The XR is actually growing on me. I do like that it has a LCD screen and that it has a lower resolution but yet has the same A12 as the XS and XS Max. Would it have been better if it was 1080p? Sure, but in daily use I am not noticing any major differences. I’ve used a 7 Plus and a XS recently for comparison. I still think this phone (and all of the current Apple lineup) is overpriced by $100.

Redmi is like the cheapest phone now and it still has a 1440p screen. Imagine how much $ Apple can make from each XR by offering you a 10 years old tech screen.

No it doesn’t. The Redmi S2 and Redmi 6 both have 720x1440 displays. This is not 1440p - it’s the 720p you hate so much.

I agree. I'm on the fence about getting an Xr as it might be the "hold me over" device until I leave Apple unless they get their act together fairly quickly. I'm not sure if 720p is a deal breaker as much as the price.

After using the 8+ and picking up the XR the difference in resolution is as dramatic as the specs imply.

I’m impressed at the engineering that went into it and I think the average consumer will love it but the resolution and lack of 3D Touch ruin the experience for me. It’s like taking two steps back just for the sake of a new design.

You’re going up against a staggering majority consensus (including leading tech enthusiasts) saying that it’s not even remotely dramatic. But if it bothers you that much, go up to the XS. It’s a good phone too. I doubt next year’s LCD phone will be any different, in fact they’ll probably just keep selling the XR.

The XR almost looks blurry, text looks undeniably fuzzy to my eyes. I wanted to like the XR but to me it’s a significant downgrade. I’d only recommend it to those coming from a 326ppi phone. I commend them for the color calibration and contrast improvements though.

Unfortunately I’m going to have to wait until they get rid of pulse-width modulation flickering on the OLED models until I can upgrade again. (I literally am unable to use the XS due to the flickering.)

Well I’m beating a dead horse here, but on MacBook Pros and iPads the text is even fuzzier. But you said you’re more of a phone person, so maybe those screens are more important to you.

Yup, I notice differences in the displays even some professionals don’t pickup without measurements. (For example, I noticed the contrast and black level on the 8 Plus display were inferior to the 7 Plus display which measurements from Notebookcheck support.)

The difference on the MacBook Pro and iPad is that the displays are larger with higher resolutions so PPI doesn’t have to be as dense as it does on a phone. At some point there are diminishing returns but that point is definitely not at 326ppi.
[doublepost=1547529779][/doublepost]I’m glad so many people enjoy the XR and as I said anybody coming from a 326ppi iPhone will be happy. But on second impression I think the 828p resolution makes the display look terrible to my eyes compared to the 8+, like it’s running at a lower resolution than it should be.

To be honest the XR is my least favorite iPhone, ever. I’m impressed at the engineering that went into it and I think the average consumer will love it but the resolution and lack of 3D Touch ruin the experience for me. It’s like taking two steps back just for the sake of a new design.
I had the exact same expierence, switched to the iPhone XR and came running right back to the beautiful space gray 8+.

The 8+ looks significantly sharper. I figured I’d trust Apple that the specs don’t tell the whole story and that they were able to work some magic into the XR, but the 8+ has over 500,000 more pixels than the XR packed into a 5.5” display — and it’s a noticeable difference.

Yup and all the apple worshippers on reddit downvote me for saying the XR display is bad for the price point.

Also I think the XR feels noticeably cheaper compared to the 8/8+...idk why

That’s the opposite of what Notebookcheck.net concluded: “Verdict:.......The lower resolution LCD panel is a red herring in our opinion. It does not use PWM to regulate display brightness like the XS-series do, which may cause some people to suffer from eye strain and headaches. Moreover, its lower resolution improves battery life massively while not sacrificing image quality........The price difference between the XR and the iPhone XS is huge. We also see no tangible disadvantages that would prevent us from recommending it over its more expensive siblings.........Overall, the iPhone XR is better value for money than either the iPhone XS or the XS Max.

Imagine how much car manufacturers can make by offering you wheels, something that has been invented ages ago.
This man...

Wish nobody bought that iPhone XR. I just stopped buying iPhones until Apple wakes up, and imo everyone should do the same. Then, we would see what customers are capable of.

Yes it’s a shame that you have a choice NOT to buy the Xr. Now go enjoy your blu phone.

I was making an assertion that Apple in no shape or form should sale a display under 1080p...its not right for a company of their stature especially if the price does not fit the bill. For the price, its not worth going back into history for a 720p display(thats stone age in the cellphone world, there are quadHD android devices that are cheaper than the iphone XR)...thanks. If you love it...enjoy but you will surely miss FullHD.

Heck a LG G7 is under $400 currently....this is one of the reasons no one wants that XR. You guys know the phone I use...check my sig.....

Well too bad Apple did release a POS “720p” phone. So you can choose not to buy it or buy it. I assume you will not buy it. So thanks and have a nice day.

No need to assume...what i choose to buy electronic-wise minus a couple more monitors and unimportant gadgets is typically on my sig unless I can't fit it due to signature limitations....you have a wonderful and amazing super rest of your DAY.

I wouldn't really go off what notebookcheck.net claims for any of this. They aren't a reliable source.
They actually claim there that the XR display is sharper than the XS and XS Max, but their sub pixel math is juvenile as well as inaccurate overall to arrive at their much subtracted PPI conclusion.
Most don't fully grasp pentile diamond arrangement layouts. Esp. one on the iPX and up which is denser than the Galaxy phones even: https://www.oled-info.com/pentile

Under close scrutiny of the displays, the opposite has been proven visually.
One doesn't even need to look at some guesses on angles and math that could make your head spin: (chleuasme's post): https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...t-mean-anything.2149142/page-10#post-26714684

Furthermore...how is HDR in a display, superior contrast, an extra gig of RAM, a telephoto lens and higher IP water rating not a tangible benefit to anyone? They completely omit those from the mix. I don't have an issue with any opinion as to what phone is the best value for some, but "no tangible disadvantages" is quite an erroneous statement.

Very honest comments
Not all steaks are the same quality. Just because it’s not filet mignon doesn’t mean it sucks. ‍♂️

Most of what that guy said outside of the lower screen resolution has been said from android fanboys about Apple for years

There's a really good Italian restaurant I sometimes go to with family when I visit. One of them saw the owner shopping at Sams Club, turns out the chicken fingers the restaurant serves are the same ones you can buy in bulk from the store. I thought to myself I had their chicken and it was quite good, better than the frozen ones I put in the oven. The point is if you have the proper equipment and skills you can tune cheap materials into a really good product people will like, just like the culinary arts from a chef. I think the Xr is a good phone, but at 750 it might not be a good deal for some who would consider an Android product.

I agree with some of your points.

It reminds me of people who use products made in china and makes posts like "I don't want that china crap". lol

On occasion, I’ve considered switching to Android because I think all of the current iPhones are overpriced, and the XS and Max, with having to jump to 256GB if 64GB isn’t enough, are even more so than the XR. Still, the integratedness of Apple devices keeps me here. Plus, I don’t upgrade often (4S in 2011, 6s in 2015, and XR in 2018), so that takes some of the sting out of the prices.

Having said that, what mid-priced Androids, say a couple hundred dollars cheaper, would you consider being on par with the XR?
