Gee, and to think I was accused of just spewing hot air the last few days...

iOS 7.1 may have only been released this week, but it’s already got it’s own “gate”-worthy issue: battery life is abysmal. Reports on Twitter and Apple’s support discussion forums indicate that users are seeing significant drain on their batteries after installing the new update.
Yes you were and are spewing hot air... Did you bother to read user comments to that doubtious article? Most users disagree.
Personally I haven't noticed any decrease or increase in the battery performance on my 5s and iPad Air after 7.1 update - I was happy before and I'm just as happy now.

Is not it more prudent to wait for awhile to determine what effect 7.1 has impacted battery life?

The battery life on my Air is phenomonal but is has only been a full cycles. Should I have Apple report this to folks not getting good results? Nope, too soon.

I wouldn't put much trust in "usage" on the battery stats page.

The "usage" just goes up by itself in Standby... it is FAR from being a reliable indicator of battery life

Did OTA updates for my 5s and iPad mini retina when 7.1 went live. The 5s has been about the same as it was on 7.0.x. I also keep all location items and BT on all the time.

iPad mini haven't used it enough yet but I've always had great battery life.

Much better than it was on 7.0.6:

I know, but still ways better than 7.0.6 where after 8 hours of idle tge battery dropped down to 90%

for me it's given new breath into my iPhone 4 - better overall performance (in terms of "snapiness"), and better battery time.

Do note I only lightly use the phone anyway - I'm in good signal areas >95% of the day, usually with Wifi, and a few hours of talk time. For the past few days though, I've noticed that at the end of the day (when I plug the phone in to charge), battery is usually in the 20-25% area, whereas it used to be around 10% previously.

Seriously though... can't complain either way, it does the job I need it for just fine either way :)

It's quite strange.
Battery life sustained much longer than before (7.0.6) on my iPod touch 5.
But on my iphone 5, the battery drained much faster compared to the previous version :S

I wanted to report back that after I did a full restore through iTunes and loaded iOS 7.1 back, I can tell my battery got better results. I also almost completely got rid of the OTHER data, down to only 800 MB instead of 5 GB.

Before I restored I was getting:
Usage: 5 hrs 25 mins
Standby: 19 hrs 42 min

After restore through iTunes this is what I got on my first full charge:

Usage: 6 hrs 30 min
Standby: 1 day 0 hrs

Today's so far at 70% battery left
U: 2 hrs 36 mins
S: 9 hrs 4 mins.

So I'm looking to get closer to 7 hrs on my 2nd charge. This is with location serv turned off, apps background refresh off. I think anything over 7 hrs a day is pretty good for a new iOS.

Still I think Apple needs to give us 10 hrs a day with all features turned on.

Anyone good at debugging/developing - are you noticing any issues with mstreamd (Photo Stream). Even disabled I am noticing it restart on a constant loop, and it effectively prevents the device from sleeping properly.

Its always at the top of my processes.

I can see dips in battery life as a result of new features or buggy software. But, I wouldn't expect significantly better battery life from just a mere software update.

Battery shut down at 14%. This is something that's been happening to me and many others since iOS 7. It never happened in iOS 6 or 5.

There is no way that Apple isn't aware of this. Of all their employees, engineers and designers, this hasn't ever happened to any of them? Maybe it's even happened to Ive, but he's more interested in trying to "wow" people with his pretentious designs.

I can't believe how many bugs this o/s still has. If 7.0 was released like this I would have been disappointed but this is 7.1, six whole months later!! Doesn't Apple test these software updates before releasing them??? What's the point of BETAs and inhouse testing if no reported bugs get fixed? I am beyond frustrated.

My phone was shutting down anywhere between 10-20% but mine was doing it on iOS6 and also on iOS7 so I took it to genius bar and they hooked up phone and it showed needing repair of battery, tech said it had to be severe to show on their system, bought my iphone 5 new it was 1 yr 4 months old. So I had them install new battery. It's been a week and no more shutdown's and battery is giving me 7-8 hrs of usage now (after I did a full restore of iOS 7.1) and goes down to 1% every time now. I'll buy iphone 6 but only if it's bigger screen and I won't buy first month usually wait 3 or 4 months in.

After 2 days on 7.1, my battery life seems about the same, based on the Usage info in the settings app.

However, the % indicator seems slightly less consistent. It will take awhile to lose 1% during use, but then lose subsequent % faster. I haven't re calibrated in awhile so I might try that.

I have a 64GB iPhone 5s. I updated to 7.1 OTA soon after it was released on Monday. My battery drain was really bad for a few days but as of yesterday (Friday) it seems to be back to the way it was with 7.0.

I think at least part of the reason for the big battery drain on Monday was soon after I updated I was playing around with the phone way more than usual to check out 7.1.
