My sister was all set to buy the SE because her iphone 4 is on its last legs. but she got disappointed when she found out that it was the same design as the 5s.the only way to tell you got a new phone is by buying the Rose Gold.she wanted something different like a brand new design or at least something similar to the 6s. So she's waiting to see if Apple wil offer a 4 inch iPhone 7. If not she will just buy the 4.7 version even though she hates the size.
I think she's being silly about this I think the 5s design is beautiful. and I don't even know if her iPhone 4 will last till September.
Yikes, I don't get any logic in her reasoning at all. If she hates the size why would she get the 4.7 inch iPhone just to show off that it's new? Nobody cares. The current 6s design and the rumored 7 design are now at least two years old. People don't go looking at each other's iPhones and squee over the newness of them that often anymore, regardless. She's cheating herself out of a fabulous value for her money and a really capable iPhone that for me, who does like the size of it, is a pleasure to use.

There are many intelligent, logical reasons a person might choose to get an IPhone 6 or 6s over an SE. I hope at least some of them can be factors in her decision, so that she will have a better chance of being pleased with her choice.

I hope the 4.7" size won't limit how she uses the phone.

I ordered a ip5 and am eager to try the 4" size when it gets here. My next phone could well be a 4" model provided Apple updates it in 2017.

iPhone 5S / SE is probably the best design so far.

really hope the SE gets updated in 2017 again or even better...that Apple adds the 4" model back to their yearly production cycle with the missing extras added back like the FFC upgrade, etc (with the attendant price increase).

It makes sense from a financial POV. user POV, and market POV.

I'd like them to keep the SE updated every 2 years, and for there to be a 4 inch model with the flagship model each year. If not then, just yearly updates for the SE would be AMAZING.

I am considering an SE something fierce (debating a trade in) of my 6s, but I'll have to get the iPad situation sorted first. Just not happy with the battery life 9 hours 30 minutes ( video, some typing, emails and light safari) and I be very happy not paying so much for a phone going forward too.

Wait...you're not happy with a thin, light, portable device that does all the things you could ever possibly have imagined, but only does it for 9 hours and 30 minutes at a time without being recharged??

My, how far we've come with our expectations in such a short period of time.....:)

Heheh. I am not a power user. The 5SE would have been the perfect fit for me - so I am smarting that I couldn't wait, really not happy about is the amount of money I paid for it. I'm charging this a lot more frequently than any other iPhone too. And for less writing and casual surfing, no streaming it's kind of ridiculous. If I didn't keep this on low power mode I suspect I'd get 1/3rd less of that battery life because it drains fast (no background app refresh, push mail etc. are on.)

What's a 5SE?! By the way, if you've already got the 6S then switching to the SE is waste of money in my honest opinion.

Well the 6s was a massive waste of money imo, so it's all relative. :p
Yes ok, it probably was for you, but you've already got it now. It's like spending more money to get almost the same thing again, in fact a bit less than what you've already got. I know ultimately its your choice. Just my opinion.

To Kazmac: It's true...no point to buying the SE if you already have the 6s unless you absolutely can't stomach the 6s.

Better to hold and wait to see if Apple updates the SE in 2017 or adds the 4" back to the regular lineup.

I kinda agree. Then again, if you just want the same phone with a few less features, but with better battery life and are willing to fork out the money, that's all you.

From my selfish point of view, if more people switch from the 6 block of phones to the SE, maybe Apple will get the idea that people want 4" models again and produce more.

TL;DR - If you have the money and want it, go for it. It's all about preference anyway.

Couldn't be bothered reading all of the comments, but anyone here switched from a 5s to the SE? Think it was worth the upgrade? Or best to stick with the 5s for another year?
Me.

I think so. I never found my 5s to under serve me, yet the se feels noticeably faster on every app launch.

Battery life is a bit better as well. I'm happy with the spend.

