You'll lose it eventually when LTE rolls out and they make everyone upgrade.

Nevermind. That's unlikely, by the way. I have several friends who have been with AT&T since before CINGULAR bought AT&T then AT&T repurchased CINGULAR. Back in those days they offered nights/weekends starting at 7 p.m. free and they still have it.

Certain features are kept, but usually things related to data (i.e. text messages and data use) are changed. I'm sure you'll be able to keep Unlimited data on your current iPhone, but if you want to upgrade to the newest iPhone at that time and have access to the 4G network, you'll have to change your plans (similar to the transition from 2G to 3G).

i doubt it.

No such change happened during the transition from 2G to 3G. Between the two, data was data, and a plan that worked for 2G worked for 3G.

What DID change was when Cingular (as it was called back then) discontinued the precursor to 2G, which was Circuit Switched Data (CSD). That had to happen though, because the way CSD is billed was fundamentally different. CSD was basically a cellular version of a dialup modem, and so usage was billed by the minute, not by the byte.

Guess I was wrong. :p I could have sworn somebody said something changed, oh well.

Mine's pretty much spot on with yours.

I did not restore from backup from my old iPhones. I started a clean slate with iPhone 4.

The price did. The 2G plan was $20/unlimited and included 200 texts. When I switched from my original iPhone to the 4, it stayed unlimited, but went to the current $30/no texts included plan that premiered with the 3G phones.

Current usage since July 8:

I'll keep unlimited for a couple of months to make sure my usage patterns don't change, but I've never gone above 200MB with the previous iPhone. I've got wifi access most of the time, don't do much in the way of audio streaming (a few MLB games most months), and almost never watch video, so I'm seriously overpaying for data currently.

I've been SO used to compressed data on my BlackBerry's that going to iPhone 4 next weekend or 4-6wks after depending on stock I have a serious feeling that if my provider doesn't offer 6GB data plan again I'll be paying $100+ per month just for data overages over my normal $65 monthly bill.

PS I'm in Canada.

I used 180mb and have the 200mb plan usually I use way less than that since I'm mostly on wifi but went out of town last month

Ahh... that was it!

I just find it really hard to believe that they will keep an unlimited plan when LTE comes out because with 8Mbps connection speeds the data usage could ramp up exponentially fast for power users...

64.73 MB of 2048 MB

Cycle ends tomorrow - probably bottom out at about 68-70.

Did not hold back, first iphone. Had no concept of how much would be used. Better than I expected. Many places I frequent have WiFi.

I don't think that usage statistics on the iPhone by General > Usage > are accurate...

They don't match my AT&T myWireless app's usage statistics at all.

If you downloaded the free AT&T app and log in, it gives you all of your minutes used/available and there's a "data" tab that shows you how many text messages you've used as well as data and how much remaining.

It says I have used 1.5+ GB's of data for this month (29 days into my billing cycle) whereas on my iPhone (and I've never reset the statistics) it says I have received 956 MB of data, which would be under 1 GB???
