As I said, it wasn't a network issue.

Actually, it was a network issue with the original iPhone, as GSM 2G doesn't pause data for an incoming call.

While the current Verizon CDMA setup doesn't have simultanous voice + data, this is also its strength, as an overload on one does not affect the other as it can and does with AT&T's 3G.

This is partly why CDMA users don't miss it too much (I'm sure some do), because it also means that they've always had reliable voice or data connections, which is important to many.

Now use your brain a little and think why we "AT&T users" have this feature would want to go back to not having it ? Yup, use your brain a little.

Lol :D
I guess the millions of AT&T users will disagree with the millions of Verizon subscribers and would not be a feature they'd want to lose.

The hype is that IF the iphone does go to Verizon, the iphone will be finally used on the best network. No dropped calls, no bad reception...

You really believe this?
The best network and no dropped calls and no bad reception? You buy a little too much into the Verizon "can you hear me now" ads I see.
Verizon is bad at certain areas and good at others just like every wireless provider in the world.

I think this is the point that everyone misses in this flame war. It's more about where you are and what network you are on as opposed to just the phone. Many people complain about their AT&T service because they are not in a good signal area OR their signal area is inundated with callers. But I also know of plenty of people who complain about their Verizon coverage. The point is that you should shop coverage first and phone second.

As for simultaneous voce and data, I use it quite a bit. If it's not a feature you use or need, then it gets crossed off of the list of considerations for you. But let's not pretend that it's indispensable for those who don't use it or unnecessary for those who do.

What I think will be interesting is to see how the Verizon users who go to an iPhone (assuming there is one) feel about Verizon after 8-12 months of iPhone use on their network.

Yes, I do believe that, because I have first hand experiences with both networks.

As someone already mentioned it mainly depends on where you are located. I live in NY metro area.
However its pretty clear that Verizon network is superior over At&T... based on customer survey from consumer reports...
And I don't want to hear that consumer reports is rubbish because when they reported that iphone was the best smart phone in the market, everyone here praised Consumer reports for it... At least try to be non-biased.

Your scenario goes like this with ATT here:

Christmas, 2010
Location - U Village, Seattle, WA
Situation - I'm Christmas shopping with my GF. We split up to make looking for presents a little easier, we both had to get each other something, so it was better.

*ring**ring**ring**ring**ring**ring*

"Hey babe, call me back..."

*ring**ring**ring**ring**ring**ring*

"Hey babe, answer the dang phone..."

Damn fool boyfriend.

Hi, Biff, could you help me decide ...

Cute? Thanks, you look cute too.

No, we broke up. Communication problems.

My digits, sure ...

People make phone calls on a smartphone? haha. If not being able to go on the internet while you talk is stopping you from buying the phone then you have some serious issues.

That's what I said. It depends on your location.
I have first hand experiences also and in my case AT&T has better signal, less dropped calls and way faster data speeds.
Consumer reports and surveys mean what to me? If the area I reside or mostly use my phone at is solid then do I care if verizon has better coverage in Wyoming or South Dakota?

Geez, I'm getting tired of this. For as much as I'd love an iPhone, I'm not going to leave Verizon. Now with my current phone in need of a refresh I guess it's time to get serious about looking at Android.
