REALLY?!?!?!?!??!?!?
that is not working for me..?

You'll need to jailbreak your iPhone and install the VoIPover3G package (if you haven't already).

Then, FTP into your iPhone and download
/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist
to your Mac.

Open this file in Property List Editor.

Add a String for com.slingmedia.SlingPlayer, like this:

Save the updated VoIPover3G.plist and upload the new version to your iPhone (replace the original).

Reboot the iPhone.

And begin Slinging on the subway/wherever you have 3G!

I really didn't want to but I just might have to jailbreak my iPhone. Thanks AT&T!

Only wifi "at this time"
I wonder what that means.

Orb was like that when it came out and then a couple days later added the edge/3g capability. Maybe sling player will do that as well.

I just would like to see if someone can test it with a Slingbox AV first. Screw Sling's "upgrade program".

crazy how many of you are surprised or disappointed

the 29.99 price has been known for forever , its the same price that slingplayer is on every other phone

and everyone was saying AT&T/Apple would not allow it to be used over 3g/Edge

why such hate for things you already knew

sling is soooo stupid

no sh--t. what is wrong w these guys??? first we wait till hell freezes over for hd support on mac (still waiting...), and now they have the nerve to charge $30 for this app, after we've all purchased their hardware!

really insulting. f this company.

Nice, thanks for the info Patrick.

I can't wait to get an iphone and jailbreak it.

My contract ends this week(sprint), but I am going to wait until June 10-12th to see what comes out of the apple conf. I don't want to get a current iPhone if the new one possibly is around the corner.

But am I am pleased there is a way to do it. I may not use it much over 3g, but the few times I will....it will be sweet!

You do realize that they charge the same for all their mobile platform apps, right? It's on their website:

"SlingPlayer Mobile software purchased separately. Additional data fees may also be required by your cell phone provider. Please check your cellular service plan."
http://www.slingmedia.com/go/spm

and also on the OUTSIDE of EVERY Slingbox retail box.

i realize all this. and still i say: f this company. mainly for how long they've kept us on the string for hd on mac....

I'll agree with you on that one. It is a bit ridiculous that thick client HD is STILL not implemented on Mac (nor is client-side DVR/buffering). Also, thin client (sling.com live TV) is still PC only.

Almost as bad as the Netflix streaming fiasco....

$30 is fair. i'm getting tired of these trinket 99¢ apps that have conditioned everyone into assuming that software development is cheap labor. there are lots of apps that are extremely underpriced on the app store because of it. looking forward to apple's upcoming $10+ app store section.

I personally think $30 is fair, if they offer what they originally promised ie. Sling over 3G. Now since AT&T is being as ass and banned that, I think SlingMedia should lower the price of the iPhone SlingPlayer because it is no longer as functional now compared to its WinMobile and Blackberry counterparts. :(

Also, people who want to use SlingPlayer over 3G are forced to jailbreak their phones. It's just like Sony realizing it could have beaten iTunes if they went DRM free long time ago. Engadget Link: http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/sony-ceo-howard-stringer-if-we-had-gone-with-open-technology-f/

P.S: Or there is another way to watch TV on iPhone. Use Orb, but that will require a PC with TV card.

Not working for me

So I spent the $30 bucks, and now...it's not finding my Slingbox... and I'm on Wi-Fi! Way to get your customers to do your beta testing! This sucks!

I just purchased the app this evening & had a chance to lightly test it out. The "HQ" Video quality is decent. It's aout the same as MLB At Bat's 3G video quality (not nearly as good as their wifi quality). The remote control user interface is awkward. There is a power button to turn your TV provider's receiver on and off (you have to scroll to the right to get to the power function).

I'm glad I purchased it. Since I live in a city 3000 miles from where my sports teams are, I love the Slingbox & the ability to watch TV anywhere I have wifi.

People are pissed for the wrong reasons:

Sling- I don't fault them for having the app rejected. I'm sure they assumed that because blackberry could sling, so could iphone, i agree. AT&T will have to answer that one, soon. The reason i'm pissed at sling is because they are greedy. They tell us last month that the old 'classic' won't work with the iphone. Sling apologists say because of the inner workings of the classic wouldn't allow it to work on the iphone. Now we know better. Sling got greedy, that's why some should be irate with them. I'm a classic owner, so naturally i was not pleased with news, and this is what fuels my hatred toward sling media. They smelled an opportunity to cash in, and karma kicked them in the junk. Shame on you Sling. you got what you deserved (just my opinion)

AT&T- You're network stinks. You claim to 'have more bars in more places', but when tested, you know it will crumble. You've ruined what could be a great app because you're either not prepared, not smart enough to know when to upgrade your network, or too busy promoting your current network and how great it is as opposed to fixing your issues....your 3G network blows, and yet there are other wireless companies that are introducing 4G. I wonder if you can't be sued by sling for not allowing their app on an iphone while on your network, but you can with sling with other handhelds using AT&T.

Apple- people are complaining about your process on accepting apps. I understand that you need to do your 'due diligence', i have no problem with that. My problem is how hard did you look at the AT&T network on your own? did you take their word for it that they are good and sturdy? I thought the might hand of Apple would reign down on this issue, but we've found out that AT&T holds the power in this relationship..

i said a lot of ******** today about this app , but i got it and im using with VoipOver3G and its GREAT ! BTW im using with what they call OLD product
SLINGBOX AV.. working like magic..

Yeah I don't even mind the price, but I am pissed at AT&T and Apple. I saw the demo version of slingplayer for the iPhone at Macworld and it blew my mind. I had my money ready to hand out today to buy a slingbox, but no! I will not pay for the promise of future functionality. Sling is slower than most to update their software. AT&T is a joke. I can't wait for Apple to sign with another company so I can change providers. Apple should have insisted on 3G functionality, they should be the one protecting the consumers. If not, then Sling should of lowered the price (call it introductory) then raise it when they have full functionality. You want me to pay the same price for something that doesn't function the same? AT&T has had plenty of time to upgrade their network and the fact that they allow it on other phones just shows their not being honest.

Apple, AT&T and Sling = Fail

I think this app is worth it even if *for now* it will only be available over wifi. When the dust settles and people complain, ATT will take back their stance over the app and it will be enabled to work on 3G. I already bought the app and from what I can tell so far, it's very well designed. This one app gives me enough motivation to want to jailbreak my phone once again so I can use it over 3G until ATT gets the stick out of their ass. It will happen, it's just a question of how long it will take ATT to change their stance.

@mrrydogg - Sling would have to remove like 10 lines of code in their app to make it work over 3G. Apple is rejecting it because they don't want **** from ATT.
