If you can swing for the X, I would. I can't use the smaller iPhone because the battery life is so much weaker than the Plus, and I'm a career photographer / cinematographer so I have to have the latest camera tech in my pocket - so I've absolutely loved the perks of the Plus, not to mention the higher DPI display and stuff.

The X will get you the bigger display in a size you can more easily manage in the hand, and it's a stone's throw away from the 8 Plus in price if you think about it over a year or two. Personally, I'm hoping for an X Plus next year in the size of the traditional Plus but filled with display.

Stone's throw away in price? .... it's $200 or £200 or some other significant amount in other currencies.
Also, if by "the bigger display", you mean the Plus display, then no you don't. You get a taller 6/6s/7 display.

It worries me the number of people in these forums that firmly believe that the X has the 8 Plus screen size. It's taller, but it's also less wide, and (IMO) a worse aspect ratio

I just ordered an 8 Plus and I'm concerned about the size also. I always thought it looked silly but after using an S8 for a month, I can't go back to the smaller size. I hope that I can adjust to it. There are some features about the X that I don't think I'll like, mostly staring at the phone to unlock it. I will most likely be carrying it in a purse so I should be ok, I think!

@bounce08 There's a good trending thread here in the forums about many of us who normally buy the latest moving to the SE. Most of us have used the Plus models for a few years. Bottom line, it depends on your daily routine if this size works for you. I tried to convince myself it was ok, but adjusting my entire clothing or routine because of the size is over. My hands are starting to tell me as well that they have had enough. I sit in front of a computer all day so the whole ergo issue is starting to catch up to me. :) I'll adjust just like I did to a larger screen. But no one can tell you it will be good or bad, it's something you have to live with and try for awhile. Good luck with your decision.

I’m a big guy, so I got used to the 6+‘s size right away. Fits perfectly in my back pocket with a very slim hard case. Now these guys in my office with the Plus size phones encased in those horrid bulletproof Otterbox cases and clipped to their belts? Turrible. It’s even worse when they have the smaller 6/7 in a case and it’s bigger than a plus model. Turrible.

I just got a 7plus this week, first plus model...its not as big as you think it fits fine with the leather case on in my dress pants front pocket

OK, as an artist, aesthetics often rule for me. But not in this case. Yes, I have my 6S in an Otterbox case (not the largest, heaviest but one that protects the phone and screen from drops). I'm clumsy, distracted, work and teach on concrete floors (studio and classrooms) and have small or non-existent pockets. And cats. You can bet that I'll put my new 8+ in a case! I don't wear belts often so at least I can save you from seeing that horror. :)

Yeah, this is a fashion issue not a technology one. Carpenter jeans (like gusset.com) have a dedicated side pocket. It's right at arms length, out of the way for standing and sitting and is large enough for standard or plus. Just need to add some egrips to the phone to keep it in there when reclining.

Going to move to an 8 after 3 yrs of using a 6+. I am always on the move(walking, running, cycling) and the size(and weight) of the plus comes in the way alot of the time. I have used the 6S for a bit and love the form factor. If I really need the size, will use my surface :D

It wasn’t.... I had a 6s+ and was thrilled to get a 7.... The +was way to heavy and big to haul around and would not fit in pockets or small purses with a case on.

I'm starting to believe the issue is with having tiny hands for a guy. I'm 6'0" and 190lbs but my hands are the size of a petite female.

Wish my experience with a plus was as easy as others, love that screen size.

I'm in the same boat. 6'3, 175, thin frame, and smaller hands and the 7 plus was so uncomfortable after a few days and I had to take it back. I'd love the larger screen size but I after using the iPhone one handed for 10 years I really don't want to adapt to use it 2 handed. I ordered an 8 and once the X comes out I might give it a try but am not optimistic.

Turrible...

:)Just kidding! Hey, you have reasons for needing that case, as posted...totally understand. Maybe that’s the case for those guys in my office, too. To each his own:)

I have the 6s Plus and, although I've gotten used to it, I can't wait to replace it with the X. I love the screen real estate, but it's not exactly a pocket-friendly device.

I bent a 6 plus, upgraded to the 6S (non plus) when that came out and went back to the plus with the introduction of the 7. I love the larger screen and aside from the bendy 6, I haven't had any pocket size issues.

I'm planning on getting an X and will eagerly await a larger XS+ or whatever a bigger screen successor is named. If I / my family of 3 didn't have 3 Apple TVs, 3 iPads, 3 iPhones, 2 Apple watches and a Macbook Pro, I'd consider a Note 8. For me, when it comes to screen size of a phone, bigger is better.

The pocket was the dealbreaker for me. I had a beautiful iPhone 7 Plus jet black but gave it away, and bought a 7 instead. Sometimes I’m tempted to take it back, lol, but remind myself of the pocket issue. I honestly want the 8 plus while waiting for the x, but I don’t know how I’ll keep it in my pocket. It would always slide out.

I have had a plus model for the past 3 years and no issues here. I am a man and wear pants that actually fit and have no problems with carrying my 6s+ in my front or rear pockets.

If you are petit or want to wear but hugging skinny jeans, you may want to avoid the plus model.

I adjusted to the size of the 7 plus after a few hours. I always buy clothes with large pockets anyway so it's never been a problem carrying it around.

The Plus is fine once you get used to it. I’ve had mine for 3 years and the biggest issue I’ve had is it wearing a line on my pants. However, I’ve noticed that on a lot of people with normal sized phones as well.

It’s really not going to matter once the X form factor is what the future iPhones use leaving the smaller 8 and 8 Plus sizes behind.

I've been carrying a 6 Plus for three years. When it was released, I thought it might be too big, but once I held it, I was hooked. It's the major reason I'm not holding out for an iPhone X - I really like that big screen.

It always fits in my breast pocket, though it sometimes makes the shirt hang oddly. And there's no trouble in my pants pockets.

But that's me. Your mileage may vary, offer not valid in the following states.

Wonder if the fingerprint sensor on the new iPhone 8 plus "3rd generation fingerprint"

The iPhone 5s iPhone SE and iPhone 6/plus all run on same first generation fingerprint tech.

The 6s/plus and 7/plus have same finger print generation

Belt holster/clip. Though I've broke 2 clips getting in or out of car.

I will probably go with a smaller size in a year or 2.

No issues with me I have big hands and Fits in back pocket fine or I carry in hand I use it one handed fine walking along I could go bigger tbh.

I have been lugging the Plus around for three years now and my conclusion is that it's definitely too big for me. I stopped wearing a case on it after a year because that only made it bigger. What I like about the Plus is the higher PPI but in the end the bulkiness is not worth the sharper display IMO.

In retrospect I should've sold it and gone for a smaller model but I so desperately wanted a new design that I waited and waited... and now that new design is finally here, but it costs an arm and a leg. So I'm going to settle for the iPhone 8 and call it a day.

BUT I will say this: even after a whole 3 years of heavy usage my iPhone 6 Plus is still as straight as when it came out of the box! I guess that whole bend gate crap was not an issue at ALL.

If I'm not wearing a jacket, and try and put my phone in my pants/jeans/shorts pocket it's too big and hangs out/falls out

This is SO familiar! :D

Never had much of an issue... but its very appealing the iPhone X is just slightly bigger than the regular 6/7/8 with a much bigger screen.

This is why the iPhone X is so perfect for me. Bigger screen in a smaller profile. Have had the 6 Plus, now 7 Plus. I was happy with the phone when it came out but now that I see the bezels can be shrunk, I can't wait to get rid of it and have something more practical like the X.
