I have AppleCare+ but I don't want to pay 50 dollars for a new one as the scratch is barely noticeable but I do want a replacement. Is there any method that works at the genius bar to get them to replace it, can i just say i want an exchange? Maybe say I'm having issues with battery life or freezing and they will just replace it? Thoughts?

I read about a woman who saved over $100 per calendar year on saying all the produce she buys are bananas at automated checkouts. Just recently, retailers have begun removing automated checkouts.

Moral of the story: you cheat, we all suffer.

Did you not put a screen protector on it???

You wont getaway with system crash or freezing up because at apple store they have diagnostic program that when plug in your phone, they can tell all the events that going on with the phone since day 1. Good luck.

They're not going to buy it, just saying. It was very hard for me to get an exchange when I had proof that something was wrong with my phone. They'll make you pay the $50, I bet.

sad world we live in

on a diff apple forum.. some dude dropped his iphone 4s
cracked the back glass and made a thread asking if he can return the iphone

then he said "cant i just say i am not happy with the product, return it, and then buy a new one?"

You are ridiculous. You buy a phone with a screen made of cheap glass and then complain about the scratches? Next time buy something with Gorilla Glass (like Samsung Galaxy SII)

Exactly!

Why do people feel the need to derail a thread like this? This isn't an Android vs. iOS thing, so take it somewhere else.

1. Get out of this forum

2. iPhone has aluminisilocate glass aka same type of glass as Corning

I'm just going to say my battery life is bad and my phone is randomly restarting...The scratch isn't even noticeable but I'd rather have a fresh one...Should do the trick

How can a phone come scratched? Even if it did, how would Apple actually believe that a phone came scratched and how would they know? Phones don't come scratched lol especially on the screen

Lol goodluck with that.

You are under the 14 days period. Just say you don't want it anymore and get a refund. Then buy another one at a different store

Why would you encourage someone to be dishonest like that? The more I read the less hope I have for people in general. The 14 day return period is if you made a mistake and decided you don't want what you bought. It's not so you can return something that you've damaged. Why are people so dishonest? Things like this make me think that Apple has been too nice to people for too long, and now they think they can get away with this crap.

I totally agree with you and I understand its not the right thing to do.... But, I just can't live with a phone for two years with a scratch.

I know, I know.... It's wrong

Under the conditions of the $99 AppleCare + you have two replacements. As long as you can hand the Genius an iPhone matching your serial number you can receive a replacement for $49. Working the system would be to deal with the scratch until iPhone 5 comes out, pay the $49 for a replacement and put it on eBay as new.

That's what screen covers are for. That's why you should be careful with your phone. If you can't live with it then take care of it.

But he doesn't want to pay the $49. He wants to lie about having other problems with the phone so that they'll replace it for free. THAT is working the system.

This thread quickly turned from questions regarding AppleCare+ and what it covers to a moral condemnation by the "holier-than-thous" of the MacRumors community. Comments like "despicable," "scumbag," and "terrible person" are nothing but hilarious in this context. Seriously people: the guy (or kid) is telling a white lie to get a replacement that in all likelihood Apple would give to him anyways. What's even more hilarious is that the majority, if not ALL, of those projecting their pristine sense of morality towards the OP have at some point in their life done the same thing- aka taking advantage of the system by stretching the truth. We all do it- that is guaranteed. The difference between me/ the OP and the rest of you is that I have no problem admitting I've done it and I don't feel the need to let everyone know how morally upright I am (pretend to be). Get over yourselves!

I try to avoid ersatz whenever possible.

Derailing the thread here, but who says Corning is the best? Also, who says it isn't Corning? Their website says they don't list all gorilla glass products because of agreements.

My last phone was a galaxy s and it has scratches. Gorilla glass isn't magic.

Ignore this troll, he's the same one that claimed the digits are out of alignment on his battery percentage. Obviously he's just got too much time on his hands & just trying to get a reaction here. Probably an Android fanboi. Whatever, he's on my ignore list now.

+1

To the OP: Unless there is a legit issue with the phone, then you should go in and have it replaced. They will NOT replace the phone for just a scratch. Apple isn't gonna dish out a brand new phone over a scratch, nor would any company go even close to waste money because someone had a small scratch on their phone.

I do understand that it sucks (cause I'd be all 'blah' about it too), but if you want to get a replacement, you're gonna have to go the AppleCare+ route and drop your phone and have the screen break. This way you can pay the $49 to have it replaced.

Also, considering that they're still shipping out tons of iPhones (obviously because of recent launch & high demand), who knows if they'll have one readily available for you. They may have to add you to the order queue, maybe not.

I'd rather you stick it out because it's hardly a big deal (not even close), but if you REALLY feel like you have to (reminder: you don't NEED to) get it replaced, then do so, but you have to go to Apple with a legit reason as to what's wrong with the phone.

--Oh, and just my honest thoughts on this: Don't bother. It ruins it for the rest of us and it makes people wonder how spoiled and ridiculous others can be. :x

ps to everyone: Sure, I'm against it yet I'm giving him advice, but let's face it, the guy's gonna try to get a replacement anyway. He DID make a thread after all.

you do know there is a $50 deductible fees right?

so you scratched it and you want them to replace it? please take some responsibility.

karma is b.... it will bite you back 1000x...

why do I feel that this is not your first time?

Anyone with insight on this hypothetical?

Say you have Applecare+, get a small scratch on the screen with no effect on the actual usage of the phone...And you want to replace it? Will Apple still replace the phone or you have to go throw it against the wall before you bring it in? Would seem kind of stupid, but just curious to what extent the coverage works...Says "2 accidental damages" but for some people who might want to replace a phone with a hairline scratch on the screen is that possible?

i cant stand scammers....they do not want to own up to what they have done...if you were careless with your iphone deal with it...if you are clumsy by nature you should have bought a screen protector like I did...people scamming and looking for handouts make me sick
