I like reading all of these real life experiences... thanks!

I tried the 7 Plus, I really enjoyed the 1080 large screen, but I felt cramp in my hand after using it for like 20 minutes non stop

I'm still rocking the 6s+ and love it. I work from home so I guess I'm at an advantage in that I'm not lugging it around all day. I swore I'd never get a +. Thought it looked stupid (notch anyone?) and impractical but opted for it because of the screen size. It took 1 single day to realise the phone was perfect. Had no issues in hand(s) or in pocket. Literally blocked out all white noise of people 'laughing' at the size of it whilst I politely pointed out their opinion was irrelevant on the basis of it being my phone. After 2 years it just feels normal.

Would gladly take an edge to edge screen version of the + with no bezels. I wonder if Apple will ever introduce that?

/tumbleweed

I've decided on a 8+ and will upgrade again next year if there's an X+. I think by then I'd have drank enough kool-aid to be 'ok' with the notch.

size and weight of my 6s+ is why ordered new AW LTE. looks good for activities when purse makes no other sense. think will order iphone x and check screen view size variables, as understand Apple letterboxing may diminish screen view below ip8 size in some ways.

Been rocking an a 7+ for a year. No issues whatsoever.

Only you know if it’s right for you based upon how you carry a phone and how big your hands are.

I personally don’t have any interest in going back to a smaller device.

My Galaxy S8+ has a 6.2” screen. That works great for me too.

Yep...

I'm spoiled by the Plus screen. I've got big hands... I can use it one handed which I guess puts me in the minority user base. The smaller screen is too small... and in the case of the X I don't want long and narrow.

I've had the 6 Plus, 6s Plus (skipped the 7) and soon the 8 Plus. If the X was sized like the Plus I'd consider it... but as it is right now it's a deal breaker... notch or no notch.

I know this has been asked lots before in the past, but now the 'Plus' size iPhones have been around now for 3 years, it might be better to see what people's views are after that amount of time.

I like the larger screen size of the Plus, and previously bought a 6S+ at launch but after a month or so I just found it so hard to 'live with' for the following reasons:
  • If I'm not wearing a jacket, and try and put my phone in my pants/jeans/shorts pocket it's too big and hangs out/falls out
  • If I'm wearing pants/jeans/shorts whatever and put the phone in my pocket and then sit down, the pocket becomes too tight and I'm worried about the phone breaking/bending/cracking
  • It's just not practical to 'carry around' in my hands all day
  • It's just awkward as hell to use with one hand, even with the 'reachability' feature it doesnt feel natural.

HOWEVER

Saying all that, I still love the larger screen size and would love to be able to use a phone day to day that doesn't hinder my life in the way a Plus does...I mean when I had mine I was constantly worrying about whether it would fall out/break/snap/bend. I guess the main problem is keeping it in a pants pocket, and moving/sitting with it. Remembering to take it out each time before I sit is just not practical.

Those of you that have had a Plus for a long period of time - how do you live with it?

I guess this is mainly aimed at guys, or at least those that don't have the convenience of a bag to put their phone in all day.

I’ve had my 6s plus for two years now and for about the past 6 months I’ve been dying to go back to a smaller phone. It’s nice having all the extra screen space but for me the smaller phone will be more practical. I use my MacBook all the time now anyways. I only need my phone to do things while away from home. I’m excited to get my 8 on Friday!

Have had a 6s plus for about two years and still love it. It's big and a bit uncomfortable in my pocket, but it fits fine. Would be better without a case, but I've had a few close calls and don't like going "naked". I don't talk all that much on my phone so the big screen is a big advantage for other things like reading the news, social media, movies, etc. Don't think I could go back to a smaller phone and in fact wouldn't mind a slightly larger one.

I can't see any compelling reason to upgrade to the 8 plus, the only thing that might be nice is having a waterproof phone. Never had a problem, but I do worry about an accidental spill.

The OP nailed it, have had a plus for 3 years and am going for the X, smaller real estate, the plus is just a hog when it comes to portability, otherwise a great phone. I am out in the field each work day and hauling it around in my pants or shorts pocket is just uncomfortable to me in the summer without a coat, in the fall and winter not as bad.

My opinion hasn't changed since I started with a 6+ and is still the same after two years with my 6s+.

Got used to it in less than 5 minutes. It's big in all aspects and that's how I like it.

I wear cargo pants or jeans and depending on which it fits in a side pocket or a back pocket.

If I bend or sit down it comes out and is put down somewhere safe. Other than that it has designated places that it sits depending on where I am.

I will never go back to a smaller phone and I don't have to because I don't seem to have all these problems people claim to have with it.

Oh yeah. I use the damn thing with two hands. Not going to drop a ~$900 phone because I wanted to try using a two-handed device with one hand. But then I've always used all my phones with two hands. Using one hand is wierd to me and I don't care for the feeling that the device might slip out of my hand.

