Stop nitpicking. The change in how the OS calculates file size cannot account for that much difference.

Don't you guys think it calculated the before and after numbers the same way? Look in console and check out the install log, with the before and after disk size. I seriously doubt SL calculated the before size the old way and the after size the new way. That would be absurd.

Regardless, like Warbrain said, when comparing a few GB the calculations aren't that much different. For me, I either saved 12.2 GB or 11.9 GB, depending on which math you use. No matter how you slice (calculate) it, it is a big difference.

Someone has worked carefully on the wording for the second option in the preview prefences. Previously there was a checkbox which was labelled “respect image and screen DPI for scale”. This was rather confusing I felt and could be interrupted in many ways.

Much better now :)

No kidding. My logs show a savings of 17.9GB. I'm too lazy to do the real math, but let's be ultra generous and say it is a whole gigabyte off. OH NOES!!!! Now I only saved 16.9GB! That's not much at all....

And my wife's machine shows 15GB. I'm shocked as I assumed the most we would see would be a couple (i.e. 1 or 2 GB). I didn't even check at first since I wasn't expecting anything. It wasn't until I saw someone point out the log file that I looked it up out of curiosity.

Actually... TuffLuffJimmy is right.

This. There is no reason to think that Snow Leopard is comparing 2 different capacity measurements.

So um, did pressing the play button (F8) make iTunes open in Leopard?

No and it’s is annoying, because Spotify uses the play and skip buttons.

And guess what happens when I pause Spotify? iTunes bounces into life and starts playing.

Some very minor things I’ve noticed:
[1] Font book now indicates which fonts are duplicates straight away. Previously you had to use a menu command, much like in iTunes for finding duplicate music.

[2] You get a spinner when loading quick look previews. I remember seeing the loading text in Leo, but I don’t recall a spinner.

[3] You can highlight and copy file paths in the Get Info Window (minor annoyance before).

[4] A “Burn to Disc” item has been added to contextual menus in the Finder (may have been mentioned before.

[5] Multi page PDFs appear as a booklet (complete with binding and transparent cover) in the preview sidebar. Clicking on the arrow closes the booklet (and the transparent cover shuts). Clicking the arrow again opens the booklet (and the transparent cover opens). Very cute.

[6] Right clicking in the Finder sidebar gives you a contextual menu with the option to “Open Sidebar Preferences”. Not sure this was in Leopard either.

im pretty sure now after using SL for a few days that the Cover Flow window in Finder does now not diminish ever so slightly over time (much like the Address Book window diminishing like a member mentioned).

this was a HUGE gripe i had in Leopard as over time Cover Flow would get to its smallest size which is useless.

I believe you're right. CoverFlow seems to stay the size you set. Good find! I never use CoverFlow though.... seems like a waste to me.

You know what else uses the play/skip buttons now? VLC! Also annoying.

BTW something I noticed immediately, but forgot to post, is that when you click on a folder in Finder then go back, it goes back to where you were, instead of back to the top of the enclosing folder. I am very happy to see this, small change yes, but it annoyed me to NO END.

Anyone else having issues with videos still opening in Quicktime 7 rather than Quicktime X?

I can't even do the get info > Change all trick because it's grayed out/inactive for whatever reason.

dictionary...

The "choose the right word" part section of the thesaurus definition is formatted more nicely than it was in leopard.

Also forgot to mention the file size in Quick Look updates in real time. For example if you are extracting something, you will see the the size change as it is being extracted.

Dagnabbit snow leopard.

I had the same problem that the "change all" button was grayed out for certain file extensions (e.g. mp3), but it somehow fixed itself after playing around with it, changing the associated application, closing the window, restarting Finder and then opening the info panel again...

I can't even do the get info > Change all trick because it's grayed out/inactive for whatever reason.

1. Bring up the contextual menu, click on "Open with" and choose "Other..." at the bottom of the list.

2. Choose the app you want from the list of apps, choose the app you want and select the "Always open with" check box.

3. Apply this and exit the window. Now bring up the Get Info window and the "Change All" button should be working.

It's a bug in Snow Leopard.

The Change All feature worked fine for me
