Once again, the rush of 'OMGZ MY LID IS SLIGHTLY BENT! THIS IS NOT ACCEPTAMABLEEZZ!!!' Get over it, it doesnt affect the computer in anyway, mines bent, i've dealt with it, yes its a $3K Machine, but i dont mind, its whats inside that counts.

EWWWWW. Dude, if you want a computer that is mish-mashed togeather, please just go and buy a PC.

This is an apple, people! You pay to have a computer that is just as much a work of art as it is an electronic device. That's definately defective.

One question.... Have you tried... bending it back? It may save you a lot of hassle. Then again, if you bend it wrong, it may cause you even more hassle when you try to return it.

I would definately not accept a new MBP in this condition, however.

The number of people who are willing to give apple a free pass on these kinds of issues is surprising.

They spent a lot of time pimping their new manufacturing process and how it would (hopefully) make their laptops less prone to defects, yet problems like this still occur.

I've said it before, but Apple needs to stop making their **** in China.

I have tried to bend it.

Should I call apple?

If they send me a new laptop how do i back up my whole OS X and Vista so that I can just transfer it over?

The quickest way would be to swap the hard drives over. Should be relatively easy now that they are accessible.

Umm i have never seen a $3k PC with such a defect.

Bend it back?? On a $3K laptop, this has to be the worst advice i have seen, your just risking breaking it (it has a glass and last i checked glass does not bend)and then apple will not replace it.

DO NOT try to fix it, take it back and get a replacement. And do make sure you open the box in store and check the lid before leaving. The last thing you want to do is go home and find the replacement has the same problem.

Yup the MBP are premium laptops with a premium price. By not accepting and demanding replacements when it has QA issues (bent lid, lose battery cover etc) not only gets you a replacement but also gives Apple feedback so that they can tighten their manufacturing process later on. So demanding perfection with our purchase is actually a win-win for both buyer and Apple :)

Definitely. Apple's QA has gone down the crapper in recent years and it's ridiculous to accept that when you're paying a premium price.

I wish it was true, I have been talking with he Mac support guys here at work and the worst culprits to date are the previous gen MBP they have issues with 3-4 in 10. And those are no longer Rev A :( (end of gen in fact)

Just whatever u do, do not accept a fault, the only way apple will learn is when they get large numbers being returned. I just hope they do not repackage them and sell them to the next customer in a hope that they will accept an imperfection.

I am going to call apple today and keep you guys updated on the issue. thanks for the advice, now i feel i have a good case against apple.

same with me

This has been an on going problem with Apple and I must say it is rather weird how thy have not managed to sort it out. As amazing as Apple are, and I do think they are fantastic... I purchased a Powerbook G4 3 years ago with exactly the same problem? I just bought a new MBP and the screen wasn't completely flush with the rest of the body when closed, but not that bad. I returned it for other reasons anyway.

I am now very conscious of this defect and was in the Mac store just the other day closing a few MBP lids and seeing if the gap was even!!!

I just got off the phone with apple care and they said since it was a new computer model, the engineers wants to look at the problem. If they can't fix it they will send me a new notebook. I should send it off to them on Monday and it will take 4 to 6 days.

So, you guys are right, we have to keep bugging and nagging apple with problems so that they will tighten up their manufacturing of laptops.

BTW, they told me to back up my data which is only documents, pictures, and music. Is there anyway that I can backup applications, settings, and Vista?

I am a new apple owner and it took me 4 days just to make the computer just how I like it.

If you have an external HD you can use Time Machine to back up EVERYTHING so you can plug it back in when u get it back and restore it exactly how it was! I dont know about vista though.

I personally wouldnt be able to let myself send the laptop back! Its your new toy!!!! Is that the best they can do? did u keep up sh*t?

I just did the time machine, so that keeps programs too? that would be a great help!

yeah i know what you mean, i need a laptop to take notes in class. Do you think they could send me a loaner if i ask.

How about a different view....is the MacBook Pro bent or does the world bend around your MacBook Pro?

On a serious note, it is pretty bad that you will be without your newly bought machine for up to a week. Since the new MacBook's have user replaceable hard drives, I'd ask if they were to replace the laptop, if they couldn't just switch the hard drives.

Yea does all the programs and settings to :) takes a snap shot of the whole machine... pretty sweet :) please correct if wrong!

Apple made a huge point of saying how the new process would give them "a level of fit and finish that is unheard of" so I wouldn't accept it.

Has anyone had this issue on a new MacBook? I think the bigger they make them the more prone they are to this issue.

Looks like there will be lots of these on the refurb store soon enough!

Well, whether it's a level that's unheard of or not, it's certainly, unparalleled ;)

to the OP, don't you dare listen to people like the one above. you paid full price for your laptop so therefore you deserve a 100% machine. misaligned lids aren't 100% no matter how you look at it.

I recently went through something similar and in the end, I won the battle and everything is peachy. don't settle for nothing but the best!
