Here's a comparison shot with my old Macbook. Note that it's hard to judge from pictures. If I move the camera slightly I can even make my old MacBook look better than the new one.

Both calibrated with an i1 display 2:

Both default profile, Gamma 2.2:

Mine is 9C8C (B133EW0 V0).

The viewing angles are still the same as my 2 year old C2D MacBook, which is dissapointing.

Haha, same here. I checked my code and it gives:

P.00.6
B133EW04

Is this the better screen?

You don't get it do you? Both models aren't any good. Yes one might be slightly better than the other, but both are horrible especially with blacks. How do I know? I said it above, but I will say it again. My friend has the 2.0 new one and I have the 2.4 new one. Each has different model screens. Both are horrible especially with blacks as the others have said. The other colors are decent. We had our computer geek friend try 3 different calibration programs on our and it still was horrible. It was slightly better, but still crappy. I'm getting a Pro later today because I will always in the back of my mind feel like crap that I spent $1600 on a computer whose screen is worse than my friends $600 Walmart Dell laptop. Apple should be ashamed. As I said earlier it might be fine with some of you, but some of us compare them with crap laptops and they are better screen wise. That is unacceptable to me and many others.

I guess Apple wins again because I'm returning it (the Apple genius I talked to said he won't charge me a return fee and will just apply it towards my new Pro purchase--he said they have been getting a lot of complaints on this new one) and buying a more expensive one.

Well if the computer geek couldn't fix it then it's done for.

Somebody call the Waaaaaahmulance.

I'm sick of all these people complaining. If you don't like it, return it.

Some people are sick of people like you making smartbutt replies. This thread is about the screen problems of the new one. If you don't want to hear people being critical of it then stay in the "I love the new Macbook" threads.

Yes that's true.

I think people lose site of this and need to be reminded so we perhaps shouldn't be offended by it (It is certainly a negative zone)

Dude, if you're sick of people complaining, stop reading the damn thread smart ass ...

I'd say this thread has hardly remained a thread for fair-minded discussions about the screen discrepancy of the new laptop model.

Oh BTW, I love the new MacBook!

Don't talk to me like I am an idiot. Try reading, firstly I called the screen I have "*****", and then asked if it was the "better" one - not a good, a better one.
Yes the screen is no good, but don't act as if I said it was.

I totally agree. This is no place for negativity. :D

Just because you are not happy with your screen you shouldn't take it out on other MR members.

And when you get enough posts you can meander over to the PRSI threads and have a grand time..

There have been more than a few posts stating the MB is a great computer but have issues with the display quality. This is a thread for people to whine, bitch, cry, complain, discuss, rant or otherwise not be happy with their overly priced new Apple MB display.

Glad you're happy. Find the happy happy thread and don't read these if it upsets you so much.

You're welcome to go to Apples own support discussions pages and read some of the same before they get censored.

It wasn't my intention to make it sound like you were an idiot. If you took it that way I'm sorry. I'm just pissed like some of you over Apple's way of screwing us Macbook owners with a piece of crap screen.

While I totally agree we were screwed when it comes to the display on the new MBs, we're not totally screwed. It is a returnable item ... even with a restocking fee. I'm not saying that it makes it right, but with the right attitude I think you can easily get that fee waived. Trust me when I say that being spoken down to is the fastest way for me to pop off. While it happened to me last night I kept my eye on the prize and that was a $150 restocking fee being waived.

At this point Jenn if you can I think you're better off returning yours. My thought is that I am going to get the Air, when the Rev B MB comes out or at least the "quite fix" starts appearing on shelves I'll see the Air and buy the MB. In due time I'll have that wonderful machine back in my hands, but I think I would have kicked myself if I would have somehow talked myself into keeping it.

In the end, when I set my mind on something there's little anyone can say or do to talk me out of it. Once I found the defects in the screen, whether they were personal opinion or not, I was having a hard time not seeing them. If you get what I mean.

I don't think Apple will change the display in Rev. B.

Just wondering, have you perviously owned a Macbook? The Macbook displays for the past 2 years have always been in my opinion sub-par. They have always had horrible viewing angles and bad color reproduction.

Just look at the pic above, the new Macbook actually has a better screen than the old one (I know thats kinda hard to believe).

I had a blackbook and now this new 2.4 Macbook. My blackbook screen was better in blacks and the new one is slightly better in colors (really small difference). Overall I think the last one and this one even out. Movies wise the last one did better in my opinion.

Umm, I looked and definitely not without tweaking. Out of the box, using Apples profiles my display was intolerable for video scenes with dark hues.

I've had MB's and my new one was much worse than previous gen.'s. That's pretty much been the issue here.

I used the new MacBook 2.4 for almost a week before getting fed up with the screen quality and returning it for a MacBook Pro. If Apple would have put the MacBook Air screen in the new MacBooks, I swear it would be a true winner for everyone. But that screen is hideous. I thought I liked it at first and then realized how bad it sucked.

The MacBook Pro screen on the other hand is the best screen I have ever seen, hands down. Freaking beautiful.

I think I'm going to stick it out and keep the machine. The restock fee isnt worth the gamble at this point. I can deal with the screen as movies are not my main use for this laptop. I dont want to later find the new Air's have the same problems as my last Air did and be in the same boat again where I end up buying another macbook and paying another restock fee on the Air.

Unless I'm very much mistaken (I cant find a mysterious Paragraph D of section 7.2 that Apple says I ought to refer to) the UK online store does not charge a restocking fee. I'm not sure how it works in the US, but in the UK there is a distance selling act which gives people who buy online 14 days in which to return the product on nothing more than a whim.

So, the campus Apple Store will not waive my restocking fee. Now, I'm really pissed off ....

Don't ask them to waive the restocking fee. TELL them to waive the restocking fee. If they ask why, you already know the answer. You are not happy with your MacBook because the screen quality SUCKS. Plain and simple.

Screen quality

I'm planning an Al Macbook purchase soon and don't expect to be bothered by the screen quality. I've been pimping a Presario notebook for the past 3 years. This Macbook will be big step up for me!
