Is there anyway of confirming if the iphone is unlocked by maybe calling Apple and providing them with the imei or serial number?

Hi,

now that all of you received your new 6s in USA, who among you tried different sim cards from other countries ? I really would like to be 100% sure to order "unlocked" iphones 6s at full rate from Apple. I'm waiting since the pre-order day a confirmation that some device are sim-free. I'm leaving in Switzerland, thanks you.
  • T-mobile ?
  • Verizon ?
Thanks you for your time lucky iphone 6s owners!

Have a nice day,
RB

I have the T-Mobile purchased from Apple full price it's definitely unlocked.

Just google for unlock check service like I said in my earlier post. Just did this for my mom's phone, and it took 30 seconds.

AT&T unlocked should work on CDMA networks like Verizon. US Cellular's 6S is the AT&T model this year and they are CDMA.

Below are the differences with regards to their Cellular radios according to iMore.

Apple's latest round of iPhones will once again come in both a GSM and CDMA flavor, meaning those on Verizon and Sprint will have a different model. The four models: A1633, A1634, A1687 and A1688 will feature slightly different cellular connectivity inside, so depending on your carrier you may need a different version of the phones.

Here are the bands that will be found in the GSM model:

  • LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30)
  • TD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41)
  • TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)
  • UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
While the CDMA model will contain:

  • LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29)
  • TD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41)
  • TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)
  • CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
If you take advantage of Apple's new iPhone Upgrade Program, you will receive the unlocked model that supports the needs of your carrier of choice. This mainly comes into play when purchasing a second-hand phone for use on a CDMA carrier.

That artcile was based on info that was later updated by Apple. Check it out.

Good to see they cleared that up. They actually state that the GSM SKUs share the same radios, as well as the other two models. They simply have 4 model numbers to help differentiate the original intended carrier, and to help keep the carriers happy.

If the carriers could have it all their own way, each phone would be different, and likely loaded with unique junk software like back in the early 2000's.

What a mess. The sales rep I spoke to at the Apple Store was totally confused by it, and I don't blame him.

I'll just throw in that I did the Apple Upgrade Program, so the phone is unlocked. It is the At&t version and when I got home I tested it with an O2 sim card I had from traveling over the summer. Popped it in my iPhone 6s and boom I got T-Mobile coverage. So, they work with other GSM carriers and I don't see a reason they won't work with CDMA carriers, because this year Apple states that they also have all of the same CDMA bands as the Verizon phones.

Bought AT&T model 6 Plus at Apple Store - paid full price. They sold it as device only - fully unlocked upon connecting to iTunes. No in store activation, no need for ATT account or iTunes account - just paid and left with 2 unopened boxes
WHAT??!!! I called my apple store yesterday and they told me that I needed to activated it in stores.

Untrue. Walked into an Apple Store this morning, bought a full-priced iPhone, and have it sitting under my desk, unopened and not activated. Plan on activating it once I get home.

Thanks that was my impression too. Does anyone have the actual Tmobile 6S + from Apple and confirm that it is 100% carrier unlocked?

I am waiting on 6S+ from T-mobile. I currently have Verizon service on my 5S, so once I get the new phone (should be today) I will check out if the t-mobile phone works with the Verizon sim card.

It's not that there are four model number to help differentiate the original intended carrier, but rather two sets of model numbers, right?
A1633 is for the AT&T 6s, and A1634 is for the AT&T 6s Plus.
A1688 is for the Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile 6s, and A1687 is for the Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile 6s Plus.
The only difference between the A1633/34 and the A1687/88 models is the addition of Band 30 (AT&T) in the A1633/34.

What I would like to have confirmed is that both sets of full-price models (all four models) have both GSM and CDMA radios unlocked so that if you bought a 6s designated for AT&T or T-Mobile, then they would work on Verizon. From what I've read, they will.

This is the part that I do not get. If both models have full CDMA support and the difference is just band 30 for ATT, why not have the one model with the band 30 and make it available for all 4 carriers? it is not like it costs Apple more to make the phone with band 30 vs the one without it and that way we would truly only have one model (at least in us) to work on all carriers - perhaps they will save this as a feature for iPhone 7 ?

Thats odd, because i purchased mine just like that, Full price and he never opened the box, all he asked me was for ID and to what carrier i was buying it for, then he had me input my cellphone number and password, and then after pay. But when i connected to itunes i restored from back-up, I never received or saw a "congratulations"

If you paid full price (not Apple upgrade installment) you should not have given him your phone number/password. He activated you at the store.

Guys, I will use mine in another country, I know the T-mobile device's lte bands fits with the country but don't know how to activate the iPhone. Should I activate with the t-mobile sim card that given with phone or should I wait to go this foreign country to activate phone with their carriers' sim cards?

This being the case. There is no reason why this years Unlocked AT&T and T-Mobile iPhone 6S and 6S Plus wouldn't work on Verizon too.
They do. I bought the AT&T model on the Apple Upgrade Program and tried it with a Verizon SIM. It worked, even on CDMA.

It doesn't matter. Just activate it where you will use it. It is unlocked either way, provided you buy it from Apple.

I'm in US for another 15 days. Then I'll unlock it with t-mobile card they gave and when I go to the other country, I just change the sim card in it and it will be working. Right?