I reluctantly upgraded to the 6s last year, I too loved the 5s and didn't like the bigger size. I'm thinking of swapping to an SE. I can sell it for the cost of an SE, so effectively a straight swap and brand new phone having had 6s for 9 months so extra warranty. (trying to justify :) :) :) )

Didn't read the whole thread but my thoughts on the iPhone SE is that it's Apple testing the waters for the smaller form factor like Samsung did when they released the first Note phone.

The SE is basically a Frankenstein phone with new and old parts thrown in.. Touch ID is from the original 6 not the 6S, so a bit slower, older selfie cam (surprised they did that with how big selfie photos are these days) still 16GB memory ..with 4K recording it's time for a memory bump to at least 32GB for entry level iPhones. Still same old non 720P screen on SE ..all in all I believe Apple is testing the waters with the SE on this go around, proof by old parts mixed in with new.

I love the 4" size myself and still have my 5S. I just don't see why I'd spend more money to get less. Yes you sell the 6S and get a cheaper phone but when you sell the phone, you're effectively making a loss. I know you're trying to justify.

I've wasted a lot of money on bad decisions in the last 8 months two of them being Apple products (didn't need the 27" iMac after all and would have preferred the SE), so I hear you. I have to hold out and get my moneys worth.

That's what I am doing. Just a bit surprised I get about 6 hours and 30 minutes usage from light web surfing, watching videos, listening to music and light writing in notes and calendar. The low power mode gives me an extra 3 hours hence the 9 hours 47 minutes, which I am grateful for, but I'd like to be able to charge every 3 days rather than every 2 days, first world problems I know. But I just do not feel like I am getting my money's worth with the 6s. My next phone will be an SE. For a more expensive iDevice, I'll get iPad(s).

jarred125, I am very interested in how you like the SE. I have the 6s and 6 before that and the 5/5s. Really liked the size of the 5.

I am just worried that after using the larger screen I might find the SE too small.

I promised you a follow up after I received my SE. It arrived yesterday and I have been using it for about 18 hours now ... I am already putting my 6S up for sale. The phone is blazing fast (feels faster than my 6S but I doubt that is the case), battery life has been fantastic so far, I put it on the charger while it did a restore from iCloud backup and once done I removed it. I used it quite a bit last night and by the end of the night it was at 81%, roughly 5 hours of use.

The size is perfect, I do not miss the 3D touch stuff and TouchID is not at all slow (in fact I actually prefer this version of TouchID as it isn't unlocking the device before I can think about it). I have to say this is the phone for me. :)

I could've gotten an se but on the day they launched it I got a nice iPhone 6s and am very pleased with it after using an iPhone 5s for over two years. I got tired of the design they used. Someone on eBay was selling se iPhones for $50 less than apple on the day it was released also. Why do people insist on getting the big iPhone 6s plus and then complain and get one that's too small like a 4" iPhone?

Hows the battery life on it? If I keep my 5s away from 3g I can get 6 hours usage (facebook, snapchat etc) before it dies. Only thing holding me back is lack of reviews for the battery life
My SE ends the day at 45-50% battery with maybe 6 hrs usage/10 hours standby. LTE all day, no wifi or 3G. Best battery life I've ever had on an iPhone by far.

Agree that the 6s is only average with battery life (at best).

I run my 6s in low-power exclusively to get to the rated 10 hr battery life.

I just don't understand how the 6S chews through so much battery life compared to the SE with exactly the similar internals. The only difference is the screen being .7" larger... It's beyond me how only that much bigger screen makes such a huge difference.

Yup, Low power mode is constantly on for me too.

More pixels to push maybe? I don't know.

Yes more pixels to push but really I refuse to believe that's the only reason for such a difference in the battery life. Something else is going on here. Maybe the processor architecture is different?!

I am not the person to objectively discuss that, I know some tech, but next to nothing about these phones. Great to hear the SE's battery life is so awesome. When my finances rebound I'll just nab one and sell the 6s.
