Good lord... It's like saying you hate certain TV cause it needs to be turned on with the remote.
Every TV has to be turned on. Poorest analogy I've read. Does help me understand why you don't get it. Try this:
Not every media player has an extra step between powering on and playing your media. In fact most don't. The other iPods don't. Samsung and Cowon and Creative and Sansa and every other brand but Zune don't. Apple either simply failed to realize this wasn't a phone, or kept the need to swipe in it to train users for eventually upgrading to an iPhone. Consider yourself trained.

You Apple haters do know that the Slide to Unlock thing is Apple's version of the Unlock thing for cellphones? You know, the "To unlock press * then #"?

Stop complaining and get on with your life haters.

1. The ipod Touch is not a phone
2. I never have to unlock my cellphone. Nor do I make accidental calls while my phone is sitting in my purse. (Neither phone nor ipod Touch would ever be in my rear pocket. Since I don't have any 99% of the time)

Stop calling people who disagree with you "haters" Name-calling makes one seem much younger in the online environment.

Get real...

What a piece of crap are you talking about?

He/she is a customer who wants a feature.

I sympathize with the OP who wants that feature. Isn't there a way to contact Apple and make a suggestion?

Because there is no way possible to satisfy EVERYONE. The vast majority of people either do not care about swiping to unlock or prefer it. The people that don't, well, live with it.
Apple has millions of customers. They cannot satisfy everyone all of the time. I have never in my life seen a crowd that has such a sense of entitlement.

Thank you so much for defending me against Apple fanboys!

Don't mention it! :D Somebody has to defend the people who post here with legitimate concerns and threads from the fanboys/girls who can't accept that other people have opinions that they disagree with, and as a result, have to act like someone who's thrown their toys out of the pram!:D

Sure, in iTunes click the "Provide iTunes feedback" button. Select "An enhancement request" from the list. Tell them what you would like them to do. Click "submit". Tell your friends to do the same as it will take a lot of people to make Apple change what already is. While you're in there mention the Folders icon cover idea I gave them last week. Oh and tell them to allow us to be able to move the Folders and icons around on the wallpaper any way we want. Thanks

So you're basically saying that people who have difficulty swiping the screen; including disabled people shouldn't be allowed to use a iPod Touch or iPhone?
Sure, let's expand that mentality.
We should have no cars because some disabled people cannot drive.
We should have no forks because some disabled people cannot eat with them.
We should have no stairs because some disabled people cannot walk up them.
We should have no guitars because some disabled people cannot pluck the strings.
We should have no wedding rings because some disabled people cannot put them on their fingers.

You apparently missed my earlier post, so let me repeat. Please, leave disabled people out of this argument. A person who has problems swiping to unlock due to a disability would have difficulty using touch-screen devices in general, and adapting iDevices for their use would be a much more complex endeavor than simply doing away with the swipe to unlock screen. Your repeatedly invoking their plight just shows you have no understanding of the issues involved.

I don't mean to belabor the point, but I agree. I do think that Apple should keep accessibility in mind when designing their devices, whether making their products universally accessible, or, barring that, easily open to after-the-fact modifications to make them more usable.

I think we also agree that it's pretty low to feign concern for accessibility in order to justify a tantrum.

You know its completely typical to see fanboys defend useless Apple features that make no sense and just get in the way, if this was in a competing product it would be thrashed relentlessly
Great. Thank you! This is good to know.

No its not, turning off auto-lock keeps the backlight on. Its not a solution at all.

The iPod touch is the only iPod to have touch controls*. The scroll wheel doesn't count. WHAT FUNCTION DO YOU WANT? INSTANT ACCESS TO YOUR MUSIC WITHOUT SLIDING? THERE'S SOMETHING CALLED TAPPING THE HOME BUTTON TWICE.
My iPod 3g says youre full of it. The scroll wheel does indeed count as well, are you saying it wasnt touch sensitive? Or would it destroy your fanboy argument if you couldnt make exceptions to logic?

Anything you say is basically invalidated once you throw out the "fanboy" card. Childish insults have no place here.

You seem to be forgetting the fact that the scroll wheel also functioned as physical buttons, and your iPod 3G was not a touch screen. You know that this is exactly what the poster meant, and you're simply arguing semantics.

Sorry, I didn't think many people in the thread were defending useless Apple features? Here's what I saw:

A: "I'm bent out of shape about the unlock swipe, can I change it?"
B: "Not really, and it's not that big a deal."
A: "This is TOTAL BS, typical Apple heavy-handedness."
B: "Chill out, it's not entirely unreasonable."
C: "Heh, too bad the fanboys are out in force, too bad they aren't free-thinkers like the OP, sheeple, bla bla bla"
B: "get out of here, you are ridiculous, it's a waste of time to complain about this"
C: "FANBOYS FANBOYS FANBOYS HURR DURR"

To OP,
I was browsing Cydia and came across a new package called "NoLockScreen" which does exactly what you're looking for.

It disables the LockScreen and allows you to go back to the same spot you were at.

When the next jailbreak comes out I would recommend jumping on it and then you can install that package as well as many more to make your iPod the way you want it to be.

Or....... the OP failed at buying, which in this case is worse. Consider yourself owned.

BTW, the Cydia alternative is as good as it can get, I recommend to the OP to jailbreak it as soon as possible, he/she may even find something else that may be bothering him/her, but didn't paid more attention. Thread closed please.
