pick and choose more carefully what apps I'm going to spend my money on. Just because something is $1 or 3, doesn't mean I should just automatically give those devs my money.....

LOL at people that say they don't miss Flash on their iPads. The lack of it on the iPAd is why that thing is a useless gimped Internet device. Good for these third parties doing what Apple is too stupidly assbackwards to do on their own.

And yet, you're still here. Strange.

Isn't there a Flash devices forum you could hang out at, where you'd be appreciated? :p

Nephilim is one of our resident trolls. He has nothing better to do with his life than to hang out on an Apple-based forum to b1tch about Apple after saying he's never using an "iDevice" again. Kind of a pathetic existence, ain't it?

Proud Mac OSX user as well as proud iOS boycotter! :)

Your pathetic mind will never be able to figure that one out so just relax and enjoy the ride ;)

I haven't missed those Flash advertisements enough to pay for the privilege of seeing them on web pages again. :p

P.S. Is the top part of this second page (on this MacRumors thread) messed up for other people?

Those of us with smarts know that an adblocker will handle those ads nicely and then you can still watch whatever Flash content you want. It's YOUR CHOICE. With Apple on the Touch and iPad they make the choice for you, and its a crappy choice. Come on, Apple Fanboys, surely you can't be against choice just because Steve told you something is bad. Learn to think for yourselves.

Looks like ill be getting it. Damn.

I just went thru a bunch of old sites I stopped going to because I dont really browse on my PC anymore, mostly iOS. Looks like there are more than a few sites that I can use flash. I am asking a buddy with Skyfire on his Droid a few questions, and yes it will work with a regular flash site that does not have video.

He also says its very buggy and he does not use it ever. Ill probably just borrow his Galaxy and mess with it a bit. If ESPN.com and NBA.com work as they do on desktop, thats worth it alone.

ugh, more flash nonsense, why are all these people trying to get clever with it...when the content providers should spend the time to get their content upto the newest evolving standards.
Not to jump on ol' steves nuts but flash really wouldnt be that great on a portable device, its not touch interactive its mouse interactive. for all the flash games out there, there is an equivalent and better one in the app store probably.
flash websites themselves to me suck since you cant go forward or backwards if the entire damn thing is in flash.

You must be kidding....

Seriously, people -- how does this work?

I load a site. (bandwidth)
Skyfire sends the flv or link to servers. (bandwidth)
Servers send me HTML5-compatible video. (bandwidth)

 Not likely, since standing in Penn Station, I can have full bars + 3G and can't send a two-word pure-text SMS because there's just no ... [drumroll] ... bandwidth.

My $3 is better used elsewhere.

Fanboyofnothong is quite an ironic name for you.

Let's put it this way. I'm one of the few people who actually would like having flash on my iOS, only for videos (which this browser will help). However, that's just one SMALL gripe for me, against everything that the iPhone does so incredibly well. Just because it doesn't do ONE thing I want, doesn't mean everything else it does is immediately negated. Only an immature fanboy like you would think in absolute terms like that. It's just one small tradeoff for me, and considering all of it's overwhelmingly positive qualities overshadow that one minor tradeoff, it's something I'm willing to deal with. Nothing in the world comes picture perfect with absolutely no tradeoffs or compromises. And I don't even blame Apple, I blame the web designers who are too lazy to code their content for mobile friendly users.

It's not about choice. Some people legitimately couldn't care less about flash, therefore the option of having it means absolutely nothing to them. You and you Google fanboys are getting incredibly obnoxious with this "choice" propaganda.

This seems somehow untenable.

With ongoing bandwidth/server charges for usage. A one time $2.99 fee is not going to support it if people actually use it.

If this works with Hulu day 1 purchase for me! It's the only flash I would see myself using.

It won't and can't. It would have to break the DCMA to do so, since it would require bypassing RTMPE and SWF Verification. Hulu has a long history of blocking Skyfire on other browsers, as do most other professional content Flash video sites.

It also won't allow you to misreport the user agent, as that's not allowed under the app store T&Cs.

2.19 Apps that provide incorrect diagnostic or other inaccurate device data will be rejected

That simple.

Yup, I have mid-long term doubts about that too...

A bit of duality going on in this thread. People are saying they don't need flash but then complaining that the app is not priced correctly? If you don't want or need flash to watch video - why would you care whether the app is viable much less how much it costs. Unless you WOULD be interested. But then that would by hypocritical, no? LOL

I see this as only a positive for people that do want to access videos that are delivered via a flash player or via .flv's. If you don't have a need - then it's of no consequence either way. People saying it's a bad idea or complaining or whatever or silly.

I am really excited about this. I installed the skyfire app on my Android 2.1 phone and it works great. I've watched a few episodes on southparkstudios.com and a few tv shows from network sites and they all streamed perfectly...not laggy or anything.

On my iPad I have cloud browse downloaded and tried doing the same thing but half the sites give an error about a proxy or something and can't view the video...the video I was able to watch the picture and sound did not sync.

I think if it works as well as the android version and as long as a bunch of sites (hulu, fox, cbs, nbc) don't go blocking their servers it will definitely be worth the $3.

And also I don't think apple is going to pull this app either. I have been following the progress on it since June and apparently they have been working very closely with some apple employees to make sure all requirements are met.

Hulu has a long history of blocking sky fire, but recently i think in May they stopped blocking it as I remember it worked for Android around that time. That may have changed since then, but I haven't heard anything.

And Speaking of Flash...

It boggles my mind that MacRumors is still using Flash right on its website! It's doubly ironic when you guys are writing about Flash vs. HTML5 and millions of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users can't see the videos, the pictures, and even some of the ads, because they're Flash!

Hey guys, there's this thing you know, called HTML5....Yeah?

Hey guys, there's this thing you know, called HTML5....Yeah?

There's also this thing called IE, oh and firefox, which combined make up over 90% of the browser market. Oh, and they both use this thing called flash, and don't have support for that thing called HTML5. Oh, and not to mention that there's these things called tools, which flash has very many capable tools for, and HTML5 doesn't currently have.

Jesus...

I don't *badly* miss flash on my iDevices, but $3 is worth it for me for the occasional video site I want to view on my iPhone or iPad. I'd imagine the need will decline over time, but a one time $3 to save me a few inconveniences a week isn't so bad.

Are you for real, or just trolling?

Having used iPad for over a month, I can assure you that lack of flash is pretty much a non-issue. On the other hand, enabling Flash on my Android 2.2 phone results in a crappy browsing experience, as sites attempt to load all the flash based ads. It just slows the entire browser down, and makes browsing jittery. I ended up turning off Flash on my EVO anyway.

I disagree with Jobs on a lot of things, but Flash free web isn't one of them.

Jesus what a post! :D

1. I am not trolling and am dead serious - web without Flash is crippled pile of excrement and there is no way in the world that I would be supporting OS or Devices which intentionally cripple my web experience!

2. On Android you can set the Flash player to work in exactly the same way as does ClickToFlash work on Mac. Meaning - you can set it up and CHOOSE which Flash content you wish to view. So yes, you can get rid of that ads we all hate and still enjoy Flash content you wish to view...

3. What do you mean by "I can assure you that lack of Flash is not an issue" when if I look through 100s of my bookmarks vast majority are using Flash in one way or the other!?!? You don't need to assure me about anything since I know very well what I need in my computing life :)

4. I agree with Jobs on a lot of things but not with crippling my web browsing experience...
