I'd like swimming exercises, since I don't have a pool it's a not a good reason. I'll never run without my phone so the GPS isn't a big deal for me.

I'd like the S2, but for weather, notifications, water tracking, and my activity rings the S1 is sufficient.

I caught a sale about two weeks ago and snagged a black stainless steel brand new for $350 plus student discount. I can't justify returning it and paying $200 more for a gps and water resistance. And I have no issues seeing my watch in sunlight so the brightness isn't a big deal for me. I'll wait for series 3 when there is potential for cellular radio or battery improvement. :)

I was considering buying a Garmin 735xt, but now I'm having 2nd thoughts. One of the features I liked was it's ability to track swimming. AW S2, now does this.

I wasn't bothered about AW having GPS, as I run with my phone anyway, and I've given up on the AW's run metrics, as there is a significant discrepancy between the pace it displays and that on my iphone apps (which use the phone's GPS). But it looks like they have runners in mind for the new watch. I will explore the new running apps in OS2 with interest.

Not. As mentioned before not enough new features to make me upgrade. Apple needs to have an upgrade program for the watch. If so, then I'd be in.
I would love that idea.

Shouldn't this be a poll?

I'm not going to upgrade... at least not for now. I'm just looking forward to Watch OS3. My current AWS meets my needs. If reports after a few months show some clear benefits to the newer version I might reconsider. I wouldn't mind a brighter display, or upgrading from a Sport to a SS, but I need to save my money for more other things at the moment.

No. Will for 3rd gen. Would like the display to expand a bit to use more of the square area that's available.

I'm taking a wait and see to see for now. Hard to justify at this point. I welcome GPS but needs more to compete with real running watches. The Nike edition is a joke in that regard. It can't replace my Garmin 620 from what I see so far. But if it can load apps faster it could pique my interest. Just not willing to bite yet.
We're on the same page, I think. But if the speed and presumed increased battery life seem worth it, I could see biting the bullet for a SS (maybe with the link bracelet) and using it for non-running activities. I still find the combination of a Garmin for running/cycling, and the AW for daily wear, the best of both worlds for me. But I think I'll likely wait until the reviews are in before deciding whether to attempt SS (again), play it safe/cheap with Aluminum, or just skip it.

FWIW, really enjoying my 735XT. I've had no issues with GPS or HR so far. Easily my favorite of all the Garmins I've owned.

Nope, not upgrading mine. I'm not a big swimmer so the waterproofing isn't really of any interest (it seems pretty waterproof as it is anyway) and always have my phone if I go for a walk or run so don't really need GPS either. Faster and brighter screen sound great, but not worth the amount it would cost.

I'll upgrade when the 'Series 0' I own either gets too slow for general use, or when they make it a bit thinner or have an always-on time option. Raise to Wake usually works, but I would like to be able to glance at my wrist to see the time without moving it. Even if it was a tiny digital clock, that would be enough.

I'm sure it's a great upgrade for some people, but it definitely depends on your use cases.

Honestly, I will probably keep my 1st gen and also give the Pebble Time 2 a try. There are times when I still miss my Pebble Steel model.

I would be amazed if the AW tracks and reports swimming with the same level of sophistication as a 735XT. At least, I would not bet on it for at least another couple years. Test it and see.

Swimming with a Garmin helped me speed up a lot. Within workouts, I can capture splits and rests during my intervals pretty easily. Seeing my lap and interval splits with the rests omitted is huge. The AW would have to use the side buttons for this, if is even possible. When I am done with a workout, I look at strokes per length, strokes per minute, SWOLF, pace (minuts per 100yd), within each interval and overall to judge performance gains. And, when I do an open water swim, the Garmin is pretty freakin' accurate with GPS. Apple would need to build a web interface for all of this, because studying this in a mobile app is not that easy, especially when you want to compare workouts.

My dumb analogy is that Apple Watch is to Garmin 735XT for swim, bike, and run fitness tracking as Honda Accord is to Ferrari SF16-H Formula One. The Apple will reliably get you by in most circumstances as a basic performer. The Garmin is best in the world and will help you get to the best you can be.

exxxviii - I think we've discussed this before my friend.

