I might get it..especially since you can have TMob unlock it right away (if you buy it) and I can use the unlocked iPad with a local SIM when I travel overseas.

All iPads are unlocked, this has been the case since iPad 1st gen. You don't even need to ask for it.

Did they make you pay a $10 activation fee to get a SIM? I already have a SIM that I got online from TMob, but they keep insisting on charging $10 to activate the iPad line/SIM.

They did, but they also gave me a $15 credit off of my next statement to offset it.

Wifi Rmini has been on sale constantly at BB so while not exactly the same price, probably still a good deal for those that want cellular.

The Rmini at BB is $399 now for 16gb, $429 for cellular which I believe is the cheapest they ever sold it for.

The Rmini was $50 off the wifi model only a month ago, that is $75 cheaper than their cellular model ever was.

I do not think BB carries TMO though.

To get the $429 price for the cellular models at Best Buy requires signing a 2 year contract agreement though, whereas the $399 price right now at T-Mobile doesn't require any contract commitment of course.

If I am a current T-Mobile voice customer and also currently have a Verizon mini retina on the free 200mb T-Mobile data tablet plan, am I eligible for the free 1.2GB (free 200mb plus the free 1GB) through 2014? Do I just call T-Mobile and have them add the free 1GB? What happens when 2015 rolls around- can I just switch it back to the free 200mb? Thanks for any advice.

If you don't change your plan, they'll just start charging you in 2015. But you should be able to downgrade.

Out of curiosity can i just do this deal and get an iPad with cellular for 500$ and then after the first month drop the data other than the 200mb for free? So i would be just paying for the 500$ and how ever much the iPad cost for that month of data right?

When I had the iPad 3, it was cellular and I had it with AT&T. Over the life of it, I rarely used the cellular option. So when I bought the iPad Mini, I went with WiFi only. I'm almost always on Wifi anyway which is why I didn't go with the cellular option this time.

But, if I were using cellular, I'd still go with AT&T only because, in my area, T-Mobile doesn't have any coverage.

Despite that, the T-Mobile plan and price is appealing and if there was good coverage in my area, I'd certainly give it serious consideration.

How do the iPad 1's HSPA bands line up with TMO's? I already have TMO for my Android phone, and I'd add my iPad 1 just for kicks. No TMO LTE in my area yet.

So I just went on my iPad Mini Retina and logged into my Cellular Data Account for T-Mobile. I clicked on Add/Change Recurring Data Plan, and the first line item offered is the 1GB for $10 until January 2, 2015. It also mentioned in the notes that existing T-Mobile postpaid voice customers get the $10 discount, which makes this 1GB ultimately free for voice customers. This is what I was expecting to see. I called T-Mobile to verify all this before making the change. The T-Mobile rep insisted that I will only get 1GB and not the 200MB. Namely, she says I will not get a total of 1.2GB of free data, just the 1GB. She says I can presumably change back to the free 200MB at year end to avoid incurring a $20 monthly charge once we reach 2015. Of course I don't trust what she says, as the reps don't see to ever get the information right.

A few questions for you seasoned T-Mobilers, as I am confused--

Under my Data Plan Purchase History, it shows I have the new 1GB plan active as of today (April 13) and my free 200mb plan as active from March 20 to April 19. Note, my regular billing cycle (voice) is the 10th of each month. I noticed that my free 200MB NEVER synced up with my regular billing cycle, which is the 10th of each month.

Under "Active Plan" at the top it just shows "200MB/30 Day Free Data for Life". It does not show or mention the 1GB that I supposedly activated today.

Under "Billing Period" it shows my regular bill cycle of the 10th of the month, which is NOT synced up with my free 200MB cycle.

Suffice it to say, I am confused. Is my 1GB in effect, even though it isn't showing under "Active Plan"? The 1GB only shows as Active under my Data Plan Purchase History. My free 200MB also shows as active under my Data Plan Purchase History.

The way it looks now, it simply says I have X amount of MB remaining on my free 200MB plan.

And since my free 200MB cycle never synced up with my regular billing cycle, does this mean the 1GB will not sync up with my regular billing cycle? Or should the 1GB sync up with my regular billing cycle of the 10th of each month? Will my 1GB not be available until the 10th of May? Will I have 3 different cycles--free 200MB from the 20th to the 19th of the following month, the 1GB as of the 13th of each month, and also my voice billing as of the 10th of each month?

What should be happening here? Should my 1GB be active now, along with the free 200MB (even though the T-Mobile rep says otherwise)? At this point, I know I cannot trust T-Mobile reps to give me accurate info.

Should the billing cycles sync up at all for the voice billing, the 1GB billing dates, and the free 200MB dates? Because my free 200MB and voice billing do not match up.

Should I have 1.2GB or just the 1GB?

If you have put up with reading this long post, thank you!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yeah, I don't know what to believe now.

I called T-Mobile again, and this other rep says I have 1.2GB, that it is active now, and that I have until my next billing cycle (the 10th) to use it.

He says what I am seeing in my Cellular Data Account/T-Mobile Mobile Internet Management account is incorrect.

