No I used my phone just the same back then, as I do now. How is 10 hours of usage not using my phone?
Keeping the phone in one location perhaps on WiFi only and using it occasionally only for small things and/or just basic things like playing music--can fairly easily get to 10 hours of usage, but that kind of usage isn't very typical usage for most by far.

Performed a clean install and my phone lasted about 8 hours yesterday. Today I noticed that home sharing was on so I signed out and I got over 10 hours. Anecdotal, but still.

yeah since I am laid off right now i am using mainly wifi in my house.

Right now I am at 2 hours and 48 mins of usage and 8 hours 25 mins of standby and I am at 35%.

I have tried doing a fresh install and even redownloaded all my apps manually from the app store just to make sure none of them were corrupt on my back up.

Now its on 17% with just some texting. And its only been half an hour.

Location services are killing my 5s battery now. At work I get no signal due to our building, phone would start at 97% and go down to 80% with some light music use, not in airplane mode. Now it drains to 50% with no use, constantly searching for signal and location, with the same settings as 7.0.6. It's acting like my old android phone that would drain when not in airplane mode.

Why would it be searching for location? As for searching for service, that alone will kill the battery quick. Seems like you might want to use airplane mode since you aren't getting reception anyway.

The location icon is constantly on when there is no signal now. I'm now using airplane mode, but my point was I didn't have to before.

I turned off battery percentage many weeks ago, so 7.1 seems the same as 7.0 and 7.06, etc. My battery lasts through the day and I charge it at night. I haven't had the need to check my usage and battery percentage multiple times daily. I am telling you, turning off the percentage makes all the battery problems go away.

Same. I turned mine off years ago... used to obsess over battery life for no good reason... now I just use it, and don't care about it.

Sometimes I check out "usage" just to see... usually around 5-6 hours of real usage.

Just checked now... 3 hours 30 minutes at 40%... so looks "on course" so to speak for what I usually get.

Numbers aside... it's lasted me the day and more, so that's good enough.

iPhone 4 by the way - and this thing has a pretty thrashed battery!

Edit: I used to also do a "clean install" expecting to get better battery, but this time I just can't be bothered... seems to have had no impact.

2nd Full Charge Results since 7.1

Usage 5 hrs 25 mins
Standby 19 hrs 42 mins

This is down about 1 hr usage from yesterday, using the phone the same.

I've decided to do a full restore, keeping an eye on this one.

P.S. Apple, we should not have to turn off all the features on our iphone to get 5 or 6 hrs of battery, how about make a battery that gets 10 hrs WITH all the features turned ON...this seems like such a simple request. Instead I have to turn off all the great features of this phone just to squeeze 5 or 6 hrs of usage. Is anyone listening?

I did OTA update, 5 hr 40 min usage, 14 hours standby and 47% battery left. Lot of push notifications and Good email client used. Some calls.

Here's my third full charge on 7.1 on my 5s. It hasn't been as good as 7.0.x on any of my three charges so I'm gonna do a clean install and see if I notice a difference.

The only good thing about doing a restore is it gets rid of that "Other" I use to have over 5 GB of Other it is now down to only 855 MB of Other so I have more free space.

Unless you're playing games or using gps for long stretches, that's dreadful battery life for a 5S.

Nope no games. I was in a borderline 3G/LTE signal area for 2 hours this morning where it drained about 8% over 2 hours. But for the rest of the day I was in strong signal area. I was also listening Spotify while driving for about an hour which "boosts" the usage time.

I definitely would agree it's pretty bad for a 5s.

iOS7 appears to be very power hungry, so I would avoid OTA updates to try and scrape clean an install as possible.

Would you recommend setting up as a new iPhone or restoring from an iCloud backup? I don't like losing my photos and texts so usually I'll restore from iCloud as I feel it almost like setting up as new since it redownloads all the apps.

Set up as a new phone but then select to restore from iCloud afterwards. Then delete all your email accounts, re-input them, reset network settings, input your WiFi password again and you're good to go. Some would recommend to not restore any data but like you say it's far too restrictive.

Thanks for the response, I'll do that and if that fails then I'll start from complete scratch.

Before I did a secure erase/restore, my iP5 was draining itself during standby, probably at a rate of about 10%/hr.

Now, on this charge, I've got 1 day, 7 hours on standby, and 1 hr, 6 min usage (only periodic surfing/email checks since I had the day off), and the battery is at 85%.

My guesstimate is that it's probably about the same as 7.0x.
