Maybe Christie liked his buttons with something around them that made them look like ... buttons.

people use Siri?

Siri's implementation may not be where it should be. But given the choice, would you rather flick and click through somebody else's concept of how to find your information, like digging through somebody else's desk for your file? Or would you rather simply speak/ask for your info? What's more fast and easy than telling / asking somebody for the things you need?

Office politics and catfights aside, this may hint at what's next for iPhone and an iWatch - less graphic user interfaces, and more hardware controlled "invisible" services.

No, you didn't fix it. You merely expressed your limited understanding of the whole of software design. Usability features are not based on trends or opinions. They are based on provable concepts, and do indeed progress. Sure, certain stylings are merely superficial and cosmetic, but really good design is timeless. Flat is not a really good design and is not timeless.

I just had to respond to this ridiculously stupid comment.

Swiss Graphic Design.
Look it up people and get a grip, design moves in circles.

i guess at the end of the day it depends on what kind of person you are (auditory or visual) like honestly? i much rather flip through things than to speak and raise my voice, my xbox has voice commands which actually work rather great but i never use it as i much prefer to flip through things without having to think. when using voice commands i have to think quickly what i actually want to say thats why using siri for text messages for example never works for me cuz id be constantly pausing and getting funny stuff like "uhm" uhm uhm uhm wait no thats not what i want to say". okay im putting "uh uhm uhm wait no thats not what i want to say" is that correct? also it looks rather stupid to do it in public

would have been interested to see what his original design of iOS7 was before Jon took control because iOS7 is so bland and boring.

Something tells me Jon will be running everything soon under Tim, not sure it is good to give one person so much control, Ive is not Jobs.

There is not a bit of truth in this posting.
Scott was right and Christie knows what he's doing. It's Johnny Five there that obviously doesn't get the needs of actual humans based on the horrific "override" disaster that is iOS7.
Sales would seem to indicate that your opinion here is crap!
Christie designed the original iPhone interface. Which is better? I think it's obvious to most of us that aren't into Crayons and Wireframe models.
IOS 7 by a long shot.
It's #5 that should be departing Apple, IMO. iTunes is worse (organization sucks since redesign; movie icons are still too big with no Cover Flow mode to compensate (preferred movie mode listing, IMO). iOS is worse (so much slower that even one model back in the iPod Touch got left behind and therefore now faces software oblivion for many apps); it's much guadier looking (crayola wireframes and kiddy looking icons) and still can't split multitask on an iPad like Android can; their fingerprint sensor degraded in record time (requiring an update to get it to work a bit longer), etc.
Obviously a democrat here that has never tried to accomplish anything on his own. You need to realize that the finger print integration was an incredible success story accomplished in record time. It isn't an example of a simple sensor but rather an integrated system with support designed right into the SoC that runs the whole phone.
Mavericks is worse except for the multi-monitor thing and OpenGL 4.0 update (still two years plus behind) and even the multi-monitor features could still be improved with dual-docks and better side-dock support.
Mavericks is pretty fantastic all around. Things like multi monitor support are major overhauls to functionality and shouldn't be dismissed as easy. As to new features, operating systems are never really done.
It seems like Apple is just putting out crap and more crap and more of the same. Let's eliminate optical drives and all ports but USB and Thunderbolt, make things even thinner (making the Macbook Air kind of moot at this stage, IMO since the new Macbooks are nearly as thin/small)
Air has been a huge success story for Apple. Using your regressive logic Apple should be incorporating floppy drives in its machines. Technology moves forward my good man, not backwards.
and put on a screwed up operating system that runs slower and *STILL* cannot get my new mail from GMail when I click on the new mail button in 10.9.2 despite TWO updates that promised to have fixed the problem and just don't. (I've got back to using Thunderbird).
You do realize that in some circles using GMail makes you look like a fool.
Apple had better start getting its stuff together or it will find itself on a downward spiral. People don't see it in the quarterly reports yet, but it's coming if they don't start improving things rather than constantly screwing them up (Maps, Gmail, Hard drive sleep, the Safari hack bug, etc.)
So what is the alternative? Seriously nothing comes close to Apples solutions as far as being trouble free.
Then there's the GPU debacle.... Not only did the 8600M GT cause them problems, but now the same type of problem is showing up on the models that came after it for 2009, 2010 and possibly later.
So you blame Apple for the crap NVidia puts out.
We're paying a large premium for Macs over regular PC notebooks. They shouldn't have all these major flaws in them, but they do and it seems like it's increasing year by year. They need better quality control and testing. If they need to hire more people to do it then they should do so. It seems like they've been stretched thin ever since the iPhone first came out. The #1 Corporation in all the world with over 100 BILLION in petty cash should not be trying to save a buck by giving teams double duty still.

I'm a big proponent of quality control but eventually you have to ship. In the case of software this has always been reality, if you expect absolute perfection the software will never ship. Given that find me a laptop anywhere in the Airs price range that gives you equal capability on a quality platform.

You rag on and on about the Air failing to see its value and success. So I have to ask what is causing these distortions in your mind.

I guess some of you have forgotten that Apple is a publicly traded company and therefore owned by stockholders.
They are told what to do to keep the cash rolling in.

Compared to iOS 7's design, yes.

Here's another, just for you. Man, that Christie was such an aesthete. (Love the faux screws, really adds to the usability and it's super fun!)

Good, another article where I can post in the forum thread to express my disgust for iOS7. Unfortunately, the competitions' user interfaces have issues as well. I'm going to assume that Ive is the man behind the flat/ugly design and Christie was the last voice of reason, but I'll cross my fingers and hope it was the opposite and that most of the ugliness of iOS7 was Christie's fault and Ive will now fix it all. I know, I know...wishful thinking.

Steve Jobs Wasn't Kidding

"If I had a spiritual partner at Apple, it’s Jony. Jony and I think up most of the products together and then pull others in and say, “Hey, what do you think about this?” He gets the big picture as well as the most infinitesimal details about each product. And he understands that Apple is a product company. He’s not just a designer. He has more operational power than anyone else at Apple except me. There’s no one who can tell him what to do, or to butt out. That’s the way I set it up.”

this is why Steve Jobs kept the hardware and software teams separated. They don't agree on whats good but Steve knew by being the middle man he could see both sides of the fence and direct them to great things. Now its all stirred together. Time will tell. If it goes tits up apple will have no choice but to separate them again.

This happens in any company where jobs overlap. It's a management failure to create roles where more than one party thinks they are in charge of something.

dangerous having someone who is solely aesthetically-inclined with so much power. Somewhere soon down the road we may end up with beautiful garbage that is hard to use. Balance is key.

Not quite. Apple's slide to unlock patent was based on manipulating an image along a path to unlock the device. There was no prior art based on the actual claims. The patent was (potentially) invalidated in some jurisdictions based on the obviousness when considering (among other things) the slide to unlock behavior of the Neonode N1m.

Technically, I'd say that Apple did invent the feature, it just isn't necessarily worthy of patent protection.
