So why did you say they don't care about this niche??!!

That guy believes Final Cut Pro X became the better software. Not having two versions at launch was about merchandising philosophy, not ignoring customer needs.

#1 Steve Jobs is dead and he took his attention to detail and visionary status with him. Tim Cook is more interested in his political movements than the details of the products...which is fine, not knocking him personally....but it means he is NOT Steve Jobs and he is not living and breathing Apple like Steve did. The fact that the iPhone 6S looks like an Android device and the SE was just a recycling of the 5/5S speaks volumes. Steve Jobs always told his people never to look behind, only ahead. That is the reason he hated the 25th Anniversary Mac, that and there was no reason the celebrate at the time. They are not as good at iPhones as they were in Jobs' day. Since Scott Forstall left the both OS's have been a mess.

#2 Randy Ubillos no longer works for Apple (He cared as the article points out....yet he is gone).

#3 Where are the pro products? Shake? Aperture? Color? WebObjects???? Gone. Why? Because Apple is not interested in competing anymore for a very small market compared to iPhones. iPhone are the money maker...not creative pros.

#4 Final Cut X did NOT offer the same functionality as all the pro products in the production suite. X is a simplified production tool. It is a very good tool and I like it a lot, but it does NOT have all the features of the old suite. That is why Randy wanted to keep FCP 7 and ship it with both....he knew it was lacking.

#5 Tim Cooks customer relations people basically told me one of the many times I called to complain about the loss of Shake. Here is what they said: "Sometimes you buy a car, and the next day the car is replaced with a new model. Do you expect the car company to continue to make the old model? Sometimes Apple decides to go in different directions with products depending on several factors. Motion is a great tool that we are very excited about. We value our customers and strive to make the best products in the world. "

#6 My perspective as a customer/user since about 1988.

I never expected for Apple to talk about video software or hardware at a developer event, but after the two hour presentation went by with ZERO nods to creative pros or the developers of pro creative software, I was pretty surprised. Nothing mentioned about macOS in terms of core level enhancements to video, graphics, audio, etc core frameworks. Nothing about making a better experience for creatives and developers of creative apps.

It got me thinking, has anyone heard anything about Final Cut since the top secret sneak peek at NAB? Just curiously concerned...

Follow this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/will-there-be-a-paid-upgrade-to-fcpx.1961230/

Apple disclosed some info at NAB under NDA which I speculate is the automatic metadata feature announced for macOS Sierra Photos at WWDC. This feature is likely coming to fcpx. This will be a game changer.

Well this just happened so that pretty much says it all. Apple killed off ANOTHER pro product.

Still sounds like there is a replacement on the way ...

I was there at NAB 2011 and had the pleasure of downloading on public release day and create a curriculum for local college.
5 years later this is all moot to me.
I am still using the big three and somewhat still old school since I haven't updated Resolve 11 to 12.x.
FCPX just plain works for me. Sure Ill be in Premiere and Avid for other reasons usually client driven and so far to date they all play nice in the same box so all is good :)

Comparing Motion to Shake is like trying to compare Microsoft Paint to Photoshop...facepalm...

Motion is basically Livetype Pro...

Apple basically said to go buy someone else's display. That is not a strategy one employs when you have a new product ready to come out or in development. There is no new display coming.

Interesting. I respectfully disagree. There's a 5K iMac and I see no reason why we wouldn't soon see a 5K Display.

There are plenty of reason, one of which it makes no $$$$. Do you see a line on the financial reports called "Apple Displays"? No. You do not. That is because it isn't worth mentioning.

The next reason is from Apple's own quote they gave to the media "There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users,”.

That is it. It is over. They are not making displays. They make a 5k iMac because they have to. If they want an all-in-one on the books, it needs a display.

The third reason. Who is it for? The 1 person that buys that Mac Pro per year? People buying a Mac Mini are going to buy the $99 display or the $199 display...not one over $1000. The Mac Mini is the entry level Mac, not the high end target audience.

Face it. It is over. Right to your point....they have a 5k iMac. Okay then! They clearly have the means....where is the will? It doesn't take that much effort to put a display in a different chassis. They've had quite a while to do it and get the Mini or Pro ready to go...or even the books....so where is it? You say its on the way!? Best way to sell it:

1) Keep old display on the market way too long and charge big bucks for outdated tech.
2) Make rubbish Macs that can't drive a 5k display.
3) Discontinue all displays.
4) Tell everyone to buy your monitors somewhere else.
5) Release new display????

Anyone with reason can see that......there is no 5k display coming.
