Well, he is smartly dressed (as you would expect) and he have a gold rose Apple Watch with midnight blue classic buckle. He patiently waits on a bar to order a glass of JD (his favorite) while the barman is serving another man who just by coincidence have ordered the same drink.

When he have been served, he asks for the price and barman says, your bill is £110! The man says......wait a second.....you just charged the other fella £5.70 for it. The barman with a smile face then explains: Ah, yes sir. You are right. But he is only wearing the sport model. And in case you haven't notice, your drink is on Glencarin Glass and his is just in a cheaper ordinary glass.

This is probably the best one so far.

Ok. Wait, what happened?

Would your spirits be lifted if I bought you an Edition watch? ;) You seem like such a depressed person.

This.

I'm not even going to take the time to shoot down your ill-defended "argument". You're coming from the viewpoint of an Apple supporter on a Apple fan forum, not the real world. Go poll people outside this forum, people who can and do buy watches at the Edition's price point routinely, and see how many are interested. Heck, just look at the "what do your friends think" thread here on MacRumors to get an idea of what MacRumors members are finding out when asking their real life friends and acquaintances regarding who's interested in the Apple watch (hint...very few outside tech forums are interested or see the point). Seems like Apple might need to do a little more market research if a whole thread of APPLE FANS can't find more than a handful of people outside tech geeks who even want the watch. M
And...just curious...if you're so pro Apple watch, why are you even in a thread that is clearly making fun of the solid gold version?

Sorry to tell you but the top 1% will not buy the Apple Watch Edition because $10,000 - $17,000 is too cheap for them. I see plenty in NYC that's worth more on a daily basis. You must understand that at their level it's a status symbol. Why have a status symbol beneath your level? There will be a crowd for the Apple Watch Edition, but one doesn't have to be super rich to afford it. I would say by Manhattan standards, if you're doing fairly well, that you can definitely afford a $10k watch.

You're forgetting the most important part of it being an Apple Watch. The price is just the price. And the status symbol isn't beneath their level at all in this case.

And you're forgetting (or aren't aware) that the name "Apple" doesn't carry a lot of weight with people who are accustomed to spending lots of money on really expensive luxury items. Despite the hopes and wishes of people on this forum, Apple isn't considered a luxury brand. They make good electronics. That's it. Someone buying Patek watches, platinum Rolexes, $3000 pairs of shoes, $400 shirts aren't impressed or wowed by the Apple logo. Apple has done that to themselves by trying to sell to the masses.

So far the Apple Watch is a toy or oddity. I don't mean to belittle it, but in the high flying crowd, there is no question that a nice Rolex is a much nicer status symbol than an Apple Watch Edition. If I were to spend $15k on a watch, it would be something on the Rolex, IWC, Baume & Mercier level. The execs I know that do have $15k+ watches have no interest in spending the same on the Apple Watch Edition. I'm sure there will be some very rich geeky types, but that is a small minority of the wealthy crowd.

He strolls casually through the heavy oak and brass doors, opened for him by the doorman. Dressed to the nines, including his matching Gucci scarf, shoes, and gloves, he glances down at his Apple Watch Edition to get the time and check the notification from the friend he is meeting.

Noticing someone else at the bar dressed in Burberry, he seems interested in meeting the man at first, but then glances scornfully at the other man's Apple Watch Edition, immediately recognizing the watch as one of the $10,000 models instead of one of the $17,000 models. Chortling slightly, he breezes past the man, whipping his scarf the other way and joins his friend.
