According to the article they don't go into production until the first half of 2008, so if they are for the new MacBook we won't see it for about a year.

Unless you were just using the picture as a demonstration of a thin screen, in which case I'll just be moving along now....

and they don't come in anything smaller than 15.4"

for a Macbook at 13.3" i think it would look a little odd.

Sorry, there wasn't a tongue in cheek icon I could have used.
I'm going to buy a MacBook soon, but I would prefer a larger screen, say 15" like the MBP. I know it's not everbody's cup of tea.

Leopard is out so here is the dilema, buy a MacBook now (with £6 upgrade to Leopard) or wait to mid November and see if there is any truth to these rumours?

Wasn't totally sure but thought i'd post just in case you where being serious.

I'm waiting until almost the last day in October to buy the Macbook that way if it is released by November then i'll get it, and if it released early November than Apple will hopefully give me the upgrade.

Well 16" and 18.4" would put Apple a bit ahead of all the PC folks on 15.4" and 17" screens... And the 18.4" model would help Apple "compete" (and I use quotes deliberately) with the 19" PCs.

Apple could do a mild MBP refresh now, and then plan the next "major" update with these screens and some fancier Intel chipsets/CPUs over the summer aimed at the Back to School market/Holiday Sales.

Would you mind explaining that one? If you buy at the end of October and then there is a subsequent upgrade, Apple give you a new one? What is the time scale on that, because they are on 3-5 days delivery? I thought if it had been delivered and you'd taken it out of the box, then tough sh^t!

Its not tough ****. My housemate bought an iBook 15 days before the macbooks came out (even though i told him not to) he used the computer everyday. Macbooks came out he took it in and they changed it for him for free.

Cool, although I probably won't recommend that everybody reading this post tries it because it sounds like the goodwill of those nice people at :apple:.

More or less decided now - I'll wait until the start of November, see where these rumors are going and then take the plunge.
White 13" 2.16 GHz :D

Should cheer me up after tonights disaster:(
France dispatched.... twice

I am in the same boat as you. The wait is agonizing one more week in till some solid info. I thought they would charge you a 10% restocking fee. That is the policy on the apple store website.

Waaaaaayy off topic BUT!

What's your point caller? So France won a trophy 9 years ago, and deservedly so they ran a great competition. That was three competitions ago, ancient history. We've beat them twice, home and away in the last year as part of this competition.
Besides, you haven't had the decency to put your location on you profile, so what's the betting you are an Englishman in the huff after the Russian result?

And since you're a newbie, please have a read at the forum rules for posting off-topic posts and trying to incite angry responses. :)

Is that not a picture of Italy? Won the World Cup 2006? I don't think it was anything to do with France. Or Scotland for that matter. But anyways, back on topic....
It does look as though all the evidence points towards an update of the MacBook within the next 2-3 weeks. I am hoping for Santa Rosa (for its ability to address a full 4Gb RAM), and an update to the GPU. Maybe shove a SuperDrive on all models for good measure. Aaaaand we're done.

Ah, yeah, that's Italy there. And looking up at the previous posts, I do believe it was you that originally posted off topic... So don't be hard on the newbies...

Yes it is Italy, very embarrassed, will now go to bed...
I shouldn't have risen to the Troll but I saw the picture and the red mist came down, apologies everybody I'll report it next time.

Back on that other topic... I'm just getting so fed up now! It's an absolute rollercoaster. I've got my heart set on buying on on Leopard launch day in the belief that these rumors come to nothing...
I certainly don't see a shiny aluminium MacBook being released next month at least not until after the Pro but a Santa Rosa processor upgrade would be nice, mainly because it uses less power and runs cooler. And no more combo drive.

I don't think I did post off-topic, one of my posts was on topic and then kinda wandered because I was depressed and needed cheered up with the thoughts of a new MacBook.

I didn't think I was hard on the newbie!

Well even without a redesign, the SR update would definitely be a reason to buy for me. I guess all we can do is wait and see. But if I do keep waiting, and this money slowly starts to become more and more, then it would be difficult not to get one of these fabled new Mac Pro's.
@Fuzzy - No need to get depressed. Scotland have exceeded most people's expectations in this campaign and the victories against France were astounding. And I'm English ;)
