I am doing the same as the OP....but it's my 2 teenage daughters that are going to camp out for me. I am not paying them but I'm sure it will cost me in the end.;)

Pretty sure if they aren't 18 that might be bad, legal wise, to have your non-adult children homeless for the night ;)

Still is genius though, too bad when people's kids are bad you can't use them like this as part of a "stand in the corner" type of punishment :p

What stops the guy from "selling" his position to the highest bidder? ^)

I told him that whatever the price is, I'll beat it. Unless it's outrageous. Thinking back, I should have downloaded that app and made him sign a legally binding contract lol.

I hate when people get in front of the line when ordering food. I can only imagine how the people would see this transaction go down. Granit you're still only getting one phone (I think) but seeing a lot of people get in line after work hours because they had their friend who was already in line cut through.

In this case, i have two people holding a spot for me, and both of them will be leaving when i arrive. I'm only buying one phone, so anyone behind me should be a little happier that one more possible phone opened up.

true but I guess still "seeing" people moving in and out of lines. i'm sure you'll have some type of confrontation, hopefully its peaceful - though I hope you don't. I don't want to see you on the national news tomorrow morning. :D

Yeah, it would suck for this thread to become evidence lol.

Im doing the same thing and have done it in the past and it's worked out fine. You're not cutting the line...you're basically taking someone's place and in exchange for their cards that claim the phones when you go in the store, you're paying them or in my case I'm giving them an old iPhone which they can either keep or resell. Lots of people seem to prefer this. No one should get mad at you and if they do, tell them to quit their bitching.

I've done this same thing since the original iPhone release. A friends son is a geek like me and this time I'm "paying" him by loaning him the money to upgrade his iPhone 4S to a new 5S. He's great, reliable and honest.

This is sad paying someone to wait in line for you just so you can get your iPhone on launch day...... is it really that serious....???

I've done the same using Taskrabbit.com after reading an article on CNN.

http://money.cnn.com/2013/09/19/technology/mobile/taskrabbit-iphone/

I initially asked for a 3am start time, but negotiated to 5:30 to get the cost down. This allowed me to wake up at my usual time and take his place in line around 8. I'm getting two phones hopefully, and splitting the cost with another guy, but it's still pretty good money for unskilled labor. The line waiter doesn't' get paid until after the task is complete and Taskrabbit takes 20% for the transaction.

Unfortunately I got a meeting scheduled at 10am, I can't decline, so will have to give up if they can't process my order by around 9:45.

I'm now about 15th in line thanks to the fact that people got shuffled when they had to leave the mall. But I'm here, transaction went smooth and I'm happy.
