I had a canceled order on a 3gs and AT & T accidently refunded my money twice. Should i inform them? I don't want to get in trouble for fraud anything but I had no say in this. Is it worth calling them up?

yes...

you can get a criminal record if they realize... but its a big company, they might not realize, however its not worth it. Report it to them.

I'm in the UK, however i'd seriouslly consider refunding it, if they find out, as others say is jail time really worth it?

If it was a check then yes send it to them. If it was by credit card then let them figure it out. If they take it out of your credit card then cool no big whoop. If they just plain out forget then you don't have to contact them as they are in charge of keeping up with payments and refunds not you. I also believe they have enough intelligences to catch it and ask you before contacting any agency

Inform them if you like AT&T, don't do it if you don't like AT&T.
If you choose not to, just let them know that you didn't realize it after they found out.

Ok i had originally bought this 3gs for full price and was going to exchange it for my 3g since i had it < 30 days. The week i bought it my debit card was canceled because it was stolen at the casino. When i came to pick up the phone i explained this to the manager and he said the order would still get processed anyway. The order never went through because i had a replacement phoen instead of the original phoen so it was canceled. The manager said my return could take up to 14 days. 3.5 weeks later when no return had showed up period the same manager looked up the account and refunded my money. Low and behold 3 days later there comes another posting for 629.55 (16gb 3gs + tax) showing up as two seperate returns.

The key is also both of these transactions were done by the manager in said store. I have a recipt for the 2nd one. The 1st receipt was wrapped around my phone when it was sent back.

it's basically up to you. they might just realize it but probably not so it's your call. either way you aint gettin' in trouble

You cant get in trouble for their mistake. They can debit it back out though so be careful and you may not get notice so if you spend it, and they debit, your stuck with an overdraft if you don't have the $$$ to cover it.

This happened to a customer once a long time ago when I worked at CCity. She got refunded twice and Ccity zapped the money back out and she got hit with a fee and came in Ccity yelling at me for it lol.

It's best to bring it to their attention. AT&T will definitely catch the error down the road during inventory at the end/first of the month. Regardless that you have a new debit card; you are still responsible for the result of their error. Also, the credit/refund was issued to you via your banking institution and will reflect on your AT&T account; what's to keep them from just charging your AT&T account for the 2nd refund or better yet, freezing your AT&T account, so that you can't use any AT&T phone(s) or go over to VZ or Sprint b/c of the damage to your credit? Just do the right thing, for your peace of mind....:eek::eek:

I think what people fail to realize is that it isn't the OP's money, it is AT&Ts. No, you can't go to jail for it, but the right thing to do is return it.

Its up to you OP. But for sure; NO CRIMINAL RECORD AND NO JAIL. Our jails are overcrowded and we already letting hundreds of criminals/convicts back to the streets to perform "community services" because of the overcrowding. For God sack, we are using ships as jails because of the limited space in the land!! do you really think they are going to jail the OP for few hundred quids because of an error by the company manager!!

Apparently the government scare tactics are really working well!

Or was that a legal lawsuit?

Just checked with a lawyer, and apparently, the company can sue you

They can, but they won't. it cost more to sue you than the price of the iphone!

Worse case scenario is for the company to realize its mistake, and send you a letter to return the money or use one of these debt collector companies.

Who knows what AT&T will do for money.

You cannot magically get a criminal record from them making a mistake. You do realize there is a process towards getting a criminal record, right?

Are you just making stuff up? At most, you might be able to be sued, if they even care to go to the trouble. However, usually these kinds of errors are corrected immediately. The OP didn't say how long he's had this refund. He may find the double refund is gone tomorrow.

You won't get arrested or a record. You won't get sued. If they say anything act dumb and like you never noticed it. That's what I would do anyways.
