How much did you pay for that on eBay?

$250 for a Verizon line. Small price to pay considering that people are paying over $600 for an unlimited ATT iPad SIM. The ease of mind + the idea that I can use this as my primary internet connection is well worth it. Those who got grandfathered into their unlimited data accounts long ago when the ipad was first released are lucky SOBs.

I just bought an AT&T model from BB. Going to return my wifi to Target tomorrow.

i did and have no regret. bought an unlimited line off ebay and love having super fast internet wherever I am.

I'm looking on eBay for an unlimited line, I may do this too.

I only see a couple of auctions that say they are selling a phone line with unlimited data, but it says it is including a phone number/phone minutes. They say you can use your own number or get a new number. Obviously for iPad we don't need a number. Is this correct?
If you could link me to a correct auction or yours as an example, I'd appreciate it. Either replying here or a private message. Thanks!

Something like this is what you should be looking for. You are basically taking over someone elses plan, which will have have the unlimited data, a voice plan, and possibly a messaging plan. after you win the auction, the seller will call verizon and give them your name and let them know you will taking over the contract (assumption of liability or AOL). then, you call in and let them know what phone number you will be taking over. they will check that your name has been preapproved to take over the account and run a credit check. from there, you will give some basic info and the account is yours. you can then change the number and plan details as you wish.

for the ipad, you don't need a phone number. what you do need is an activated micro sim that has the wireless unlimited data plan associated with it to put in the ipad.

I thought about it.

I have my iPad with me most places I go. I also have my iPhone with me though. Could just get a tether plan on iPhone if needed.

I've thought about doing this but there are a couple of issues with it. 1) It's kind of a hassle to have to enable wifi tethering on your phone every time you want to check something on your iPad. And 2) The battery on your iPhone will deplete much quicker than it would otherwise (unless it's plugged in, which again is not very convenient).

The solution is that AT&T and Verizon should let us split the data that we use on our phones between devices. That way you could have a 3GB shared data plan between an iPhone and an iPad.

But nooooooo. They want us to pay for two separate, expensive plans so they can get more money out of us.

If you're checking something quick, just do it on your iPhone. I love having tethering on my iPhone for my MBP, but in reality, 95% of the time, I just do it on the phone.

I did the opposite. I turned in my LTE model for a wifi one. I use my phone for tethering so I didn't need the LTE on the ipad :)

That's what I'm going to do, but get a Verizon one for the GPS and global SIM capability.

I actually went in the other direction and returned my AT&T version for a Wi-FI tablet. I downloaded and installed Skype. I can phone anywhere in the world for 8 cents per minute. Bye Bye iPhone and AT&T.

what if there is no wifi access?

The only reason I want the LTE version is for gps. Otherwise anywhere on the go I am I would rather use my iPhone on me. I don't want to bring the iPad everywhere...

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Looking at completed listings, $250 seems to be the average selling price. Sounds like a good deal to have unlimited data on the new iPad. I'll just have to be a little patient for one to come around at that price.

One last question, did you have to specify anything special to verizon in order to make sure you were getting lte with the sim card on the new ipad? Or did you just have to make sure lte was turned on in the iPad settings?

Edit: do you happen to have an idea as to why this listing says it CAN'T work on an iPad? It's a completed listing.

After I purchased the line from ebay, i had to look around for an LTE phone in order to get the SIM card and upgrade the line to 4G LTE. I ended up purchasing a Pantech Breakout from ebay, which is probably the cheapest LTE phone you can get. Then, I went to the Verizon store, had them give me a SIM card, and activate the phone. From there, I cut down the SIM card using the stock micro SIM from the ipad as a template and switched the newly cut SIM with the stock micro SIM. At last, I have unlimited data on my iPad.

Note 1: Since I still have to pay for the voice + data, I made sure to enable call forwarding from the verizon number onto my ATT iPhone 4S.

Note 2: Instead of having to purchase an LTE phone like I did, I've heard that some people were successful with buying a micro SIM from ebay, calling verizon, and haven't them activate just the micro SIM without the phone. I found all of this out after I had already purchased the phone.

Ah ok, that makes sense then. Some of the completed listings say that the unlimited data plan will NOT work with an ipad, like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Verizon-Unl...aultDomain_0&hash=item1c2580a44b#ht_712wt_948

So I guess that's basically all of them, in need of doing one of your two examples that you gave in your last post. Ok something to think about, a little inconvenient but worth it if it works.

So since it included voice and data, how much is your bill? Is it $29.99 plus taxes, fees? Did you have to sign up for a voice plan?

Thanks again for all of the detailed info, that should be my last question lol, much appreciated.

yah i wouldn't purchase from that auction simply because the ad is such a mess and so confusing. i read it twice and still don't understand it. Here's a good one:

I've never been a Verizon customer until now, so i had to create an individual plan. the cheapest voice plan is 39.99 and unlimited data is 29.99. with my 20% discount, i expect the bill to be in the low 50's. if you can get on a family plan, it will be much cheaper: 9.99 for the extra line and 29.99 for data. either way, it's still going to be cheaper than if you paid for the current data options:

Alright finally got a full understanding of it. Thanks again, can't wait to be streaming unlimited and unthrottled.

I would like to return my WiFi only model for the LTE but I can't. I simply will not allow ATT (or Verizon) to get any more of my money when I have already paid for data I don't use on my iPhone.
Yes, I am cutting off the proverbial nose to spite my face but this is now a matter of principal.
For those of you who JB - good for you, but again I can't do that in good conscience. Hopefully I'll get over that soon.
For those of you who think that ATT (or any other cell company) will move to a more customer oreinted data plan in the future I've just got to say - YOU'RE DREAMING. ATT and Verizon make millions off of other people's inovations (Apple, Android, etc) and other people's unchecked desire (that would be you, the customer). They have no incentive to change their model.
There are only two ways customers will get unlimited, cheap, fast data: the government steps in and makes it a national priority for nationwide broadband wireless access or a new company steps in with new technology.
Even with new technology one would have to think the cellualr companies would either buy up the upstart and then judiously dole out the new tech while keeping the price artifically inflated (i.e., recording companies and CDs) or if the said new company has some backbone and goes it alone then the big boys will do whatever they can to crush it.
Anyway, I'll go WiFi for now and intentially cripple my wonderful new device. :(

LOL. I love all the hype of people acting like VOIP is the newest and greatest thing and will magically replace their phone company. People are so clueless.

I don't use a landline anymore. Ive been using VoIP for my household phone for several years now. I don't really see the issue

Why? It's perfectly legal.

It can replace a home phone, but not a cell phone, as it needs internet connectivity. It will work over mobile data just fine, which is great for additional minutes and international calling, but you still have to buy the 450 minute plan on either carrier just to have the phone in the first place.

It's not the JB, it's the tethering of the iPad to the iPhone. I don't know the exact legal stance on that issue, but I know that is not the intent of ATT. Why do I care about ATT? I don't but I have to be true to me.

It's breach of a contract, not a criminal offense. They can terminate your account for doing it, but they can't put you in jail. In reality, on the tiered plans, they just don't care. I tether now and again, and usually pull a crapload of data (100MB+), and I have yet to hear a peep from them.

I got the 32GB WiFi iPad and am keeping it. I don't really have a need for it. Since I mainly use non-Internet requiring apps when I'm outside of a Wi-Fi range, I do not see the need for it. If I find I will need Internet I'll probably just get a MiFi device that can serve as a hotspot for multiple devices.

On a data limited plan they WANT you to go over your limit so they can Nickel and Dime you to death. They should be giving away the Tether but then their CS reps will have a bitch of a time from all the calls bitching how they went over their data limit.
