I have had the XS Max for 2 weeks the first time and going on two weeks with the new one. While the display looks nice, to say that it is leaps and bounds better in my eyes view is not accurate. The LCD on the iPhone 8+ is much more comfy to my eyes. I know the XR will not be the same as the 8+ but honestly $799 128gb vs $1249 256gb (which is overkill) not to mention tax and Apple Care + being $50 cheaper. Yeah that XR display is going to have to be mighty underwhelming at this point.
Makes perfect sense. One might say the XR is a sight for XS Max sore eyes.

This is not a popular opinion.. but I agree with you. Many openly state, as a blanket statement, that OLED is better than LCD.

For those that are heavy consumers of video content OLED is likely preferable. However, for those that watch video on a phone more casually, OLED and it’s other characteristics may not be preferable.

I've owned iPhones since 2011. I've never had a desire to watch a movie on one. I realize others do, and I can understand their wanting an OLED screen. For me, though, the decision to go with the XR is getting more attractive every day.

And even then, watching a movie on a screen like the XR's still looks great. People are acting like the difference will be as drastic as the iPhone 3 screen compared with the iPhone 4.

You're right. Really, when I'm watching a movie, I'm more into the story than I am the definition of the screen. I don't mean the screen doesn't matter, if it's poor it's distraction, but there comes a point when the screen becomes a non-issue. I really think Apple's 326 ppi LCD reaches that point for me.

This thread, summarized:

- User 1: This screen is good enough.

- User 2: No, it's not.

- User 3: But it is for me.

- User 4: No it isn't.

- User 5: It's perfect.

- User 6: I think it is adequate.

- User 7: This is literally the worst thing in the history of the world ever.

- User 8: no it's not.

(repeat infinitely)

I think we should agree to disagree and move on.

I thought the OLED was supposed to be easier on the eyes? I’ve had an XS for a little over 2 weeks now, and it’s definitely easier on my eyes. I keep the brightness pretty low on all my screens though. I have bad sinus pressure in my face 24/7 and I can’t tolerate super brightness.

Exactly. It's still going to look great, I don't think anyone will look at it and not think it's a good screen.

Why don't we just wait for this phone to actually release before forming full opinions? lol.

There was this report:
Researchers from Tsing-Hua University have found that Apple’s latest iPhone XS, XS Max’s OLED display this year are healthier for your eyes than the LCD-based displays found in previous iPhone models. The study compared two metrics between an iPhone 7 with an LCD display and the latest iPhone XS Max with 6.5-inch OLED display.

I recently purchased this device After having an s8 with a 1440p display and have Not noticed a difference. Even with the s8 at QHD+ the iPhone still feels the same at any distance greater than a foot

I seriously cannot understand. 720p is like 10 years old tech. How do you guys turn your mindset to accept it?

Question?

Best iPhone display ever is what?

iPhone XS Max
iPhone XS
iPhone X
iPhone 8 Plus
iPhone 7 Plus
iPhone 6s Plus
iPhone 6 Plus

Which of these phones have the best display on an iPhone?

Because $1,000 to some feels like $20 to others .

Oh and it's actually a nice screen since it's such a small display .

Hallelujah!!! Someone gets “it”. How can someone this or that, but... they accept an iPad Pro and 12.9” screen with “only” 264 PPI.

Idk about you, but to me 6.1” at 326 PPI compared to 12.9” at 264 PPI would make it more “crisp”.

It is?

Wow. Never knew. And I've owned an iPhone since 2011.

I guess when you don't care about things like that you don't bother to ask questions.

I mean, I use my phone as a phone. So why would I care?

As with audio... some are "audiophiles" and some just listen to music without really caring about pristine sound
I don't need a $200 bottle of wine, the $8 bottle does just fine by me
There are those (I am one) who really can't discern a whole lot of difference in screens
I just look at it and use it and don't stress over how crisp my text messages look
Same with TVs
I don't need some 4K TV with super terrific Dolby mega surround sound
I just need to see the picture and hear the sound
I'm just an average guy

I have a X but have no doubt I would be fine with a XR or really any display

How about $200 bottle of wine with $8 wine quality?

I seriously cannot understand. Name one portable device that had such a screen ten years ago.
