My phone was shutting down anywhere between 10-20% but mine was doing it on iOS6 and also on iOS7 so I took it to genius bar and they hooked up phone and it showed needing repair of battery, tech said it had to be severe to show on their system, bought my iphone 5 new it was 1 yr 4 months old. So I had them install new battery. It's been a week and no more shutdown's and battery is giving me 7-8 hrs of usage now (after I did a full restore of iOS 7.1) and goes down to 1% every time now. I'll buy iphone 6 but only if it's bigger screen and I won't buy first month usually wait 3 or 4 months in.

My 4s only exhibited this after the iOS 7 update and still happening under 7.1. My phone is way past warranty, and like you I'll just wait to see if the iPhone 6 offers a bigger screen. If Apple surprisingly doesn't offer a bigger screen this fall, I'm going to go Android.

After a couple of days on 7.1 on my 5s the battery drain is still worse than 7.0.6. However on my 1st gen mini the battery life is actually better with 7.1.

I can't believe how many bugs this o/s still has. If 7.0 was released like this I would have been disappointed but this is 7.1, six whole months later!! Doesn't Apple test these software updates before releasing them??? What's the point of BETAs and inhouse testing if no reported bugs get fixed? I am beyond frustrated.

I've been an Apple user for years for many good reasons, but I have to say that Apple quality control isn't the greatest, even when Jobs was running things. We users are effectively their guinea pigs. My biggest problem is that they'll often deny or lie about known issues, even if tons of users are complaining about the same thing.

I can give many examples throughout the years - antenna gate, bad graphic cards on iMacs, bad HDs that had a piercing whine on older iMacs, OS X updates that rendered some Macs useless- bringing them to a crawl, despite Apple promising compatibility, etc., etc.

Then there are the extreme Mac fanboys (aka Apple lemmings and sheep) that have existed for decades, bashing anyone who dare lodge a legitimate complaint; defending Apple as if it was their first born. I just chuckle at them. Hey, I'm a big fan of Apple product, but they take it to a level that I could never comprehend.

Definitely no improvement on my 4S. Maybe a little worse. Will try a clean install tomorrow and see what happens.

Have you bothered to read other posts in this forum, on Apple Support sites, or the tweets and other posts that led to 9to5's article or any other user observations and hard data? Or does the "universe" in which all is encapsulated rests only with your snark in Sydney? And when does user experience amount to being "dubious," as if I am profiting here? atlatnesiti--who is paying you?

It is not the question of who is paying me, but since you have brought it up, how much Samsung pays these days to Troll Apple based forums,,?
We all know that they do... ;)

I am very pleased, never got result like this after 6.1.3 (4S):

Sorry to say but I could just get a day out of my phone now just over half a day same use on phone but by 2 pm it's plug in time it a joke

Battery is definitely worse on my iPhone 5S, compared to 7.1 beta 5. Actually battery life was consistently good from the beginning (with iOS 7.0.1) and now, with 7.1 it got much worse. Even reseting all settings didn't help...

So here we were, waiting desperately for months on end for Apple to fix the poor iOS7 battery drain (compared to iOS6), and then they release an update which makes it even worse.
Way to go Apple!

Unfortunately I will have to agree.
To be honest, at this point I don't care anymore about new shiny features, or how big the iPhone 6 will be. If Apple manages to give us two day battery life, then I will be happy.
Currently I am disappointed from iOS 7

Well, designing a bloated and extremely power hungry new operating system wasn't the best way of achieving the goal of longer battery life.
Unless Apple put a huge battery in the iPhone 6, I doubt we'll see any improvements in that regard.

Sadly, Apple seem obsessed with making handsets lighter and thinner, plus they appear to think that equalling a previous handset's battery performance is some kind of achievement! iOS7 has given me the worst battery life of any iPhone I've owned, dating back six years. That's advancement!

I re calibrated my battery last night. Will see how it works over the next few days.

As I was draining power by watching video yesterday, I noticed again that the % indicator was inconsistent. It would sometimes lose 2-3% in a shorter than usual space of time.

Posted this elsewhere, but relevant here too -

My initial beliefs into Photo Stream (system daemon mstreamd) causing battery drain seems to be correct.

After properly disabling it, my phone sat idle for nearly 10 hours without dropping to 99% - usually it does this.

I can't explain the 28 minutes of phantom usage though (my iPhone was completely untouched since the first and second photos were taken), but it's better than before where mstreamd would restart on loop thousands of times.

I really recommend people test this themselves though... unplug at 100%, and either make a note of, or screenshot the usage page... and compare the numbers after you wake up...

I'll test again tonight with the battery slightly used, and see how much % I lose that way (since the first 1% seems to drain slower)... BUT, I can tell you before fixing the mstreamd daemon problem my iPhone lost about 5% overnight from 100% - which is crazy when you factor in the first 1%.

Just to add - before fixing the mstreamd daemon, my phone was adding around 12 minutes of phantom usage an hour... so you guys just blindly claiming your battery is good based on the arbitrary figure of "usage" should question how much you ACTUALLY used your phone during the day

Last Update

Here is my last update I will post about.
I got excellent battery results on my 2nd full charge since doing a restore and reloading 7.1 I also turned off apps refresh in background. These results are from using the phone to 1%

Usage: 8 hrs 16 mins
Standby: 1 day 12 hrs

I think a lot also has to do with Apple putting in a new battery for me, iphone 5. I'm really happy with these results, using the phone as I normally do.

My battery seems better now on my 5s, first I turned off background refresh for all apps and ran it down until it shut off. Charged overnight and when I unplugged it it dropped to 95% right away. Hard reset the phone immediately and then it read 100% after restarting. Battery life seems more normal now, but I will have to give it another day to know for sure.

Yikes so staying on beta 2 (jailbreak aside which is a HUGE DEAL for me) was a wise choice then huh?

My 5S lasts a lot longer now. Normally I have Bria running to connect me to our office SIP system and it burns through the battery by lunch but now it's going all day and still around 45% by the end of the day.
