Apple needs to let the disc provided to leopard users preform a clean install! What if your hard drive dies?! We surely won't be expected to buy the full version later!

oh, well. Doesn't affect me! I'll get Snow Leopard free from my University - same place I got my free win xp for boot camp:D

wow that is sweet. i don't think mine is offering anything like that. which is lame because mine college is 75 percent mac

I think the best thing for me to do (still running 10.4 on an Intel mac) is to buy the boxset . . .since I completely skipped Leopard.

Am I correct in reading that the default installation will be Archive and Install? would there be any issues going from 10.4 - SL doing an Archive and install?

I am getting a bit anxious about this upgrading business.

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.

You may rationalize anything. That does not change the fact that reinstalling the OS is a colossal waste of time. Having owned Macs for twenty years, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that MacOS X does not take all that.

If you suspect a system slowdown, then run File System Check (fsck -fy) from the commandline in Single User Mode. Do this and keep at least 10% of your hard drive capacity available as free space and your system should purr like a kitten.

So its a colossal waste of time to wipe and do a clean install whenever a new OS comes out, every 2 yrs or so? Alright then, if you say so.

**** happens. Regardless of well you maintain a computer, garbage files get created, etc. I actually enjoy installing a brand new OS from scratch, and its actually widely recommended, contrary to your beliefs. The point is, this should be an option for Leopard users.

what annoys me as a Tiger user ...

.... is that I just bought iWork 09 a few months ago. Why should I have to pay for it again ?

I should be able to just buy Snow Leopard and change my OS. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the Aussie price is for the upgrade pack.
