there could be a simple icon somewhere on the touch pad or a keyboard short cut or dedicated button to switch between coverflow mode and navigation mode. coverflow is being used in everything in leopard by the look of it.
it could also switch into coverflow when you changed applications say from browsing in finder where you just navigate

then when you go into iPhoto it turns to coverflow

im not saying get rid of the usual navigation. if you want the navigation only style you could do it in the settings.

It just seems odd to me that Apple would dedicate that huge of a touchpad space and give it a nice enough display to use as coverflow... I think the new laptops will have maybe a larger trackpad area but nothing to the effect of a second screen, just doesn't look smooth to me.

What I would like to see:

Santa Rosa
Dedicated graphic card option
Silver or Black aluminium case
LED screen option
RAM upgradeable to 4GB

All these features feature or can be added in the DELL XPS M1330 so it’s quite a realistic update. Release it to co-inside with Leopard and it will sell like hot cakes.

A touch screen that has been shown in the mock ups IMO is highly unlikely and unnecessary and would more likely be seen first in the MBP revision in February.

why can't they do something i have wondered why they haven't done - anodise aluminium white - like a fierce burning white colour - it would loo awesome - can one design with black trims and glossy screens - i think they macbook will be go soon me thinks.

i don't see the point... what happened?

vitesses accrues means increased speeds in french...the macbook speeds are all the same, though so im not sure what he's getting at either. but its on all of the mb/mbp pages, so im assuming the french/euro versions never saw an update 3 months ago when the us did?

I mean there has been an update same time that in the US but there is still that message that means the updates are...recent...And the next one is not to be soon.
The message is gone for a long time on the US website but you know Apple in France is always a bit late on everything... Let's just hope!

Matte screen option, please!

True that.

I actually hope they come out with aluminum MacBooks. Don't get me wrong, I love my white iMac, but I don't want a notebook made out of the same delicate plastic, and a Pro is more notebook than I need.

I was never a fan of the white plastic, and I'll jump for an aluminium MacBook as the Pros are out of my reach (Although I would LOVE a glow in the dark keyboard, hope they offer that as a BTO).

Would complement my Alu iMac and iPod Touch quite nicely

Agreed - it looks far too busy to be an Apple design to me. Macs are about minimalism and simplicity, whereas if you sat me down infront of a laptop with a video touchpad I'd think 'what the hell, where do I start?'

It sort of reminds me of one of those Toshibas with about a million lights and buttons all over the place.

has anyone noticed that since they changed the apple website yesterday it no longer says "faster speeds" for macbooks / pros

mean anything???

please come out soon!!!!

What I would like to see (only a small wish):
an eSATA port
In my opinion, it offers many advantages in comparison to USB or Firewire, hopefully Apple won't forget them in their Macbook update list...

I'm sure it would be cost prohibitive, but does anyone think they might get rid of the track pad and have the entire screen be a touch screen? You would have to move your hand farther from the keyboard when moving things, but you would have very nice control. It would also put pressure toward the back, which may cause it to tip, or push the screen back. An interesting concept though.

holiday season?

with Steve Jobs saying they want a more "aggressive approach" for the holiday season, would it make more sense for Apple to release a new macbook or MBP? Anybody know if historically Apple updates their pro line for the holiday season? It's time to update my awesome powerbook g4!! :D:apple:

These rumors are driving me crazy! Now I don't know what to do, I need a new computer badly. But with the possibility of the new macbooks coming, aluminum cases, possibly high res screens. Ive been wanting a MBP for a while now, but if these macbooks come out with near the same resolution as the MBPs at half the price, I'll definitely get one. But then theres the problem of them being a rev. A model. And I'll just have to wait longer. Ahh I dont know what to do, should I just buy a MBP now and not look back? Help!!

here are my two theory's....

Theory 1)Apple will release the new MacBooks, at the same time as Leopard, BECAUSE:
If they come out with leopard, and not the new MacBooks, everybody waiting for Leopard to buy there new MacBooks, will then buy there MB's... Then Apple will announce the new MacBook, this would make MANY people angry, and Apple wont sell as many of the new MacBook's as they could have... Theory 1.2)Although, if they do Leopard then MacBooks, it would be a good way to empty out there stock of old MacBooks, and if they do the seperate, they could get more money, since Apple will most likely drop the price of the new MacBook's, so if they do them separate, many will buy the old MB's for that extra cash, then they release the cheaper one...

Theory 2)Apple will release the new MacBooks BEFORE leopard... So people will swarm the stores, buying there new MacBook, but then, when Leopard is released... everyone will have to pay the extra $130 and upgrade...

If they get money hungry, then they will do either theory 1.2, or theory 2.

No for my personal opinion...
These are the new MacBooks... not the pros...
They will not add a great video card, they will upgrade it(to a better, integrated one), but they wont make it a super nice one...
They will of course make them faster (2.16-2.2ghz for the low end)
Maybe have them use\see more ram?

I really hope they don't make a big touch screen, touch pad... that would just be really ugly... they need\should just leave it like a normal touch pad, but just add the new features...
If there are already, detailed rumors about this... then we must be getting close to the release\announcement of these :D

I am sooo glad I have been waiting to buy my first mac (MacBook)
I have been waiting since May, was waiting for Leopard, but now talk about a whole new MacBook... I really hope these all are released BY mid November...

My mom just brought up a good point...

I told her that the new MacBooks might just be gray and black, and she was like...
She really thinks they need to do color, because she wants a colorful one that stands out (she is waiting for the new macbooks, our whole family is, we are all switching to macs and she wants one because it stands out, and others will be like "omg she has a mac,")
Anyway... she said that apple really needs to do colors that stand out, because when you walk into a coffee shop, or a hot spot, you look around and just see a gray laptops (psshh... PC's) and then you see a white one... it stands out, you look at it, you see the apple, "Oooo that's cool! I want one!"

Colors would be good for publicity for apple, if they just do gray and black... they will blend in, and be 'just another laptop'

We'll just have to play it by ear. It's up in the air right now, unless one of the rumor sites get some inside news... that would be grand.

Does your momma want them to look like the clamshell ibooks? Those stand out!

lol, no... she just wants a white one... or pink lol

Yea, I'm sure my girlfriend would like the pink ones although she's very happy with her 12 inch powerbook. I am actually getting tired of the white design. It's just a color I can't be happy with. I'd love something that looks like the Dell XPS M1330 (I can't believe I admit to liking the design of a something made by Dell).

I'd actually be willing to pay the price of the old 12 inch powerbooks ($1500) for something that had Santa Rosa, 2gb ram, 120gb or 160gb hard drive, Superdrive, 12-13 inch display, any dedicated video card, 4 pounds or under, and of course the good old attractive design Apple is known for (except white:p)
