I've stopped having hope. But if it is true, what do I want with a gift card for digital goods.
I rip from cd's. I don't think I can play the itunes music format on my droid x anyways.
There are no apps I know of that I need.
I am really picky about what games I play. I actually prefer playing on my ps3 since mac gaming isn't great (with a few exceptions like SC2 and WOW).
I will be doing more video, picture, and garage band stuff with the new imac but am not sure if I want to upgrade either one. If I did upgrade one it would be iMovie first.

Modern warfare 1 was just released on Mac? Empires at war is still a $30 game? Am I missing something? (Ya I know, there's bootcamp.)

So feel free to tell me why I should be excited.

Sell it on ebay. That is my plan. I would rather have say $70 back than pay for a bunch of compressed music on itunes. It better be an actual gift card too and not a credit under your user ID where it can't be sold. I will be pissed.

I'm going to assume you're from the United States of America like I am.

A statement like this is one reason why people throughout the rest of the world think that we from the USA are so stupid.

Ok, I'm going to have to agree here. :p

It amuses me that a good portion of the people on this forum would rather flame than inform. And take things way too seriously.

My point is I have found nothing good on the mac store. Show me a specific product that you think is good. And no, I have not read anywhere that says it is a gift card.

And yes, I hate reading fiction. Too many other current issues going on in the world I would rather read about.

And for anyone interested. It's official.

I think people are disappointed because Apple is breaking a multi-year tradition; people had a reasonable expectation for a free iPod.

But a free gift is still a free gift, however disappointing it may be.

EDIT: I wonder if it'll be a physical card, or will it be tied to your iTunes account, which would mean you couldn't pass it to anyone else, I think. Maybe?

Ordered mine....I guess it was worth it because we will get Lion for free and maybe some money back from selling the gift card....still feel a little empty because I was waiting so long for a free ipod that didn't come.

I agree with what you said about people being disappointed, well at least for people that had reasonable expectations about the promotion. Unfortunately, there were countless people that had unrealistic expectations from this, including a discount on an iPad. Many of these people instantly went into panic mode instead of setting aside their emotions and perhaps seeing the larger picture. All of them are more than welcome to buy an overpriced Windows box just to get the free Xbox (of course they still have to pay for games and Live, who woulda thought?) and miss out on the joys of OS X.

The card is a physical card that will ship within a day after the Mac ships, according to my order confirmation.

I ordered mine this afternoon as well. At this point, we get Lion for free and that frees you up to use the card any way you want. I don't feel as "empty" as you do about not getting the free/discounted iPod because I was planning on selling the one I got; I all ready have a 32GB iPhone 4 for those needs. Though I would have preferred receiving an Apple Gift Card that I could use for any future purchases I will make through Apple but the App Store gift card is just fine with me. I'll definitely be using it to buy a bunch of apps. The most important aspect of this is that I'm finally getting my BTO 27" iMac :D.

how far back Mac purchases can go, so that you still eligible to get this promotion?
