Congrats. I think I've been here for about a year now. I wish there was an android equivilant to this forum, but I still use a Mac and Apple TV and I own Apple stock. Apple seems to really be the kings of this industry so whatever they do, the competitors aren't that far behind.

Evidently I have been here over 2 years. Time flies. It really does feel like 2020 and 2021 just blended together.

WHOA! What was your original username?????????

What was every old-timer’s original usernames? There appears to be a few of you. Ratspg?????
Just curious, because I have been here for (almost) 20 years, but posted often enough to interact with nearly every MR member at some point!!

Even attended a small MR Meetup, though never made the big London ones at Regent Park… 😔

I lurked (every day…) for roughly 1.5 years before joining, which was mostly because I had never joined a forum before.
I used my real name for years. Changed it to be the same as it is on every other forum around the globe that I use.
I'm either Handsomedan or HandsomedanNZ everywhere.

They would probably have to correlate with a major Apple event and since they are all at Apple Park now it might be difficult.

I miss the days of Apple at CES, MacWorld, etc.
I think they happened at Regent’s Park in London.

I don’t recognize anyone here who would have attended. Skunk still posts, and he was there. I didn’t attend because I was a student who couldn’t afford the flight! 😫

We did have one in Toronto. There were only 4 of us. 😅 Lee Kohler was one of them! Had a great time.

I remember people discussing their meetups, and indeed at least a couple of times they met in London -- sounded like a lot of fun! I only went to one MacWorld, in 2006, but at that time was still a new Mac user and although I was a member on here by then, again I was still new and was still getting to know the scene. I have met one other MR member, though -- a local in my area, and it was also around that time frame, too. Haven't seen him in a long time, either on here or in person, though.

Yeah, these London meetups probably happened from 2003-2006 each year, and 12-20 people would meet up. I can’t remember everyone who would have gone, but skunk, edesignuk, iBlue, Blue Velvet, and…I don’t remember.

It was so long ago, Arn was still “Dr Arnold Kim”, MD. MacRumors was still his hobby. 😂

Dec. 26, 2006 for me. Was mostly tuned to the PRSI forum over the years until it was closed. I still check in to MR for the news and community forums nearly every day.

15 years for me. Lost access to my old account. I really enjoy the debates as long as they're done in fun in the forums.

I actually worked with another user at trying to create an Apple-focused startup to compete, but we ultimately decided it wasn't worth it around 2009. Now, I surely wish we would have. This site is a force. Not the best information but it's one place to get most of the information. So they do a good job pooling all the resources from the Internet. A lot of the stuff is just written to make money or articles they know will get clicks. I get so many advertisements for Samsung stuff on this website. And I am a hardcore Apple user.

I think around 2008 I've been here on this account. But I'm pretty sure I had an account around 2003 when I got my Ti PowerBook. I then forgot the login name and password as I didn't use it for several years. I tried a fair few combos to login but was never able to remember as my email at that time was no longer in use (Service Provider I no longer used) so I made a new account. Just like @HandsomeDanNZ

The site has grown massively in that time.
The good: MRs getting rid of the sensitive forums.
The bad: MRs allowing politics in the signature.
The funny: Getting a warning or a short holiday for telling other forum members that in Japan February has 30 days* without any hint of sarcasm... and fooling somebody.

I also like Dan the video man. He's obviously an affable guy and that comes across in his videos. He's far better than Matt G who was his predecessor. Matt also came across as a good guy, but his videos left a lot to be desired.

*Or something to that effect. My mind is rather forgetful as is evidenced in the first paragraph.

hey there!

13 years here. been a ghost lately though.
May I cordially and sincerely return that greeting of "hey there".

Terrific to "see" you here again, as we haven't crossed online paths in an absolute age.

In any case, I truly hope you are keeping well in these (as the well known and oft quoted Chinese - curse, or blessing - saying expresses it) "interesting times".

So close! 20 years anniversary coming up soon.... do we get a gift or something? 🤣

MR did organize unofficial ones before Macworld.

Years before MR.... I had been a regular on one of the largest Apple/Mac-topic chat channels on IRC. Does anyone even remember what IRC was? LOL.

It was a wild west, because IRC channels were hard (actually impossible) to moderate. You had a steady stream of disrupters and trouble makers coming and going.

Nevertheless, the core regulars on that channel started doing annual meetups during the late 1990s-early 2000s Macworld Expo. I attended one of them, and it was a blast! Some of the members I met were Europeans. I remember we met during the Macworld SF (when Steve Jobs was still around)... and then decided to reserve a huge table for dinner in a Chinese restaurant.... in San Francisco Chinatown.

Wonderful meal. Great meetup. A big group of people (around 15 of us), coming from 3 continents, and we all had vastly different backgrounds and careers. The only thing we had in common? We were die-hard Apple fans.

Internet Relay Chat. Yes, I remember it - but I never used it. My start at being online was the BBS and once I got past dialup for the internet, forums. Quark had internet forums in 2000 and since my job revolved around QuarkXPress I was mainly involved in that forum until about 2011 - when I joined here.

I remember Yahoo Chat was pretty popular back in the early 2000s.

I hung out on Usenet for a while, which was my introduction to forums -- like IRC, which I had heard of but never actually participated in -- another offshoot of the Wild West, since there were no moderators. Longer-time members quickly indoctrinated newbies into the mysteries of "Netiquette" and chided those who didn't follow "the rules." Nonetheless flamewars erupted anyway and people let loose with whatever was on their minds. Interesting times.....
