300??? For a damaged 1st Gen 16gb iPhone? IT obviously works fine but it def doesnot look good at all with the big dent in the back. Anyone else have any input?

I didn't see it was damage, I read most of the tread, so 200.00 would be about right.

Cool, thanks for the info. So I think I will just start it at .99 cents and then put a reserve of 200 on it. If I can get 200 that should cover the price of the new iPhone they are supposed to announce tommorow and I will be happy.

one question ebay vs craigslist:

seems to me that with as complex an item as a used iphone, you could potentially have problems on ebay. what if the buyer dropped it the first day and broke it, then said they got it that way, and demanded money back? or, if they tried to jailbreak it and bricked it and said the same?

isn't selling face to face from craigslist safer i that respect?

Thats why you put DETAILED pictures of the front and back on your EBAY/Craiglist post. Simple as that.

I have a 3g 8gb that has wear and tear on chrome but is missing the volume button. The volume keys still work though. How much should I do craigslist for?

The short answer is to require insurance and pack the item well with bubble wrap and packing peanuts. The post office will inspect the item to determine if it was broken after it was opened. Of course the buyer could always say you broke it prior to shipping but in that case you should have photos of it to prove that is not the case.

You should never offer refunds or returns on cell phones. If you do you are probably going to get ripped off. If you describe it well and it's in good working condition then there shouldn't be a problem.

Paypal does now offer better protection than they used to. DO NOT ship to an address or person other than the Paypal verified address. Get delivery confirmation and save it for months.

If they start a dispute through Paypal they will probably lose on the grounds that you have proof of delivery. Paypal can't legally give them their money back as you have proof that they received something. They could file a chargeback on their credit card though. That process takes several months to resolve and Paypal will hold the funds until it's resolved.

I have a white 16g that was just replaced 3 weeks ago so it is in very good condition. What do you think the price difference would be if I sell it locked vs. unlocked?

if someone buys an unlocked one, how to activate new service on it without att/apple knowing it is unlocked?

Good luck all @ selling your iPhone 3G when new ones will be $99 straight from AT&T.

I bet they will sell refurbs for $200 for non-upgrade eligible customers as well.

well there you have it folks. iphone 3g S 16gig for 200 dollar (qualifying cost).
comes out june 19th. mark my words, diminishing value in the used market over next two months for the iphone 3g. it might not be drastic, but you will see it.

i sold my 3g iphone 16gb white for 380, i originally posted it for 300 on craigslist and i got 13 emails in 1 hour or so so i raised the price to 400 and someone drove to me and handed me 380, im happy.

That is epic in terms of how fast these current 3Gs are selling. I want to sell mine right now. It's either that or give it my girlfriend. Sigh.

I sold my year-old white 3G for NZD$800 about an hour after the 3GS announcement. I'm expecting the 16 GB 3GS to cost about NZD$800 so it's a super win!
