I sold a first generation iPhone in really good cosmetic condition last week for $315.

(Yes, I know you asked about 3G sales, but I couldn't resist the report. It's remarkable to me how well these things hold their value.)

I got a $360 offer for my 3G. It's still a little early for me to sell. I would have no phone for possibly a month! I think I'll wait to sell until right before, knowing that I'll get less I'm sure.
My iphone has some scratches on the back and a water censor that went off all by itself (i.e. I never dropped it in anything). But nothing has ever been wrong with the phone! It's weird! I honestly was just reading a forum where I found out about them, looking at mine and was like "holy crap, mine's pink...why?!
Anyways...I'm hoping I get at least $300, I'm hoping for a 32G! I need more space!

I put my white 3G on eBay starting at $0.99 and it's only up to $202 right now... There're 3 more days left on the auction, so hopefully it goes up to ~$350 by then.

You probably know that almost all of the real action will be in the last half hour of the auction. Or maybe the last five minutes even.

I sold mine for $750 last year when they were still hard to find, about a month after getting it. :D

I hope so! I have an offer for $250 for my 8GB iPhone 3G, should I take it?

I started my auction at $0.99 and put a Buy it Now of $600usd just in case someone was dumb enough. Sure enough, someone bought it within a few hours of my auction being live. It was for a New (Refurb) 16gb White with the new bootloader and 2.2.1 (no way of software unlocking). I was happy to say the least :D

Genius. I'm going to add a buy it now for that much on mine too.

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess you can't add buy it nows to current auctions. :-/ I'm just going to list another one.

So what's the rationale behind people buying these phones.. Is it really there just naive to the fact that a brand new one will be announced... Or is there some lucrative underground demand for old iphone parts?

What are the chances that the new iPhone (soon to be launched) will be available on a non-contract basis?

Thinking of selling my current iPhone 3G (which I bought in January this year) and then buying the new iPhone and using my existing contract sim card.

I'll be selling mine here soon for the newly released device.

Seeing as AT&T has given us upgrade eligibility, I will probably end up signing for another two years and buying the new one for the contract price. Figure I'll either see my White 3G or just give it to a family member...

I wondered the same thing. I mean it's pretty highly publicized! I hope I get at least what I paid for it...but more would be amazing!

Just posted mine on craigslist. Is $450 too much to ask for it? Should I lower the price? It's a 16GB White in almost perfect condition

News to me...

I had the same phone as u and that was my starting price about 3 weeks ago.. With that price i got no "serious" bites.. I finally sold it last night for 365.. If i were u I would come down in price, especially this late in the game.

I got 375 for my 3G 8GB 2 weeks ago on eBay. It was jailbroken and not unlocked, and I didn't want to ship out of the US.
