Snap CEO Evan Spiegel today told CNBC that his company is "happy" to pay Apple's 30 percent cut of in-app purchases because of the benefits that Apple provides with its software and hardware.

We really feel like Snapchat wouldn't exist without the iPhone and without the amazing platform that Apple has created. In that sense, I'm not sure we have a choice about paying the 30% fee, and of course, we're happy to do it in exchange for all the amazing technology that they provide to us in terms of the software but also in terms of their hardware advancements.
Spiegel went on to say that Snapchat is "aligned" with Apple on the App Tracking Transparency changes implemented to protect privacy. "The early investments we made starting almost 10 years ago to protect user privacy on our platform are really paying off," said Spiegel.

Snap is working to help its advertising clients migrate to Apple's SKAdNetwork, which Apple has provided as an alternative to the Advertising Identifier. "So far, that transition has gone smoothly for our business," Spiegel said.

Spiegel's comments come on the last day of the ongoing Epic Games v. Apple trial, a legal battle that is taking place because Epic Games has rebelled against Apple's App Store fees and policies.

Epic Games attempted to skirt Apple's App Store rules with a direct payment option in the popular Fortnite game, leading Apple to pull the app and creating an antitrust dispute that will be decided in court. Epic Games does not want to pay Apple's 30 percent fee, and is lobbying for alternative payment options and alternative ways to install apps on iOS devices.

Apple snap your hands off ?

This person truly does not know what he’s on about. He’s behaving like a sell-out, wide-eyed fanboy amazed at all the advancements.

It is unreal to read what he’s written. IN LIEU OF software and HARDWARE enhancements? So now iOS and iPhone and iPads are selling at subsidised prices thanks to the 30% ? Beyond bewildering. Never used Snapchat, never will.

As a member said: kiss-ass is all this is. A way to get cozy and comfy and hope to get some prime time on the platform, that’s it.

Ending Apple’s monopolistic and anti-competitive practices isn’t going to change that. Companies who are happy to hand over 30% of their profits to the Tom Cook Megayacht fund will still be free to do so.

Let me know what you find on SnapChat that you can buy lol

That’s because they make a lot of money off selling “virtual” real estate and those purchases aren’t through Apple. Their “product”, which many can argue is leaching off other people’s purchases, wouldn’t exist without Apple and their marketing/lobbying powerhouse.

I don't know what Snap is but I will definitely look into them now. If other developers would like to increase sales, it wouldn't be a bad thing to jump on this bandwagon. Us users are taking notes.
expect ratchet ghetto contents made by wannabe social influencers and tons and tons of ads.

seriously snap was cool when it first came out cause of the auto delete posts. but now there are tons of other competitors who does it better.

99% of Snapchat’s revenue comes from paid advertising.

Of course they’re happy. 0% of their business model relies on in-app purchases.
Yeah, till Apple rolls out their own In-App Ads (which will come), take 30% here too, and prohibit third party Ad API's.

"‌Epic Games‌ does not want to pay Apple's 30 percent fee, and is lobbying for alternative payment options and alternative ways to install apps on iOS devices". This is a blatantly false statement, any amount of digging should have uncovered that. Epic can already skip the 30% in app purchase fee by simply selling its vbucks on another medium, including on Safari on the very same device that the user wants to play, or another device that the customer owns. It is railing against an industry standard commission (and I'm all in favor of the market demanding a lowering of rates, but an industry standard pretty much means they all charge it, including Epic itself to other vendors on its store). so let the market decide, Capitalism 101.

Epic is also against anti-steerage contractual terms, but yo, Amazon uses them, all brick and mortar stores use them, not illegal at all, or uncommon.

So at least get the facts straight when reporting on an issue! Truth matters!

Lol if I offered a free app where the majority of my revenue was derived from outside ads, I too would be delighted to pay the 30% commission. Heck, I'd even pay a 100% commission on $0!
LOL if I had an off App Store way of buying vbucks (Epic) or paying for subscriptions (Spotify). I wouldn't think it was a big deal either