?????

Just passed my return time frame from best buy by one day on my Wifi only iPad mini.. Sigh. Really wish I had waited two days, now I don't see any options. Wondering if I should try to sell it on eBay and go for it.

Turns out on the 15th when my son's ipad mini purchase turns into "points" with Best Buy, Ill have spent 1500 this year and my membership becomes Elite, which means my return policy extends to 30 days. Hopefully they will let me return my ipad mini since i just got it 3/27. I am so temtped to just order the tmobile one now so i have it soon, but Im terrified Bestbuy come up with an excuse for not letting me return it....

If that happens and worst comes to worst, can i return the ipad mini i bought on tmobile.com from a store, or do I have to send it back via mail? Actually I may just go to the store and do this anyway, I don't see anywhere that says this is online only right?

?????

I am not certain either. I just joined T-Mobile in March and my billing period for my phone lines begins on the 5th of each month. I bought my iPad Mini Retina LTE from my local T-Mobile store yesterday (the 12th) and when I signed up at the store, it showed that I would have a pro-rated month to pay for through May 4th and then my monthly will then be $10/mo. However, he said that because I have voice lines, a $10 credit will be applied so it becomes net zero per month. Hopefully that is true.

Attached is a screen capture from my computer when I check my account for that new iPad. As I read it, I have 200 MB/mo for life and then 1 GB/mo which has the promo through the end of 2014.

When I log into the (lousy) T-Mobile app on my iPad though, the data usage shows like the second attached image. If I am reading it right, I am assuming then that my 1 GB data period is in sync with the billing of the rest of my phones with T-Mobile (the 5th of each month) and the 200 MB free for life portion though is based on monthly usage from the day I got the iPad (the 12th of each month). Seems kinda goofy though. On the computer, the data usage looks like the 3rd attachment.

You wouldn't be the first person. Several months ago, multiple TMO reps told me I wasn't enrolled in Auto-Pay even though the account portal said I was.

I would rather pay full price for my iPads which I already have.

Right now it's zero down for the 16GB air at 20.xx per month plus the cost of your data plan for two years. That zero down applies on approved credit. For some, there will be a deposit required.

Then, add on $100 if you want the 32GB , $200 if you want the 64 GB and $300 if you want the 128.

This deal is mostly aimed at people who normally wouldn't be able to buy an iPad anywhere else.

I have one more day to be able to exchange my iPad at Bestbuy but I'm keeping. It's already paid off. I paid cash for my Air and my 128GB Retina Mini.

It is really a shame that the T-Mobile customer service reps don't have consistent, correct answers for anything. What is the point of wasting time calling them and talking to them, if their answers are different each time I call?

So for those of you who already have the free 200MB on your postpaid (not pre-paid) T-Mobile account, does your T-Mobile Cellular Management Account show your 200MB as syncing with your regular billing cycle? Because when I login, it shows my free 200MB as resetting every month on the day that I first activated the T-Mobile nano sim for the 200MB. Does not sync with my voice billing cycle. Yet, when I call T-Mobile, the rep says that on their end, it shows as resetting and starting on my regular billing cycle. So something is not right here. And now the 1GB addition is probably going to confound things even more, adding a possible third cycle!

Well, I hope it all works itself out. I just want to be able to know how much I've used per month--accurately. Versus T-Mobile reps telling me that what they see and what I see are two different things.

Ok, lots of confusion here... I'll try and clarify some ( Source: cousin manages a chain of TMO stores... )

1- If you have the 200MB 'free data pass' only, cellular internet will not downgrade to EDGE once you've reached the alloted limit. You will have to switch to WiFi for the remainder of the cycle or pony up for more mobile data.

2- If you got the 1GB promo, you actually have 1.2GB after which you will be downgraded to EDGE (which will be unlimited), unless you opt to buy more LTE data.

3- If you have a voice plan with TMO, the 1.2 GB will 'most likely' be free for as long as you're with TMO ( this is still under management consideration, no confirmation yet )

4- All iPads are factory unlocked.

5- TMO's web portal is a mess, and doesn't necessarily update/reflect recently updated or modified changes to your account. The account management portal is still ' work in progress '.

4th time is a charm! I actually talked to someone in T-Mobile tech support who was far more knowledgeable and understood exactly what I was asking.

1. The tech rep said that the free 200MB is NOT synced up with your T-Mobile voice billing account. It simply resets on the same day of the month in which you first activated your nano-sim. She said that the 1GB, however, will sync up with the voice billing cycle. It is the free 200MB that will reset and date from the day of the month in which you activated the nano sim.

2. Tech rep said you will get 1.2GB of free data through 2014. She said that data will first draw from the free 200MB, then dip into the 1GB after that.

3. Tech rep said that once the 1.2GB is used up, the data will slow down/throttle. The T-Mobile customer service reps told me otherwise, saying it shuts down completely. However, the tech rep said that, for practical purposes, the slow data will become so slow that it really will be like having no data anyways.

Now, I hope the above information is accurate, as it was what I was told this morning. Hope this is helpful.
