Preview available in column view

This feature is already available in column view (apple 3) for 10.5. It will be nice to have the feature in all views.

(I see this point has already been made while I was registering!)

but in leopard, if u "quicklook" (spacebar) on a mp3 it will play it. i don't see why this is so exciting

Having not seen/used it, what I'm liking about the concept is less screen clutter.
Not that Quicklook is bad - I heart Quicklook. A lot. Very efficient.
This just sounds even cleaner/more efficient.

That's really cool, but Linux had had that for like 4 years now. It's so funny how new features are added to OS X, and all the fan boys jump up and down as if Apple came out with this cool new feature when the rest of the world has had it for years.

Yep, if by "the rest of the world" you mean only a bunch of people...

Unfortunately, nobody uses Linux.

Completely agreed.

I so hope that is in snow leopard, wouldn't that count as a new feature though?
That's what I was thinking.

I just thought about it and if you think about it. They are laying the groundwork for multi-touch. Touch the center of the icon and the preview starts playing. Double tap to open the file.
And it would make sense that the preview would play in an icon instead of in a window, because icon previews are less clutter (so less hand/arm usage) than opening and closing a window, both for the iPhone / iPod touch / mini-tablet and a possible touchscreen Mac.

true, usually people consider a feature windows cant do, and OS X couldnt recently do, a new feature.

Since linux is much less then minority, noone really considers it wit these things.

Does Vista even have a quick-look like feature? Or are windows users still stuck opening window notepad to view a text file? haha... now that i use leopard all the time, the thought of opening an application just to view a simple file seems extremely silly... but just a little more then a year ago I would do it all the time without thinking twice.

How much

Well apple is claiming that Snow Leopard is only going to have 1 new feature, and maybe just a few small tweaks but how much is Apple going to charge for it, full price(129)???

Don't get me wrong, I know about the 64bit kernel, GCD, openCL, Quicktime X however selling that kind of stuff to the general populace is going to be hard at $129.00 when they don't notice any difference. I guess it all comes down to how much faster it really makes the system feel.

Funnier than referring to Linux as "the rest of the world?"

I don't use Linux.
I use OS X.
I'm not on a Linux forum.
I'm on a Mac forum.
Why on earth would I know, let alone care, about features of an OS I don't use?

wow, great thinking.
i would have never thought that.
imagine surfing on the internet with multi-touch as if you were on the iphonr but instead of a 2.5 in screen its a 12/13 inch.

Apple never said Snow loepard wont provide ANY new features... its just not gonna be apples primary focus. In leopard apple was clearly trying to add features, from quick look, to spaces.

But when you think about it, this isnt even a new feature, its simply a tweak (or improvement) to a previous features. As we all know, snow leopards purpose is to tweak, and the improve the over all OS in as many ways as possible.

Any Linux user will crucify you for this. But then again, any Mac user would crucify a PC fanboy for saying nobody used Macs.

I just told that because is hard finding a Linux user... And, when you can find them, and talk about software, this kind of detail is never mentioned when anybody tells something about Linux.

Bitch, bitch, bitch. It's a new thing for OS X (if you ignore the column view implementation of the same idea). So what if it's been available for Linux for a million years? It doesn't say this is the first time we've ever seen it on any platform.

I tried it out in 10.6 Developer Preview and it works perfectly for me.

EDIT: But the icon has to be 72x72 or larger for it to work.

Uselss Gimmick

Funny how nobody has notice that if this "feature" is present, you can no longer just click on the file to select it.

Selecting the file is more common that watching a movie the size of an icon or playing a song without having to laboriously hit that space bar (oh the strain!). I think I'll hope Apple keeps the former and drops the latter as a useless gimmick.

There was a slide saying "0 New Features" at WWDC.

I think you have to select the arrow on the file to use icon Quick Look.

Cool... As long as it doesn't make my Finder more sluggish...

Sometimes, when I open a Finder window (in list or column view), it takes up to 10 sec before I can start scrolling down the window, only to show the previews of 30 items listed...
Then, I start scrolling just to find out the Finder needs to create the previews for the next 30 files... :(

i dunno if anyone said this but
you can watch and listen to music through quick look already

That drives me crazy.

It looks like you need to click the play button for Quick Look to activate.
