My battery performance is nowhere near that bad - though I'm using an iPhone 4.

I doubt it but maybe people having battery "drain" (like me) have a 3GS (like me) ??

Anyone with an iPhone4 having battery issues ?

I had it running on 3G in the back ground and seem to suck battery more than usual...

ive experienced the same battery drain on my 3gs. removed all other apps in my last-used queue, fired up skype...and battery is draining much faster than before the skype update.

Actually, I had a spell today where the iPhone was getting warm, and the battery was draining really fast. Rebooted the phone and it was fine again. Something's obviously hanging somewhere, but intermittently. That's the first time it's happened for me.

This is not a flaw. It works as designed :)
You realize, that while on WiFi you have a completely different IP adress than via 3G? As soon as the phone loses wifi connectivity it gets a whole new ip adress from your cellular provider and all connections get aborted.
The only reason you haven't noticed any side effects of this behaviour is that you haven't been streaming any audio (or doing VOIP) while changing networks. All other data is packet based session data and nobody cares which ip adress it came from.

wait so if you leave it in 3g all the time you won't have a problem but if you go from wifi to 3g to a dif wifi you won't recieve calls?

Doesnt work for me. Sure if I have my iPhone plugged in then I maintain a constant wifi connection and skype will stay connected and notify me quickly. Soon as I unplug my iPhone and lock it the wifi goes off and it switches to Edge since I cant get 3g inside my house and then Skype will disconnect and anyone who tries to call me gets told Im offline and redirected to Skype voicemail and I get no notifications.

Worthless

I've noticed the same thing. This is really annoying cause i always have to remember to relaunch Skype whenever i leave the house...

Shouldn't proper implemented push work regardless of the IP changing or do i have to stop using Wifi at home?

I'm not getting the issue of disconnection when moving between WiFi and 3G, which is strange as I seem to be the only one! If I connect to the WiFi, then turn WiFi off, the app just stays connected. Didn't make a big thing about being able to do that when streaming video etc? Wonder if they can do it with a SIP connection too? And if so, why am I the only one it works for?! :D

apart from the obvious battery draining, and the fact this update isnt working fully with ios4 yet thanks to it reloading everytime you use another app, the problem i have just found is that whenever skype is in the background, my volume seems muted or as if headphones are plugged in...so im missing calls and messages as there is no sound...it comes back fine after i quit the app...

get your finger out skype but i wont hold my breath

i love this new skype but i noticed that my reception drops to searching a lot and my phone gets really hot!

I found the same thing, Never had the problem of having the call go from green to amber then red. my friend used Wifi at the apple store and the same thing occured.
For now its unusable on our iphone 4's.

Just put Skype on my iPhone 4 today and have noticed a bit of battery drain. Going to test it for the day, but right now I've got screen brightness at 45%, no push or fetch, no location services, and I've used the phone for 1 hour and 8 minutes and I'm at 83%. Normally I'm doing a lot better than this battery wise. A short Skype call drained my battery about 4 percent.
