I like the idea of removing the headphone jack too.

As for the home button, you can still have a physical home button and have it water resistant. Look at samsungs s7.

You can still have a headphone jack and have it water resistant as well. Also available on the Samsung S7.

May I ask why it is that you like the idea of removing the headphone jack? You'd still be able to use your phone the same if Apple kept it, whereas those who use the headphone port on a daily basis would have to change how they use their device.

What's more water resistant? A hole into the device or no hole? Of course the jack can be somewhat water sealed (Samsung literally just slopped glue all over it) But one less area that can fail will always be better. Samsungs jack can still fail from water, no jack is 100% water proof. (Not talking about other points of failure, talking the jack only)

Coming from someone who currently uses the headphone jack, I like the coming change to remove it. It won't hinder my ability to listen to music. Not even slightly. Because I will use either the free Lightning EarPods, or the more than likely small adapter. And I will eventually get proper over ear Lightning headphones.

Very true, I'm hoping if Apple does remove the headphone jack that it gets a better water resistant rating.

I use the headphone jack fairly often but my headphones have a replaceable cable so I'm assuming I could just replace the cable and be fine.

I'm curious how I can charge while listening to music, this is something I do in my car frequently while using the headphone jack to the auxiliary input.

Maybe it is just me but I still have the 6+ from the beginning and I still enjoy the design and features of the phone. The battery still works fine and it serves my needs. The only concern is my silent switch has been acting weird (it will be on silent and the notification goes back and forth from time to time). Other than that, I need some serious upgrades and design changes to sway my decision.

The newest samsung edge version looks amazing, but from the bad experience I had with the s3 years ago I am not comfortable going back to them.

I bought the iPhone 6s as soon as I heard about iPhone 7

No way I want something that steals away my head phone jack & possibly a different charging cable
even though I mostly use Bluetooth I'm not giving up the head phone jack

Samsung added rubber seals to their ports that will keep water out up to five feet and Apple will likely use the same methods. Once the phone is in past five feet of water, it will leak into all holes, regardless if there's one point of entry or three.

Of course there's rubber seals. But the video also shows what I said. They poured glue all over the back of the headphone jack to seal it.

Apple has patents for water proofing their speaker, which I'm sure will get used. Removing the jack all together plus removing the whole physical portion of the home button increases the odds of survival in water. Because it's two less major failure points.

Declining the 2017-2019 iPhones if Apple decides to go all-glass and my intuition tells me they will since Jony Ive wants to use one sheet of glass. Don't want a Samsung Galaxy iPhone S7s. No thanks, Jony.

Prefer soft matte plastic like the rears of Moto G and E, but matte, metal finish over glass any day for me. Glass is almost as bad as glossy plastic. Usually the tock is better year for me to upgrade. Perhaps 2016 will become the exception.

The 2016 iPhone will be a bigger update than most people will realize...

+ Water resistance
+ Wireless charging
+ Capacitive home button
+ Dual camera setup for the bigger models
+ 32 GB as base model
+ Removal of headphone jack
+ Stereo speaker
+ Space black and deep blue color options

^ Those aren't minor updates. The removal of the physical home button is already big enough for me. These threads about a damaged home button, their 16gb is filled up, or their iPhone is damaged by water will now come from people with older iPhones before the 7. The iPhone 7 will make every previous iPhone including the 6s and SE feel quite outdated.

I hope that I can wait until 2017 or 2018. iPhones are extremely expensive products that I like to use as long as possible.
It's a tough call. I am pretty sure I will update, but want to hear the keynote to see what the deal really is. I have a feeling Apple has some surprises; but not what anybody thinks. While there is a lot of information on the MR news forum there also is speculation on a model by model basis. It's gonna be interesting.

Some of you guys are convinced that this capacitive home button is confirmed for this year. That rumor is up in the air and one of the more iffy ones imo...just don't be surprised if there isn't one.

I'm still quite satisfied with my 6. Nothing about the 6s tempted me to upgrade, and so far nothing I'm hearing about the 7 is a must have feature. But as a sensible human being, I of course will wait until the phone actually debuts to make a decision, rather than make up my mind based on speculation.
I'm doing exactly the same. My 6 is perfect other than some battery related issues that has started recently.

The iPhone 7 could be the biggest update since going from the original iPhone in 2007 to the iPhone 4 in 2010. With iPhone 4, we got a new design thanks to some Gizmodo guy leaking it online, FaceTime, Retina Display (326 ppi), multi-task bar, better camera, etc.

Late 2012 - Nexus 4 introduced Qii charging which was wireless. Something introduced before that with the Palm Pre thanks to Matias Duarte.

Early 2013 - Sony introduced waterproofing on flagships for the masses.

Early 2014 - HTC introduced to us the M8's dual camera setup.

Some of these features have been found on Android for 2-5 years now. These aren't big updates for smartphones in general especially for Android phones which had them for years but they are big updates for the iPhone series. Removing headphone jack and physical home button hasn't happened before either. Having 32gb as a base model and discounting it to $100 hasn't happened either.

Unless the 10th anniversary is truly special or Apple has some big secrets they haven't leaked yet, I don't know how much next year's iPhone will be a big of jump than this year's? OLED? Samsung. Bezel-less? Check Sharp Aquos Crystal and see how comfortable that is to hold without accidental touches with the apps close to the sides. Glass exterior? If it is made in one sheet of glass and one side breaks, do we have to replace the entire body?

The iPhone 7 is the one worth getting while next year's iPhone may not be the one worth waiting for. A Samsung Galaxy iPhone S7s is my gut feeling for next year's "special" 10th anniversary iPhone.

I don't get this reasoning. Removing the jack will still leave the phone with another hole with exposed electrical contacts. If the technology is there to waterproof one, surely waterproofing another is trivial.

Apple sandbagging anything (to keep people "titillated" for the 10 yr) for more than a year, will burn them like when they sandbagged the release of the larger phones. Samsung sold a lot of larger phones while apple regurgitated a same smaller design, to "keep up" with their own yearly phone cycle. I left Apple for 2 to 3 years for Samsung's (and HTCs) larger phones while apple kept dragging their feet on a larger phone because "nobody wants a larger phone" - until "everybody wants a larger phone". 3 years too late.

Apple is never about first, they are about best. And when they implement a feature on a flagship its there to stay; which is why they are big updates they are meaningful updates. Sd card, ir blaster, crummy fingerprint readers etc tell the story on the android side.

I'll be sticking with my 6S, as I have been on the "S" cycle since the 3GS. The 6S continues to be plenty powerful enough for me. I'll upgrade to whatever the 2017 iPhone ends up being.

Threads like this puzzle me. The OP is almost trying to sell his case that you should not buy the 7 and wait on the 8.

I think people should do as they wish and buy what they want. If their finances allow and even if they do not people need to make their own choices. I am betting the 7 will be a good upgrade to me but that is just me.
