I went 4S -> 6 and also contemplated returning my 6 but ended up keeping it. But I still use my 4S occasionally and also my wife's 5S. Yes, they do feel smaller, and text is smaller, especially in web sites not designed for mobile. But it feels better, like a true hand-held mobile device, whereas the 6 feels like it's trying to be more of a tablet-like thing but not succeeding at being a hand-held mobile device.

With the 4S and 5S, even if you're one-handed it's easy to flip it into landscape mode when text is too small, especially if you have a nice grippy case. The 5S is even better for landscape mode than the 4S. And the 5S is fast; it actually feels faster than my 6, but my wife's is still running iOS 7 (but having to push less pixels may have something to do with that, too). I've managed to get better at one-handed use with the 6, but it's just not the same.

If I had it to do over again, I would've never bought the 6, and would have bought a used 5S. Now that I have the 6 and I'm past the return period, I'm going to stick it out, and if I still don't like it next year, maybe look at Android devices in 2015 (e.g. something like the Sony Z3 Compact). I'm not planning to go backwards at this point. If Apple isn't going to make a phone I like, it's time to move on.

Upgrading off of the 4S has been great, but most of what I like about the 6 is in the 5S. 5S -> 6 is very marginal improvements in most areas, and NFC is about the only major thing you miss in the 5S. I'd care more about NFC if it did more than Apple Pay.

So I finally gave in and returned my 6 - but now my 4S is too small!

Props. I could never go back to a 4S at this point, way too small and no Lte.

I am a dreadful decision maker, I have no qualms about that. But a $700 device warrants a fair assessment.

When I first bought it it was a bit awkward to hold coming from a 4S, but I decided to give myself time to adjust. After a couple weeks, I had definitely adapted to it but it still wasn't quite as comfortable as the 4S. I took it back to the Apple Store where I discovered that I was a day late; the day you receive the device counts as day 1. Not to worry, AT&T gave me the go ahead to send it back to them and so I printed out the return label and tried for another few days to see if I got used to it any more. If not, I planned to buy a 5S off eBay, which I thought would be a happy medium.

I was practically 50/50 - loved the phone and how smooth it felt and how fast it was, but still wasn't 100% used to the width and one handed use. I finally mailed it back, and upon going back to my 4S it instantly felt too small!! I found myself squinting to see the text on it and even using it felt weird. I feel like even a 5S would feel/look too small now.

I know I know, I'm crazy. Now I'm debating calling and having the post office in TX recall the delivery and send it back to me.

I'm just trying to figure out - am I just wanting it because it's gone now or did I really get used to and can't go back to the tiny 4S/5S? Sorry so long this is honestly one of the toughest times I've had making a decision.

You've got to be my twin, I've been in the same boat. Came from the 5s, switched to the 6. Ordered the first one on release day, and sent it back shortly after because it was just too big. Started having remorse, and decided I wanted another one to try, but this time I was going to get it from Best Buy (i'm a rewards elite member, 45 day return period).

So, fast forward about 2 weeks, and I found one in stock at my local best buy, and picked it up. I've now been using the phone for about 3 weeks, and up until Monday night, just knew that I was going to return it. I've been using the 5s and 6 side by side for the past week, and just could not get over the size difference. After all of the benefits the 6 offered me, the one handed use just wasn't there.

On Monday night, I decided to purchase a new case (have already tried Rock 0.6mm, Spigen Neo Hybrid and Neo Hybrid Aluminum), and picked up the Speck Candyshell from Wal-Mart. It has totally transformed the way I look at this phone. Even though the Candyshell is a larger case, it helps make the phone a lot easier to hold in my hand, so much that the 5s has been erased and put in a drawer.

So, if you happen to get a phone back, as much of a pain as it might be, try a few different cases. See if there is anything you can do to make the phone more comfortable to hold. I noticed real quick that my larger hands did not like the extremely thin Rock, and the Spigens were all too wide, but this thicker Candyshell has made me love the phone all over again.

From what I gather, everybody likes the 5S form factor more than the 6. People like the 6 for its better camera, battery, screen real estate and of course (most of all, for many) because it's the new iphone. But nobody is psyched about the way it feels in their hand and their pocket. That's why I'm leaning toward upgrading my 4S to a 5S.

Haha it's called dysfunctional! But yeah, you think the 5S will be too small for me too or do you think when I get the 6 I'll have the same problems with it again and I'm just remembering it more fondly?
Can you ever see yourself wanting to use ApplePay?

Everybody?? I much prefer the smooth sides of my 6+. The sharp edges on the 5s were obnoxious to me. A 4s body with 6 screen would be sweet.

I'm either getting a 5S or a 6, 4S is not coming back. I'm just using it temporarily while I drive myself insane trying to decide.

If you were quinting with the 4S, you will do the same with the 5S. Just thought that was worth noting since you mentioned it in your OP.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, they're really the same size

You'll get used to the bigger size but you'll never get used to going back to smaller. Your inner self got you to return the 6 so you can get the 6+.

When I got my 6 my missus got my 4S... Now after almost a month is using this phone whenever I take the 4S I don't know what to make of it...it feels really ****ing tiny...!!

Suck it up and wait for the 6s with possibly 2gb rams. My iphone 6 plus is crashing left and right in Safari already.

Post office can't recall delivery. You'll have to buy another one. Get a 5S that's your best option since it's in the middle of two.

You probably could do it - only difficulty is the fact that you used a return label, depending on the shipping method - if you said I returned the wrong item or something I bet you could. :p

Can you imagine the battery life on iphone 6+ with thicknes of 4s

It's roughly the same size as the 4S though is my concern

I hear ya. The 5/5s screen is only .5 inch bigger. Personally for me when I got the 5 after having the 4 I thought it made a difference. Like I said I would recommend the 5/5s for you if the size of the 6 is too big. The 5/5s was and is still a very good phone imo. Personally I have the plus and I could never go back to even a 6 but that's just me.

As to what you should do. Buy another iPhone 6??? but given the time you've lost you may as well wait for the 6s now. I hear it will be coming with a 3D screen.
That's complete rubbish. He hasn't lost any time, the iPhone 6 is a little over a month old. Besides why wait for the 6S when he can just wait for the iPhone 7 or 7S. I heard those will be better than the 6S
