Not that it really matters, but holy cow, 20 years?! I remember signing up soooo long ago, it feels like a different lifetime ago. This site was fledgling at the time. I was curious if there any other members who've been here this long?
WHOA! What was your original username?????????

What was every old-timer’s original usernames? There appears to be a few of you. Ratspg?????
Just curious, because I have been here for (almost) 20 years, but posted often enough to interact with nearly every MR member at some point!!

Even attended a small MR Meetup, though never made the big London ones at Regent Park… 😔

I lurked (every day…) for roughly 1.5 years before joining, which was mostly because I had never joined a forum before.

Same username since day one. Never changed it.

A lot of the right-from-the-beginning old-timers have left MR over the years for various reasons, so I think there probably is less user name changing than has been suggested here. Also, maybe some members haven't been as prolific when it comes to posting or they posted in just certain areas so that they maybe weren't seen as frequently or at all by other members.

Joined in January 2003, but probably was viewing the MacRumors Forums a little before that without posting.

Got my first Mac at the beginning of Sophomore year of High School in September 2002, with the launch of Mac OS X 10.2. Some of my earliest posts on MacRumors are about trading my Mirrored Drive Door PowerMac G4 (dual 867 MHz CPUs) for a PowerBook G4 12" (single 867 MHz CPU).

What drew me into Macs was first having an iPod that I used on Windows XP. This was before iTunes came out on Windows, and I think the syncing software I used was called EphPod. Mac OS X was still maturing then, as CD burning I believe was only introduced in Mac OS X 10.1 a year or so before.

Mac OS X 10.2 was when iChat (now Messages) first came out, and AIM was all the rage for high schoolers like myself (before texting of course). Was, and still am, a big music fan and the iPod/iTunes combo was much better than my hack job of Winamp/CD Ripper App/EphPod on PC. There was also iPhoto back then, although I didn't own a digital camera till many years later, looking back at my Photos history. iMovie was a great to thing to have available on the Mac too. Firewire baby!

I remember using iSync, which was the original method to sync the Address Book app (now Contacts) to a mobile phone. I'm sure there are some of my Contacts (vCards) that originated from there!

All of this Mac OS X stuff was just way cooler than what was happening on Windows XP. The Mac platform was a multimedia powerhouse (video, photos, music, etc) before the iPhone came along and melded all those devices together. "Switching" to Mac helped me form the career in IT that I have today. I became an expert at helping Windows users migrate data to Mac and vice versa. I love reformatting and viewing personal data as something that can be separated from the machine (if you know where it all lives).

I wouldn't count myself in the oldtimer league, but I'll relate one thing. With the exception of one or two forums that are extremely niche interests, if you search for my username you'll find me. My username is the same across forums and reddit and that was intentional for me from the start. I wanted to make myself easy to find by others, I didn't want to be accused of hiding behind multiple usernames and it's just f*ing easier to remember. I'm not going through a mental Rolodex of usernames based on the forum I'm on.

I did leave Reddit once though, so there's a '2' attached to my username there now. ;)

I think it used to be easy to change usernames, but that was before they migrated the website.

LOL, yes, I know you mostly from the Digital Photography forum back in 2007 or something. Probably posted there for 3 years before my posting slowed down.

I think iGary (or maybe it was someone else?) used to start the monthly themed photo thread to encourage people to shoot more each month.

Which migration?

I've been here since 2011 and the forum has migrated three times during the last 11 years. Based on that, I have no doubt there were other migrations long before I showed up.

Yep! I participated in the Digital Photography forum back then and after a while took a hiatus from photography and didn't shoot very much at all. In 2018 I got back into it and now I'm definitely a regular again on that forum. :). I do remember you from the earlier time! Come back when you're in the mood for shooting photos again.....

Just over 10 years a member here. I think it was a few months before that I lurked before taking the plunge.
This was the first forum I joined and I love the different areas of interest there are on the site. But I’ve also made good friends on here. People I talk to everyday. Apart from Mrs AFB and people I work with, I don’t really do that in the real world even.
Here’s to the next 10 years.

That's awesome. I think I'm at 9 years.
👋🏻 We will hit our 10-year distinctive mark next year.

I discovered MacRumors back in 2009, right after graduating from High School. Back in 2009, I was a regular visitor with no registered account because I was too shy and scared. Scared of people judging me. I remember visiting this site, reading articles/comments, and leaving.

In 2013, I finally pushed myself and had the courage to create an account. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. Cheers! ✨🍾🥂

Congrats. I think I've been here for about a year now. I wish there was an android equivilant to this forum, but I still use a Mac and Apple TV and I own Apple stock. Apple seems to really be the kings of this industry so whatever they do, the competitors aren't that far behind.
