I'm not here to bash the size of the SE but I'm quite happy with the size of the 6.

I don't understand people who say that they can't reach the top of the screen on the iPhone 6?

When I had an iPhone 5 and switched to the 6, I initially hated the extra screen size, however, over my time of using the 6, I have come to learn to actually hold the device differently!

Those who say they can't reach the top of the screen with their thumb (right thumb when device is held in the right hand),are obviously holding the phone with the bottom of the phone, resting on the little finger - and yes, in this position, you can't reach the top of the screen.

However, I have taught myself to hold the phone like this: hold the phone and have ALL 4 fingers on the back. The right bottom corner of the phone, rests at the "9 O Clock" position in the fleshy part of your palm. That leaves your thumb, plenty of space to EASILY reach up to the top of screen.

I love the 4" size myself and still have my 5S. I just don't see why I'd spend more money to get less. Yes you sell the 6S and get a cheaper phone but when you sell the phone, you're effectively making a loss. I know you're trying to justify.

This is true. I need to justify more. I don't need a Note 5, 6S+, and an SE. All of which I'm keeping. I just wish I
could find my 6s+. I've misplaced it.

My sister was all set to buy the SE because her iphone 4 is on its last legs. but she got disappointed when she found out that it was the same design as the 5s.the only way to tell you got a new phone is by buying the Rose Gold.she wanted something different like a brand new design or at least something similar to the 6s. So she's waiting to see if Apple wil offer a 4 inch iPhone 7. If not she will just buy the 4.7 version even though she hates the size.
I think she's being silly about this I think the 5s design is beautiful. and I don't even know if her iPhone 4 will last till September.
So a person who is still using a phone released 6 years ago refuses to buy a phone released two months ago because it looks like a phone released 3 years ago?

Priorities. :/

I can reach the top corner of my 5.7" Moto X if I hold my device differently. The problem is that I can't grip the phone when I do that. It rests on my fingers and my thumb stretches to the corner, but I have to be extremely careful because someone bumping into me could easily knock it right out of my hand.

I can grip my iPhone SE with my fingers wrapped around the side and still reach the top left corner without having to worry about a slight nudge knocking the phone out of my hand.

as Channan points out, many cant reach the top most part of the screen easily . In fact, the screen is longer than my thumb.

So depending on where i want to grip the phone, I can reach that radius. But almost impossible to reach all 4 quadrants from one grip position while securely holding my phone. It's impossible.

Honestly, it all comes down to your own priorities.
I've been using 3 iPhones during the last few years.
I'm a freelancer and since my traffic changes a lot, my phone requirements do as well.
I've been using the iPhone 6 plus for more than a year, because I had quite a lot of commute time for an assignment that was better reachable by public transport. As I travelled by train, the reachability issue of the plus version, wasn't really an issue for me, where the battery autonomy played a substantial role.
Nowadays, my commute is different, where I have to use my car. You can't hardly use a Plus in a traffic jam, so I decided to get a 6s.
It's way better reachable with one hand, but the battery autonomy sucks big time. That's why I seriously consider to buy a SE. Too bad the 6s' battery is this bad. They should definitely improve this when they launch the iPhone 7.

Yeah, that's like a lesson in how to drop your phone...

Now obviously in the 6S, you dont actually need this grip, since you can double tap home button to "bring down" the items displayed at top for the screen.

But in general I find the 6/6S is not a one-hander and is awkward to take out of your pocket and take a picture. Much more natural in the size of the 5S and SE.

But....the real issue with SE is the cheapo screen. Lower contrast than what people are used to these days. So there is squinting to be done at times...

The thing which is really bugging me now (after many months) is how my thumb can't reach the rightmost keys 100% of the time with a casual grip of the phone.

Even after nearly 9 months of ownership...really hope Apple commits in a yearly 4" model again.

The 4.7" experiment hasn't completely worked for me, sad to say.
On the contrary, 4.7"-5" is the correct standard size for a smartphone. I've had a Samsung S4 like 2-3 years ago that was 5" screen and still manageable as a one hander. Ditto for Galaxy Alpha at 4.7" screen. But Samsung has thinner bezels and they flatten the shape of the home button to make the device more compact.

Problem is Apple is lagging behind the times with giant bezel and giant round home button. Which is making the 6S far bigger than it needs to be - and the 6S plus comically large.

Its is very clear that Apple aim to claw back the lost ground with the next design where the screen is OLED and the "home" button is a virtual one.

I would skip the 6S and wait until they launch the proper phones. Those will be good. These are basically outdated designs that dont suit the age in which we all expect a "phablet" sized screen. In the meantime the SE has some deficiencies but at least they are not robbing you with the price. Better value there...
