Funny, Microsoft seems to think the dock is the way forward.

Explain this more. What did MS really take from the dock? Icon grouping has been around since '98 i believe and now its just on by default. They took the labels from the icons, made them large, and combined the taskbar/quicklaunch into one. They took the 3 good qualities of the dock and kept the 15 good qualities of the taskbar like window previews on mouseover and windows that tile.

I'm beginning to wonder if they will choose another name other than "Snow Leopard".
