With so many "tech bloggers" and rumour sites (+ Twitter) fighting to be first, I'm afraid we're in the "publish now, check later" era.
Same thing with the battery capacity reporting. Was the headline on this article changed? Because the comments sure dried up in a hurry.

I guess I'll find out for sure if it works or not on the X running non-beta OS. I ordered one and it should arrive tomorrow (Friday). I'll post back...

It's not something I'd need to use daily, but I'd like it for when I travel as I tend to use my phone more heavily when I'm travelling without my usual arsenal of desktops/laptops.

I have an X and I am going to go give the Mophie a try. Just can't bring myself to spend the $$$ on the apple case when it is not fully supported for the X. Plus with Amazon price match and a reward cert I can get one at Best buy for $75.

You cant make a sound argument to applaud Apple for being transparent in screwing over customers imo. Thats nuts. Hold them more accountable than basking in their mediocrity and outright unacceptable conduct and hostility towards their loyal fans. At least, you should. If you dont, you get what they serve: they ship crap.

Because XS is physically very similar to X, is all the more reason to be baffled why they wouldnt allow it -- especially since it can be done, its just nixed by software limitations

It isnt even a frigging 3rd party non-MFI accessory; its Apple's!

Let's say in 6 months Apple releases a new iOS update which breaks the battery case for iPhone X. Apple never testet it with new iOS updates since it is unsupported.

Customer who had it working for 6 months will be angry, go to the Apple Store and complain. They will complain on Twitter. And you will complain here on why Apple can get anything right.

Some lawyer is going to gather 2-3 of these customers and suddenly Apple has a class action suit against it.

Does anyone know if this case has a metal plate and would work with car magnets?
It supports Qi wireless charging... which I believe was the primary reason that Apple went back to glass rear panels on the iPhone x and the iPhone 8 (and of course on subsequent models). By that merit, I would expect these cases have very minimal metal behind that battery hump.

Are all your posts incomprehensible or is it just me?

I understand generally what youre saying or what I think you're saying, but you have some problems articulating basic thoughts

You're saying, Tim Cook says you must pony up if you want the goods. You complain about it, but then you go out and buy it.

...But at face value, your post is incomprehensible.

And when they all end with , people ironically roll their eyes at your comments and move on
Incomprehensible? Understand? You must be something else!

Mine’s ready for pickup, yay.

By the way, quick question: does just the iPhone charge wireless through the case, or does the case also charge wirelessly?

Haha whatever dude ! Lol
I don't actually know what you're bleating about; his overtly sardonic commentary seemed perfectly clear to me. What exactly was it that you couldn't grok? ;)

Reports seem to indicate that the case itself charges wirelessly, as noted in the previous MacRumors article on this topic:
... The cases charge wirelessly as mentioned above or via Lightning and Apple says faster charging is available using USB-PD compatible chargers. ...

I think the question was more about if it will stick vertically to a vent or dash mounted magnet

Camera gap with an iPhone X for anyone interested.

Working as expected so far. Wireless charging is pretty slow, but that's to be expected. It seems you need to have it perfectly aligned to charge unlike when just using the phone.

Great. Mine comes in tomorrow, was a little worried about the compatibility issues some were reporting.

But there isnt a technical explanation for why it couldnt work, seeing as how it does with 12.1.2 haha

its artificial incompatibility and planned obsolescence, plain as day.

People dont care if the camera cut out is a little bigger and the speaker holes are a bit off. They want more juice.

these smart cases have extra antennas that the iPhone switches over to use because the other antennas are covered by the case. the XS has a different antenna system compared to the X.
also the hole punch outs for the speakers are different because the iphone XS speaker grill is asymmetrical and has less holes compared to the X. imagine hearing funky noises on the X because there weren't enough holes to let out sound. plus a different mic placement, so that might affect phone calls negatively.

and then there's the thermal issue. A12 uses much less power compared to the X's A11. adding a case adds more heat. i've had my iPhone X shutdown after more than 10 minutes of 4k60 recording in the summer sun. if they were to design a smart case for the X, they would probably use a thinner batter or design a way to dissipate heat better. excessive heat isn't good for the internal battery.

so no, it's not artificial incompatibility and planned obsolescence.

Exactly what happened to HomePod earlier this week? Link.

A valuable HomePod behavior which (over the course of a year) came to be regarded as a de-facto feature (and which likely influenced further HomePod purchases) was unceremoniously blocked by Apple.

Just like that.

So no, I wouldn't waste my $129.

Do you have a source for the antenna part? Specifically it being in the case?

I know the design is different than x but

the iPhone 6S Smart Case had a built in passive antenna. i'm not sure if i'm allowed to link the article, but you can search in google: "Apple's new Smart Battery Case displays remaining charge on lock screen, boasts integrated antenna".

since the XS smart battery case is also covering the antennas, there are likely built in antennas in these cases as well.

How is the sound quality of both the external speakers and the mic. Can people hear you ok?
