When I was in high school, I remember I begged my parents for months to buy me a computer. They finally agreed, and I ordered a 386 SX 33Mhz computer, with a floppy and no CD drive, from a company called ExpoTech. That was the best computer I could afford. Well, they ended up sending me a 386 DX 25Mhz, with a floppy AND CD drive. I did the right thing, and called them. They promptly sent me the right computer, but no instructions to send the old one back. I called them again, and they assured me they would send a box to send it back. Long and short is they never did, and then a couple months later, they sent me a check for the full amount of the computer! So i had two computers and a check for 1100$.
My parents didn't let me keep the check, and I felt really good about myself at the time for doing the right thing.
All that being said - to the op: HELL YEAH I'D KEEP THE MONEY! SCREW AT&T! Now, for practical reasons, I'd say leave the money alone for a few months in that account, just in case they reverse the charge or come after you for it, but after that - you're free and clear.
So why the story if i should keep the money?![]()
In the meantime, how about editing the title of this thread?![]()
to what?![]()

B/c the story illustrates that all you get for not returning the money is the feeling that you did the right thing. For some people, that is well worth it and an ample reward for doing the right thing. For others, it's not. It's up to you...
i contacted customer service and they said they cant find the sale because its not listed under the account. me thinks at&t isnt even going to realize it because of all the hoops i had to jump through to get the refund in the 1st place.
If you keep it you're a thief. Do you like stealing?

Okay legally Im not supose to say a word, and just tell you to talk to a lawyer (Paralegal Law stated by the BAR) BUT...
Id keep it.. you can NOT get into trouble for their slip up. Its not fraud, and it is not your fault. You have no control over what they do.. not to mention the millions they rape from the population of the world..
So, I say keep it. I would.![]()
Thanks for the advice to all in this forum.
Thats below minimum wage, you could get more than that if you were on benefits and then you wouldn't have to workI work 35 hours a week for £80 and I have to travel for £40+ every other weekend to see my fiancee. I would still give it back!

It absolutely IS stealing if you don't at least try to contact them to remedy the situation. Think of it like this: if you went to your bank to deposit $100 and they accidently credited your account with $10,000 and you then subsequently went out and spent that $10,000, you would be prosecuted.
Now, if you were completely unaware of the situation, and it was an honest mistake, the government, bank, or AT&T can CHOOSE not to press charges. However, being as you have made a thread on a well known website about the issue, your knowledge of the mistake is fairly obvious to any investigator. Granted, the $630 might not warrant an investigation, but you're playing a dangerous game here.
I can't believe so many people on this thread don't realize that keeping this money is a crime. You wouldn't get jail time since that amount of money is most likely a misdemeanor. You might get lucky and could talk your way out of any charges if someone eventually figured out what happened. But is it really worth it?
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse"
Okay, If you are unhappy with AT&T, you can choose not to do business with them! If they are "screwing" people as you put it, they would not be as big as they are! i have other providers before AT&T, and the price and customer service is about the same with all of them! It seems that you have never ran a company! You just work for "the man" and that means everyone owes you something! If he keeps it, I HOPE they draft it back out of his account, at the most inopportune time! Have you ever been stolen from? Its not a good feeling! I had a 4000.00 dollar security system put in my house last week, because, I got hit! Kinda hits home at the moment!
