Of course, but not simply because people are still in school as you or someone else stated. Students were in school in all years past which hasn't changed. Your comparison really doesn't make sense.

Well, obviously they have decided to make a change to the usual promotion. I think he was just speculating. June 1 does seem to be about the earliest "back to school" promotion of any company I have ever heard of.

At this point we don't have any idea if it is delayed, going to be changed significantly, or just not run. I would guess changed somewhat and run in the summer, not the spring and summer.

Good news

They took down the 'last chance to save' silliness. So should be any moment to the new chance to get a free iPod Touch. I spoke to a genius and he said what we already know. That they've been running the promotion for the past 10 years or so. There's no reason for it to be discontinued. (though of course it could as they don't tell anyone anything in advance)

And also he said it was a big boost in sales for Apple (which I didn't know/assume)

Sure, my comparison makes a lot of sense, well at least to me. I'm sure that another person might see where I was going with it. Using that thing in between your ears isn't always easy for many people.

Look, the point that I was trying to make is that Apple has been making a lot of changes to their benefit lately. In the past, a lot of these changes were predictable at times. However, recently they have become very unpredictable as we have seen with the lack of a BTS promotion during the expected timeframe and a lack of announcement of new iPhone hardware at WWDC.

To be fair we are historically only just outside of the time frame for the BTS promotion. Considering WWDC this year and such like it's conceivable that it has just got slightly shunted a little later. However, if we don't see it kick between Tuesday 14th and Tuesday 21st June then it seems Apple may not be running the promotion this year or have indeed shifted it around.

The BTS promotion is not a guarantee, so people getting a little testy that it hasn't happened yet or bemoaning the fact that Apple haven't issued a statement saying they wont be running it are a bit off mark. If it happens then all well and good (I sincerely hope it does), if not then at least I've got my education discount and Lion for free.

I agree with the PP, Apple just does not announce things ahead of time. That is why there are so many Mac/ Apple rumor sites. It is part of what makes being an Apple fan fun. You never know what is around the corner.

Having said that I keep on checking here for insider info. I need a new iMac, my MacBook Pro is on its last leg (my 2 year old dropped it and it will not close). And yes, we are eligible for the B2S promotion.

I don't get it. Just because the Macbook Air is getting a refresh now everyone is figuring the BTS promotion is starting too? Sounds more like wishful thinking than an actual source verifying the information.

Personally I think its the back to school sale more than I think its the air refresh. But no one really knows for sure. There are rumors that it could be both. Only a few days away...

I'm convinced that Jobs is watching this board and playing with us. He leaked something to give us hope, just to hear the crinkling sound of our hearts being crushed once again.

Alongside Air refresh

Makes total now that they were simply waiting for the Airs to be ready prior to launching the promo. Perfect college laptop.

And now this reliable source  linked above states it's not Macbook Airs on there way for Wednesday; it is unlocked iPhones. Then goes on to tweet that unlocked iPhones have never been available in the US at Apple stores. Sounds like this guy has no clue about anything and you would be dumb to believe anything he types.

there might be a macbook air release

that way apple may think that more college students will buy the macbook air so they can sell more becuase it comes with a free ipod. If i wanted a mac laptop, obviously the macbook pro would be my first choice.

Since it has not been announced yet.. No, not yet.

I'm hoping that it is just an alternative to an iPod.. Otherwise I've wasted a month... :(

Yup. Me too. Looks like I'll just toss the iTunes card on eBay and see what I can get for it. I'm expecting that I could get around $90-$95.

Really disappointed they're getting rid of the iPod promotion but who am I to complain about something that's free?

I just bought 3 $100 gift cards at BB for the 15% so I could purchase FCP X. Now it looks like I'll have to unload one of them if this rumor is true (and it seems likely from a business perspective). Is E-Bay the best place to go?