I'm glad to hear it's helping you improve.

I think you're probably right about the Garmin being better, but I'll wait and see some more reviews.

Definitely, I just couldn't help the opportunity to express how good the 735XT really is. The swim tracking is some dark magic that will truly blow your mind when you use it. And to my knowledge, of all the other products on the market, only Garmin is doing it well. Apple can get there, because it is only software. But, it may take a few generations through the OS to perfect it. If you suffer from Adult Onset Swimming, like I do, do not skimp on a swimming watch. Div 1 swimmers can get by using just a pool clock and be happy.

I have no use for GPS nor swim/shower with my AW so not upgrading. Also heard that wOS 3 breathes new life into the original AW.

I did order the Jet Black iPhone 7 for launch day delivery though.

Hopefully someone sees this - What should I do?

$200 for the Series 0 Stainless Steel w/ Brown Leather band (not loop, also w/ 2 knockoff sport bands) - 42mm
$380 for the Series 2 Aluminum w/ Sport Band - 38/42mm

What would you do? I do run a lot... but I already have a GPS watch that, while not fancy like an AW, does work just fine.

Any thoughts?

Now that just makes me want to get a 735XT even more ...

I need to check Amazon again.

After the announcement, I decided not to upgrade my SS. I'll see if the performance is any better, or worse, with watchOS3. Better water resistance is nice, but I would still hesitate to swim with the Series 2. (Hopefully, reviews and people's experiences over time will alleviate my concern.)

However, the wife wanted one, and so we pre-ordered a Series 2 in 38mm Gold Aluminum for her. I'm slightly envious.

You're going to want the faster processor sooner or later. I have high hopes for OS3 and my AW, but if I were buying one now, I'd go for series 2.

Nice avatar, MJedi.

I think the gold aluminium looks brilliant. I think you're AW envy is going to get worse.

You sort of answered my question from a few posts above...

Ah just saw this.... Faster processor I forgot about. But I thought Watch OS 3 brought the Watch "back to life"?

It's all about the budget... Is the S0 SS used? Given you run with a GPS watch, then I would ignore the GPS and fitness features. So, it comes to style and speed. If you like the look of the SS, go with it. If you are budget-constrained, go with the SS. If you want the fastest and latest tech, get the S2.

I might have traded up, but since Apple won't take trade in on their watches and I don't want to go through the hassle of selling it elsewhere, I'll wait till this one gives out. I have the OS3 on it and it runs fine.

I will not be upgrading. While the prospect of having a waterproof unit is enticing, I don't believe that it is worth the price of admission. I am looking forward to getting the WatchOS3...

Used, but in good condition. I think I'm going to go with it. I don't use the GPS on half my runs anyway, since I prefer to run by feel (old habit from college). Thanks!

No upgrade for me. Maybe if I was a swimmer.

The only thing I like is the brighter screen. Maybe I'd bite if it was better looking instead of both thicker and heavier; or had better battery life (not a huge deal breaker but 1 day use isn't great). But the real things I want to see are more software related, yet not implemented. No always-on option. No custom watch faces. No pairing with multiple phones.

Given that I'm generally an Apple fan like others in this forum, I don't think things are going to bode well. Sadly, I'm similarly unimpressed with new the iPhone 7 features.

I'm not, actually I just went for first gen space grey /w nylon woven band, snapped it up for £170, could have gotten it for cheaper if I waited, but it's still cheaper and it has AppleCare+ until 2018.

I am a bit torn. On the surface, I don't need GPS or swimming (nice to have but not going to impact me on a day to day basis). I am thinking long term though, will the first gen, S0, watch be sufficient to use for another 18-24 months. This is assuming apple does not upgrade the watch every year, that means waiting until 2018 for the 3rd generation. While watchOS 3 runs great on the S0 version, will watchOS 4 and potentially 5 continue to do so?

Lots of unknowns has me pretty undecided.
