One has to call a mess when one sees it.

The UI is INEXCUSABLY unusably horrid.

I am shocked that this warrants a jump from 2.8 to 5.0!

And they’re dropping PPC support? Just wonderful.

Very disappointed.

Terrible isn't it. However, the old versions still work nicely. I think I'm still using an ancient version of Skype from oldversion.com for PPC - I think it's 1.5, and it absolutely flies on my Pismo.

Didn't realise this was 'new new' when I grabbed it last night to put Skype on my new machine. Bleedin eck, not good! If I could just have that little dial pad stay on my desktop next to my other little windows, that'd be fine... but no it disappears, so I have to deal with the monstrosity that is the main window.

You get the feeling the designer has never used OSX in his life, a lot of us like our small little windows scattered around our desktops and this has absolutely no good way of doing that. Glad I rarely use Skype!

I don't know what happens inside those developers head.

The interface "looks" prettier but productivity falls impressively!

To find a user in your list you have to scroll a lot or type the name in the search bar.

Ew, that UI looks horrid. Maybe if enough users complain, they'll at least give the option to use the older one in the final Skype 5.0. I wouldn't hold my breath though. >_<

I don't mind the unified window, but the UI is clunky:

-- wasted space on the right for random Recents, instead of presenting contacts/online contacts, which would be much more useful.

-- the conversation panel is too spaced out, actually harder to read than the old one.

-- why not larger contact icons?

-- the beta doesn't work for requesting access from new contacts.

The one thing that really pisses me off (I've reverted back to 2.8), is that if you go into an audio or video chat with someone, if you want to send them a web link or something that you'd need to type to them, you can't, but you can to anyone else, as long as you're not in a call with them, it's completely backwards, who the hell oversaw this??? It's terrible. I've made my complaints to them, just gotta hope they actually listen and don't just carry on thinking they're doing everything right.

You can talk to them in the text box... just hover over the window and drag the black part up and it will reveal the box in which you send them messages.

I would say I feel stupid for not noticing that, but even still, that's a pretty crappy implementation, I still prefer having my video/audio window separate from the chat window.

it runs really slow and bleck too. Unless they redo the UI and make it fast I won't be updating when it comes out of beta lol