I went from a 6+ to a 7 and I regretted it and hated going smaller so much I paid my phone this year so I could upgrade back a plus size which will be the 8+ lol

I’ve owned the 6 and 6s in both variants. Usually I always regret the smaller one because the plus’s battery life is much better. I am genuinely tired of the overall profile of the plus, but I love the screen space. I chose 7+ out the gate last year. Gave it to a family member. Ordered an 8. Currently using a regular 7 in the meantime. The profile feels much better, but I’m already noticing the battery difference and the experience of everyday tasks on the smaller screen. Canceled the 8. Ordered the 8+. Outside of one-handed use it trumps the smaller phone in every way. Side note: I thought the X was the perfect compromise until I saw the comparisons of actual useable screen space. Couple that with the fugly notch and the “can we get away with it pricing” I’m skipping it. Maybe the XL will be better designed and priced next year.

iPhone 6s Plus now for two years and I’m just about to upgrade to the 8 plus.

Love this phone and never had an issue carrying it around. I wouldn’t say my hands are the biggest, yet still never had a problem.

I use both hands when using it, but I’ve never felt it was an inconvenience.

Not small guy FWIW.. Rocked 6+ and 6S+ for years. The MAIN reason I went with the + is screen and (initially with 6+) the optical stabilization. WTS, you have to make accommodations for the bulk. I have pockets in shorts that are too shallow for the +. I have other shorts that it fits in a little side pocket.. unless it isn’t in a slim case. When out and about, it cannot go in the pockets.. for example, if you are out to dinner it will have to go on the table or in wife’s purse (not an option for me.. scratches). I have been out at a nice dinner or even sitting at a bar and the only place to put the + was up on the bar or table.. and that just isn’t what I want to be doing.. and I know my wife isn’t a fan.

Holding the + for extended period of time will start to make you notice the heft of the phone. I know I would often rest the bottom of the phone on my pinky and that isn’t something you want to do for several Neistat YT videos.

When carrying it around you are holding a small iPad Mini in your hands. I don’t have small hands but it is what it is.. you know it’s there and you are more grabbing it than holding it IMO.

The screen is glorious though. You have to make trade offs. In many of my dress pants or shorts the non+ would fit in them and wouldn’t have to go on the bar or table. I don’t feel like I’m holding a mini-iPad Mini with the non+ model.

Just yesterday I traded my 6S+ in for an SE. I am taking some time off from being deep into tech and social media. This little SE is so light you don’t even feel it in your pocket.. much less taking up any real space. However, screen is obviously smaller... email text is much lower.. I am still in ‘beta’ with the SE but my goal is to move away from doing so much on my phone and when I need to watch movies, YT work on emails, etc.. that I go to an iPad or computer. I don’t need to be looking at and using my phone so much during the day and the SE will help me shift these actions to other devices.

I love the Plus model iPhones.. the screen is oh so nice.. I was considering the 8+ over the X.. but for at least 6 months.. the SE is my device..

I have no problem with my 6+ for 3 years now.

The only real issue is during the summer time, with Shorts season.

The pockets on shorts are a little smaller, and the fabric is thinner, so the giant phone in my pocket flops around more.

Other than that its fine.

3 years and I still haven't bought a Plus - my dad has a 6S+ and I absolutely hate it - I feel like I'm going to drop it or something, and taking photos with it doesn't feel natural or right at all.

The Plus is a phablet, there's just no denying its size/bulk. The X will be popular amongst those who can't stand the Plus phablet sized phones... I would rather get an S8 over S8+/N8 too. The current 4.7 iPhones have already pushed the envelope for me in terms of size, but like everyone else, I want a bigger screen, just not a bigger phone.

Since you are asking for opinions, here's mine. I personally can't stand the size of the plus. Obviously many others like it. I don't find the plus to be very portable/pocketable at all. I don't wear skinny jeans, but they aren't baggy or loose fitting either. More of a "slim" cut I guess.

Sorry, but if I can't comfortably fit a phone in my pocket (especially when sitting down), that's a deal breaker. I've always liked smaller phones - back to the days of the Motorola StarTAC and other small phones. It's funny how phones kept getting smaller and smaller for years and now they keep getting larger and larger. I personally find the plus to be ridiculous. Why not just carry an iPad around?

The non-plus form factor is pretty much perfect IMO and is about as large as I would ever want to go for something that is supposed to be portable and pocketable.

Do you recall the articles that claimed Apple was "doomed"™ unless they put out an iPhone mini / nano? Apple was also "doomed"™ unless they put out a netbook....

If you can swing for the X, I would. I can't use the smaller iPhone because the battery life is so much weaker than the Plus, and I'm a career photographer / cinematographer so I have to have the latest camera tech in my pocket - so I've absolutely loved the perks of the Plus, not to mention the higher DPI display and stuff.

The X will get you the bigger display in a size you can more easily manage in the hand, and it's a stone's throw away from the 8 Plus in price if you think about it over a year or two. Personally, I'm hoping for an X Plus next year in the size of the traditional Plus but filled with display.

I actually do wear skinny pants and i have no problem fitting it into my front pockets.
