att locked 3g 8gig used for 4 months, mint condition, posted on craigslist, sold in 20 min for $375. had 7 offers in 15 minutes. this is san diego. avg. 8gig price range for good-great condition imo is 350-400. good value still ;)

craigslist=local only, less value, faster sell, no buyer satisfaction reassurance

ebay=global potential for possible buyers, more value, slower sell, paypal reassurance, nasty fees for seller!!!

btw: should they decide to price cut the new iphone as has been speculated, the value for the current 3g iphones will suffer slightly. with the value to cost ratio lowered, and the marketing emphasis on a newer technology/features to the common consumer, the new iphone purchases will sky rocket, and the demand for iphones in the used market for iphones will decrease. the only exceptions are ebay (international) and unlocked iphones-the niche in the used market that will still thrive (for now), for all those non att US iphoners. v2 and v3 may be identical in function once the 3.0 firmware is introduced, but apple is one of the best in convincing the consumer that newer is always better. good luck with sales folks!

Yes, it is under the "Other things you would like your buyers to know" section of your create your listing page(just click change buyer requirements near the bottom of the page). Or you can follow the instructions at http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/buyer-requirements.html. Since you are new I would also advise that if you are accepting Paypal don't ship to any address other than the Paypal verified address. If anyone request that you do it's best that you refuse. You may get request to end the item early and sell outside of eBay which is also a very bad idea. If you are in the US and mailing via USPS get delivery confirmation for your own protection. It's the only way you can protect yourself if you do get a fraudulent buyer.

Thanks for the advice. I plan to sell mine on ebay after the new ones come out and this advice is helpful. I'll post the sold price when that happens. I'll probably go with a BIN of $600 for my white 3G.

480. Figured I should be selling before everyone else started to..glad I did too by the looks of it.

8gb black, jailbroken

I got a $360 offer for my 3G. It's still a little early for me to sell. I would have no phone for possibly a month! I think I'll wait to sell until right before, knowing that I'll get less I'm sure.
My iphone has some scratches on the back and a water censor that went off all by itself (i.e. I never dropped it in anything). But nothing has ever been wrong with the phone! It's weird! I honestly was just reading a forum where I found out about them, looking at mine and was like "holy crap, mine's pink...why?!
Anyways...I'm hoping I get at least $300, I'm hoping for a 32G! I need more space!

If you unlock, you'll get much more on ebay
I sold my original iPhone a month after buying my 3G, and got $500
hopefully I can do the same this year
if i can keep it up, I'll actually MAKE $200 (if you think short-term at least) every year when I upgrade my phone

I put my white 3G on eBay starting at $0.99 and it's only up to $202 right now... There're 3 more days left on the auction, so hopefully it goes up to ~$350 by then.

I dont know why people put anything on ebay for more than 3 days. Most of the bidding happens on the last day with 90% of it near the end. When i go on ebay, i always look for items ending soonest and dont go farther than two days at the most to go and then ill watch those if they sound good.

Thank you! I've always done 3 day auctions for the exact reason! Besides, I wanted to get my 3G sold before the new iPhone is even announced. My auction will actually end 3 hours before the keynote.

What happens if the new iphone isn't immediately available? You are stuck without a phone...

I sold mine about 5 months after launch. It had pretty good scuffs on the back but it still sold for $460! I was very impressed. I guess it was because there was limited stock and hard to find? Especially since I only paid $199 for it.

And btw it was not jailbroken/unlocked or anything.

Complete newbie here..I got the same question as the other poster...what if the new iphone isnt available right away. Aren't you guys left without a phone for a while? (I guess unless you have another phone somewhere in the mean time)

How do you go about selling the iphone anyway? Is it all you have to do is pop the sim card out? And then you can sell the phone? Do you have to do anything else?

just sold mine last week, I exchanged it and it was brand new 16gb, hardware unlocked, for $650 on ebay.

Can anyone give me some guidance for a price point for my 16gb original iPhone. Reason I ask is because its got a pretty nasty dent on the back which has caused the wifi to not work but the phone is completly fine other than that. I have been using it for the last 6 mo or so without the wifi and with the big dent and its working as normal (obviously with no wifi though). Any ideas for a price?

realistically you aren't going to get that much, maybe $200-$300 tops, I don't see you getting more than that, and that's being generous.

Iphone buyers, expect their phones almost in perfect condition.

good luck.

This is not related to the 3G however what do you guys think the price of the first iPhone will be like if indeed a new iPhone is announced? I ask this because the 3G and the original are not that different and would look to pick up an unlocked one for cheap.

Thanks for the info, I really dont expect to get much. If I can get 250 I would be happy. So you think a starting bid at .99 cents with a reserve of 200 would be about right?

This is a good read. I am glad I have options out there if the new iPhone is something I would want. My 3G is only 3 months old, I have an Otterbox case for it and it's in mint condition.
If the new iPhone is something I want, I'll buy it and sell my 3G on eBay. If I can get 450.00 to 500.00 I'll be happy.

I would put a reserve of 300 at least after reading this and from what I heard you want the auction to end on a Sunday night (or was it Saturday night?).

Im not selling mine last year, after the 3G Came out, 2G Prices skyrocketed, hopefully this will happen again >.<

300??? For a damaged 1st Gen 16gb iPhone? IT obviously works fine but it def doesnot look good at all with the big dent in the back. Anyone else have any input?

Wow looks i'll use ebay next time.. I used craigslist and only got 365 for the same exact phone.

I mean, paypal and ebay fees suck, so that 400 turned out to be 388 after paypal's cut. I still have to pay ebay 9 bucks for my listing, and shipping was another 14 bucks. So craigslist can have its advantages.

uhh....its not too hard finding a spare phone to use in the mean time. Use your old one, or one of your friend's old phones. Its only for a few weeks, and if no new hardware is released, then snatch a 3G back up. And no, you need to restore the phone too, unless you dont mind all your personal data being given to someone else.
